I started journaling when I was 12 and my sole reason was to keep every memories I have with my first unrequited love, and I keep doing that until 16, but as I get matured, I started to lose motivation since I already gave up to that person. That's the turning point for me to ask why I was journaling in the first place. And then BuJo became popular, it put so much pressure on me and my diary because Bujo introduces something and concepts that I wasn't really doing. I became obsessed on buying stuffs such as pens, washis and such that I need for Journaling because I was trying to be 'aesthetic' as I can be in my diary yet when I have those I don't really think of what should I use them for. That moment I learned that I don't really need to be on the trend to do what I love in the first place, writing memories. So now I pretty much contented for what I have (a nice gel pen and a fine notebook) and I am not pressuring myself to keep up with days updating it especially if I don't really feel like. I also stop comparing my work to others because I know that my diary or journal is unique and that it was the reflection of what I am as a person.

I'm grateful that after 50+ years of journaling (I've been keeping a journal since I was 11), I have finally relaxed all that "should-ing" on myself. When there are gaps, I start to feel edgy, but not because I think I "should" be journaling, or I think my pages "should" look a certain way, but because without the emotional, spiritual, and creative act of journaling, I get clogged up internally. I don't keep my thoughts and feelings untangled unless I'm journaling. So THAT'S why I restart after missing it for a few days or a few weeks. And I'm so happy that I already do follow several people. That way I'm being inspired, not trying to copy. This video is so useful! Thank you! (And "create more than you consume" is GENIUS.)

I started journaling when I was in third grade so I guess it became a habit and my only friend. I lost 28 years worth of journals when my storage unit was auctioned off. I have a horrible memory so it was my way of safeguarding. It’s all gone now. I feel like my life was thrown away. I am starting to miss it a lot after four years , so I guess that’s good. Your suggestion to reset my expectations really resonated with me - thank you 💜

Wow this video is gold. I certainly fall into the comparison trap thinking my pages are not good enough but I loved the reminder that no journal should look the same. Each journal is unique and just right because it is our creation. Thanks Kelsey for such beautiful video.

i really liked this vidoe because I think it's really relevant. I haven't done any dedicated journal flip throughs on my channel because they're for me and no one else. I have shared my journals and certain pages of them but not sure if I'll ever really feel comfortable doing dedicated flip throughs, and that's okay! thanks for this video :) watched it as I planned out my next week in my passion planner!

After 10+ years of journaling I am not really keeping the aestetic. I just glue random things in notebook. Hovewer the real pressure is in writing, because I like to note some specific details that can be not so important in perspective)

What notebooks are you using currently? When I feel stressed about journaling, I go back to basic pen and paper, bullet points, and then MAYBE go back and add washi, stickers, and doodles.

I primarily use the moleskine cahier XL journal inserts in my Documented Journey cover. I also use a Growth Roots Co Growth Book ☺️

I write every morning with my morning cup of coffee. It is part of my morning ritual. My problem is that eventually I get tired of the journal, and I move on to a new notebook before my current one is finished. I don't know why that keeps happening to me. I have only finished 1 journal in my entire life cover to cover. I start a new journal with the ambition to complete it cover to cover but that never seems to be the case. Any ideas?
@MyAbidingJournal2 жыл бұрын
That’s amazing that you have such a strong routine! Maybe try using a smaller journal with fewer pages, or a travelers notebook with thin inserts that you can feel like you’ve finished one and get to start a new one, but still have them stored in the same journal cover. hope that helps!

I feel very similarly to you Debbie! Sometimes it’s just not a good season to do as much journaling as we would like to. So very grateful for your patronage!

Hi Kelsey Leigh, Wow, so well said and needed! I find that I easily admire and compare my style to others. Which is not fair to me. And it can stop me from even trying. But when I go back and look at the journals that I have completed I am surprised at how much I like them (not all pages) and see that I do have my own voice and style (eclectic). Thanks so much for this encouraging message. What are you reading these days? God bless you. Renee

So true Renee! I often have a similar experience when looking through my own journals after some time. I’m currently reading The River of Doubt (a Teddy Roosevelt biography) and recently finished Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell which was amazing
