I remember years ago I was considering locs. I mentioned it to my mother. She went on a mini rant on how she didn't like them. I think that was one of my reasons for not doing it. Fast forward to the present day. I plan on locing my hair towards the end of the year. Sometimes people's opinions can delay me from doing things, but they never prevent me from doing what I want. 😂 I've learned to stop sharing what I plan on doing if I am on the fence about it.

Yes of course most of us value our mother’s opinion. Mine told me “locs is an old gal hairstyle” lol Just for her to end up locking hers after I did 🤣 I’m glad you’re going to go for it though, it’ll be worth it’

I am 9 months loc'd. So, I started my locs in October 2022 but seriously thought about locs in the beginning of 2022. At that time I had bra length loose natural hair that I was OVER. It was such a chore & it constantly wanted to loc up so I thought about sister locs with the length. Still procrastinated and eventually big chopped my hair in April thinking that would make me feel better. It didn't, lol & so I grew it out enough to loc it & on Oct 1 2022 I started my traditional locs with my loctician 😊 88 locs & I am in love!
@nattyann Жыл бұрын
Girl! Dont get me started on wash days as a loose natural! 🤣 88! I like that number, remember to take lots of progress pics. I think you made a great decision with traditional locs. 💓

It's a journey for sure! I'm 21 months locd and my locs are evolving. I started with 220 locs but many locd too small so I combined quite a number. Now I have 176. I think the size of these will be what I'm going for. I am so glad I locd my hair. I didn't ask anyone's opinion about my decision. I just did it. Now I am patiently waiting for the length. The locs are still shrinking.

@mybeasley2442 Жыл бұрын
@@nattyann I'm not surprised that I haven't received many comments, positive or negative, about my hair. Other loc wearers have commented favorably. A few others have commented that my locs look great and "i love your hair." Those comments make me happy. My mom and sister have only seen my locs in photos and my mom stated that she loved my hair... but I don't think she realized my hair is locd. In the past, my mom has not been a fan of locs.

I think with the moms it could be a generational thing. I feel as though we are changing the perception which is really cool!

I am 4 & half years loc’d I was wearing yarn braids which look like locs I was getting comments on how people like my locs so I went ahead with it plus I got tried of putting in braids & taking them out which can damage the hair I had been wearing braids since I was a teenager plus don’t want to look like every other blk woman anymore never wearing their natural hair out in public

Period! Cause many black women feel like their hair is not done unless something is covering it 🫠 sad! I’ve never tried yarn braids. Kinky twists were my favorite!

I’m definitely locing my hair. I may do knotless braid one more time before I start my journey , but no one can convince me not to loc my hair at this point. Unfortunately sometime other people opinions can cause me to over think but not with this. I ready to start this journey. Having to deal with detangling thick hair on wash day and having to figure out what to do with my hair is draining😩.
@nattyann Жыл бұрын
I know that’s right! Get all the braided styles you want to get now. There are some braids that I would love to try lol You sound confident and sure! Love that for you. Wash day on loose natural hair is no joke, you’ll fall in love with your locs!

I'm sooo glad I came across your video. I loved everything about it. You and your locs are gorgeous😍. I just started my diy micro locs journey about 3 weeks ago, currently experiencing hella shrinkage. I've thought about locking my hair for years. I would start a set and remove them weeks later because TBH I didn't feel cute with them once the shrinkage set in and also I let other people's opinions discourage me. Fast forward to now, I'm a mom and something about this mom of a toddler season has me feeling more confident than I ever have. Plus the convenience of not always trying to figure out my hair will be a game changer. A lot of growth has happened internally. I'm looking forward to even more growth in this loc journey 🌱☺️God bless!❤️

Hi! Thank you for watching and sharing your insight. A lot of us are so concerned with the length (I actually have a video on that lol kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJSYn36ZbNCmnaM) But after a certain point the hair just drops and next thing you know it’s down your back 🤣 I encourage you to lean into the features of your face and wear earrings and makeup you like. You are stunning btw! That helped me a lot when my hair was short. Short locs are a vibe and you will miss it, so embrace it now. Congratulations on your new journey of locs and motherhood! 💓🤗

I no longer care about what people think about my locs anymore. Most of them have identity issues themselves, and they have hangups with how they look naturally. I had a friend come visit me, see my new baby locs, and say: "Sis, please don't loc your hair." I didn't listen. So tell me why i began seeing posts of her on Facebook--WITH locs!? 😮 Smh

If not, you’ll just have to wait till you’re of age to make your own decisions. 💕

@@nattyann thx luv for the advice .❤️I just love the style and how beautiful it is and that it only requires very little maintenance .I would not consider my mom extremely transitional but she's very close minded especially since she's older .
