In 2016, my dog had started having brain tumour symptoms, and was having seizures. She had just had a seizure when one of these goons knocked my door. I answered and said "sorry my dog is really unwell so I don't need this right now", with tears streaming down my face. She said "you're gonna be put down as a unlicensed address then" with a horrible vindictive tone. I said "do whatever you want" and closed the door. Then this angry red letter got shoved through my door. I shoved it straight back out again and I heard her yell something angrily. Her attitude towards me when I was in severe distress was absolutely disgusting. Still licence free to this day 💪.

I fervently hope to _never_ live at a licensed address. It is only the fearful and the highly-stressed - and you were certainly both, on that horrible day in 2016 - who the goons can terrify with the meaningless statement 'Unlicensed address' as if that, in itself, is some sort of threat. As if! If, like me, you do not watch or record any live broadcast programmed television channels, or use iplayer, then living at an unlicenced address means nothing more or less than that, under the terms of the Telecommunications Act 2003, your address is _correctly_ licenced. End of. You need inform no-one of this. As to the legality of a salesperson such as your goon deliberately using words, tones and expressions calculated to frighten a person who us already _clearly_ in a state of distress about other, unrelated incidents which are no fault of their own, well, what can I say? If that is not considered illegal, it darned well should be! Given successive govt's treatment of ordinary folk trying to be honest and upfront, though, I hold out little hope ... I've just written to the TV Licensing Authority, (c.c'd to the Director of Finance at the BBC). I've asked him to explain if the correspondence they keep sending me is genuinely from them. I've told him they have no implied access to my property and I've made a subject access request to them as well, as it my right under the 2018 Data Protection Act. As I understand the law on harassment, they will know that I've got enough evidence to prosecute them. Even so, I'm thinking of taking this further. The TV licence is - legally speaking - a hypothecated tax, which the Government has given the BBC the right to raise. Hypothecation means that the tax can be raised only for something specific. The conduct of the TV Licensing Authority is such that this is not happening. Do you see where I am going? I'm sick of these people who are extorting money from people and I'd be happy to work with you and others to bring an end to this for good.

Ultimately, the DCMS sponsors the BBC and its role carries responsibilities, one of which is to ensure that the BBC does not break the law. Shes told me of a couple of her patients that have been fitted up in court - cos shes had to supply supporting evidence for the fine to be calculated. I did the 'No licence needed' declaration in July 2022. I had no visits. I had no correspondence until September this year asking me to get in touch, then a letter dated 16 October threatening to send the boys round. Allegedly the boys did come round on 29 October but I was in all day & the doorbell never rang but there was a letter in the letterbox stating that someone had called, though the barely legible scribble stated the wrong street name. Still waiting to see if they turn-up, though they must have clocked the big notice on the door stating, "No cold callers, No sales people" which I will point to if they do come back.

Just to let you know: A few years ago I cancelled my TV licence. As part of the process I was asked for a date when I may need one again, this was not optional. Soon after this date I got an email asking me to contact them so they could check my licence status. A month after I got another email yelling me I had no direct debit and to call to set one up. I have not responded to either email. I don't need a license and there is no reason to even talk to them.

GB News is a KZbin channel which you can watch without a licence, as she stated in her letter, she didn't watch anything live. She has clearly been mislead into believing that she needed a licence. She said that she had Virgin only internet, not any TV packages, that is why she pleaded guilty, why!? Having Virgin Internet does not require a TV licence (or we are all in trouble).

You can only watch it on KZbin if it has already gone out and you are watching a recording rather than a livestream. You can watch non TV channels live, and anything that has its own TV channel (apart from the BBC), but you must wait until after the broadcast has been delivered and is just there as a video. So I guess it's best to keep all devices away from your front door (even a smart watch that might indicate you have bigger devices around), because they can go and get an injunction to search your property if they think you have equipment that CAN receive live broadcasts as they are being transmitted, even if it is a match on Amazon Prime. And avoid watching anything with the red dot unless you are certain it cannot be watched on a TV channel!

@@AnnFBug It's a search warrant, not an injunction. The latter is a civil remedy (compelling you to do, or not do, a specific act), not criminal. Thinking you have equipment is insufficient. That's in the realm of 1984 or Minority Report. They need EVIDENCE to put before a Magistrate in order to obtain a warrant. The vast majority of prosecutions are based on a TVL 178 Record of Interview form whereby they try to entrap you. That is why Rule #1 is NEVER engage in conversation. Keep your mouth shut and close the door.

There are 16 countries in Europe alone which mandate some form of licence or tax. Collection methods vary. In Germany and Switzerland you have to pay even if you don't possess a TV receiver. Not only that, both are costlier than the UK. Switzerland by more than £100. If you are legally licence free the current system is no threat. The letters are simply junk mail and deserve no more attention than the leaflets trying to persuade you to buy a conservatory or promoting the local food takeaway. There is no obligation on anyone to communicate with the BBC/TVL. The BBC is the UK's state broadcaster and disseminator of propaganda at home and abroad. There is no way that the government, of whatever colour, is going to let it wither on the vine. Be careful what you wish for. Mark my words, a subscription model will NOT be introduced. They will simply find a way to impose a compulsory tax on EVERYBODY instead.

I had an experience with these jokers a few years go when I lived in a tower block ! one day I heard voices outside my door and heard someone say just break the door in ! on looking through the spy hole I saw someone with their back to me with a council cityworks jacket on ! on opening the door in one hell of a temper the real city works joiner made off in a hurry ! the TV licence guy said "TV licensing " I went berserk with him using a disguise to obtain entry ! he nearly creped himself when he saw how angry I was then he gave me a bit of paper saying just fill that in and say you don't own a TV which I ripped up in front of him ! I then rang TV licensing and all I got from them was " oh we don't know where are inspectors are working ! imagine if I was a vulnerable person ?

dangerous situation they created, they could have been actual robbers in disguise, who had city council jackets or false papers to provide a legit excuse to any bystanders who questioned their actions.

Tristan Kirk of the Evening Standard is doing some fantastic work in exposing how our courts are acting unlawfully in many things, not just the SJP. More people need to realise that our judiciary, especially the magistrates' courts are not following procedures or due process and making rules up as they go along. It's a criminal entity at this point and needs massive overhaul and for the public to demand accountability of our Magistrates and Judges who take an oath top uphold the law.

I can only judge by my sister, but I constantly tell her to tell unsolicited visitors to get lost, but she just won't do it. When our mother was alive, people would phone as ask for her; my sister would blather on saying, " oh, she's too old to come to the phone" etc. I told her not to say things like that as she was giving out information that could generate more sales calls - stair lifts or incontinence pants 😂 - but I simply couldn't get through to her. I have concluded it is a woman thing, they just can't bear to be thought to be rude.

I cannot believe I paid this poxy BBC tax for eleven years! After discovering this KZbin channel I very recently cancelled the licence over the phone, which was demoralising as the woman was aggressive and talking at me in machine gun fashion. I live alone and thanks to this channel I will NOT be intimidated by these goons and threatening letters that will surely come my way. I'm primed and ready to shut the door in their goonish faces without saying a word! I stopped watching live and broadcasting TV years ago as it's repetitive drivel. I did the 'no licence needed' 10th January 2023 online as had paid by annual direct debit . I had a letter asking if I still didn't need a licence last month. I did the same again also online. I have not had a visit yet live in a town of 80,000 plus people. I do have a no callers sign, so maybe that has stopped them calling.

What about doing a pdf of all the things you should & shouldn't do with the TV licence. Then people could download and print it out and pass them on to friends and relatives, it will help educate people that don't know and help protect them from prosecution. What do you think ?
