This really helped my bench press. Feel way stronger and my back feels like it’s activated properly.The bar path also seems to find the right spot every time now. Thanks heaps man!

This makes more sense than any other tips, cues and form I've heard of in the past. Spread the bar instead of bend the bar help keep the tension in the back and strong while I feel bending the bar just turns the lats on and causes the shoulders to roll forward and arm to internally rotate

Good advice. I'm a "tucker", will definitely give this a try. Thanks

Thanks for the great advice. Does this also apply to incline benching?

Hurt my rotator cuff on one side and I think it’s due to this. I hope it’s not hard to change it

Greg nuckols also has a really good video on flaring elbows at bottom over tucking
@jbibanezdude443 жыл бұрын
The point of an effective elbow tuck is to compress the lats to get a bit of "spring" at the bottom though?

I've heard about this cue before, but I think my upper back was always too weak. I'll give it another shot. Thanks for the tips.

Anytime Wally! Best of luck in your training bud!

I can't say that it worked very well, I ended up irritating my shoulders again. The bench has always been a pain in the ass for me. I'll try starting from scratch again using your technique.

Starting to lift again. I never tucked my elbows before. Recently been having bicep pain when benching. Only way I found to alleviate the pain was to tuck the elbows in. Again, I never tucked before. Now not sure what to do.

This is crazy. I’ve been lifting for 9 years and I’ve always led with my elbows but I’ve never thought of doing it like a band pull apart. I’m benching tomorrow so hopefully this improves my bench
@SpitzB4 жыл бұрын
Did it today and I just want to thank you bc I had no shoulder pain... felt like I was actually “sticking the landing” when the bar hit my chest and weight that has always felt heavy was super light. I appreciate you brotha 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

@@SpitzB so awesome to hear that my friend! Glad it could help! Appreciate you!

Coach, should we keep our shoulder blades retracted when we push the bar up 2:39?

Would you recommend the same cues ("Stretching bar, rowing down") when doing a standing overhead press?

i is definitely helpful in competition but outside of that is it a bad thing to tuck a little? just to keep good tricep activation. also i feel most comfortable with my pinky on the ring instead of middle or even index. if it’s more comfortable for me should i just keep it that way or should i try to widen it
@BigBenchas4 жыл бұрын
Hey Constantine, I think you're confusing tucking with elbow position here. It is totally acceptable to take a closer grip and therefore have your elbows positioned closer to the body. The tucking that I'm referring to is continuing to take your elbows out of allignment with the wrist, which we dont want
@makepar94944 жыл бұрын
Big Benchas okay i see, that makes a lot more sense. thank you! love your channel man i’m so glad i found it. and i’m sure you have a video on this somewhere but i’ve also noticed i get a little crap in my lower back when i arch really hard. do you know if there’s any reason why that is? maybe just the way my body type is i don’t need a big arch or something. i’ve been benching pretty seriously for about two years and just hit 280 and i’m super stoked about that. my goal is 330 by the end of the year and i really wanna take it slow now and focus more on technique and avoid injury as much as possible. so if the intense arch isn’t needed then i’ll stick to what’s more comfortable with me. if you have any suggestions or videos let me know. god bless!
@HolidayFortnight4 жыл бұрын
MAKE PAR Increase your arch gradually over time. It always feels awkward at first. If you can only arch aggressively for a few sets per session, then just do that and then finish with less arch. Work on getting more comfortable with a big arch gradually over time.

Powerlifters tuck their elbows in, just look at their bench shirts, if you ever tried putting one on the arm sleeve is stitched almost to the ribs to help tuck your elbows in during power bench, if you pull out your elbows you using your shoulders.
