We should end ALL Capita contracts. They're vastly overpaid, the company execs are stealing as much of the license fee as they can get away with (under the guise of 'third party' tv shows that allegedly get made then never aired - the rule say the BBC doesn't have to publicize ANY data on these). MOST of the BBC license fee is literally being stolen by Capita (kickbacks to the BBC director general and the BBC board of directors) and the board/director general themselves.

I'm using a plasma panel that I bought in 2003. It still annoys me that I have to switch from analogue to the hdmi input every time I switch on - because the law in those days stipulated that an analogue tuner had to be built into any consumer video display device! Not only that: back then, everyone had to give their name & address when they bought "television" equipment from a store. Now I use an Apple TV, connected to the same plasma panel and my sound system. I have apps for KZbin, GB News, etc., on there. I'll be subscribing to Paramount+ for movies and entertainment this Christmas. It's cheaper than a TV licence, and easy to unsubscribe. I can also hire or buy movies just like in the good old days of Blockbuster! Lol.

They lost everything to Sky and BT, there was a lot less reality shows before the switchover went nationwide. ITV had a lot of FTA cricket but they didn't put much of a fight to retain the rights. Channel 5 had American sports and MMA.

The thing about TV Licences is that under the law it comes under what is known as "ABSOLUTE LIABILITY". This is a legal concept where a person is held responsible for a crime without the need to prove fault, negligence, or criminal intent. In other words, saying my son was in hospital and I forgot to pay the licence is not a defence, as there is no defence under "Absolute liability". If you haven't got a TV Licence and you watch/record live TV or iPlayer then in the law you're guilty regardless of mitigating circumstances. No Sob story will get you out of a conviction. JUST SHUT THE DOOR if goons knock on it!!

Jon, if the nephew had a licence at his own residence isn't he covered to watch live TV in a place he is 'on holiday'. One bit of advice for BBC iPlayer. If you registered before cancelling your licence make sure you delete auto login from TV Apps. Delete your password from the login field. That way, noone can accidently log in as they wont have the password. BBX iPlayer will keep logs of logins, programs watched, tinme of day, etc. etc. Question: Under Data Protection, do the T&C's allow them to pass on confidential info to TV Licensing?

No, having a licence for a property just allows you to watch live TV outside the property from a device running under its own power supply. If you had a caravan or boat, for instance, that had a TV connected to the battery (externally powered) you would need a _separate_ TV Licence for said property. What's even more ridiculous is you can watch live TV on your smartphone anywhere you like if you have a licence and it's just running on its battery, but if you plugged your phone into the mains of someone else's property while watching live TV from it then _they_ need a TV Licence.

Something was said there I wasn’t aware of - that you cannot remove the iplayer icon from your smart TV. This seems wrong if you need a license to use it. If you can’t remove it, then I think you should only be able to access it in the same way, in that you need to be a subscriber, to Now TV, or Netflix. Whenever they knock (or anyone for that matter) I open the top window...as soon as they say TV Licensing just go "nope, registered as not needed, goodbye" since re-registering it's not required back in March I've had 3 visits, must be due another one soon!

Just a question, but if the nephew logged into iPlayer, did he use his own account? If so, there should be no case to answer... surely? *EDIT* So the property where iPlayer is accessed must be covered by a TV licence, even if, as in this case, someone logged in with their own details. This is crazy!

From my understanding, one can use their own licence at a different address if, and only if, no one is watching live TV/BBC at the address the licence is for. At least that's how it used to be

We received a hand delivered letter from TV Licensing claiming we didn't have a TV Licence. We sent them an email with an attachment showing our TV Licence. Never got an apology back from TV Licensing regarding their accusation.

1) Delete your iplayer account 2) Set up a new iplayer account with a random email address which can't identify you (i.e. not your name or one you've used before) 3) Get a VPN 4) Access only on a desktop computer with VPN through a (preferably ad and cookie blocked) browser, NOT on a mobile device or TV through the app. = They'll never catch you, even if they're looking. (Which they're not).

@ nothing on iplayer I watch or indeed would want to. So no need to it. I don’t do live telly. Prime, KZbin and Netflix with the occasional Disney plus for a month or two do it for me

When the TV licensing detector van was coming down our street my parents would turn off the telly draw the curtains turn off the lights and hide behind the sofa .

So what would stop her from logging into her own iPlayer account on a mobile device whilst in a house that IS covered by a licence? Would they still come to the door and accuse her of watching without a licence? She also has a child, did she ask the goon if he had a current eDBS id card as well that was valid for her area before letting him in? If these people are sent out to addresses where (possibly) vulnerable people live then they need to be getting enhanced database & barring service checks done for each and every county/ward they visit.

A DBS doesn't actually work on area by area basis. Once you've got one you're free to use it wherever your employer sends you.

@@gypsygem9395 Wrong! Years ago when it was CRB (before DBS) I worked around Cambridge driving school bus contracts, I needed 3 separate CRBs for the areas we covered. Now I drive a taxi running school contracts and for the area I cover now I have 3 again, Cheshire West & Chester, Cheshire East and North Cheshire. All three needed to be completed (and paid for) as each ward wouldn't recognise the ones I already had. So, yes they DO work on an area by area basi, it's NOT 'one DBS covers everywhere'

I cancelled my license in the summer over the last few weeks I've had 2 email saying I've been watching IPlayer at 2.04 in the afternoon. Not true at both these times we were at Sheffield western park cancer hospital with our daughter only the dog was at home and at the minute we don't need all this stress 😢

I had a tv license guy park up on my pad outside my front door once. I looked out the window and saw him writing on a clipboard. Then he drove off. Lol.

I wonder if he was type that was told to take job by the DWP, so he just sits in a van and write anything down, if you don't make too much commission I think they let you go.
