I'm a tea grower and tea maker in the US. What he says about bags is true and they should be avoided if possible. Usually, the tea in the bags is of the lowest quality as well. Also, true teas are made from a plant called Camellia sinensis, which is what he's serving here. The jasmine is merely an added flavoring; most of the character comes from the plant itself.

@greeleyestateslove

If it's made of PAPER, it's fine to steep and drink in the bag (though there could be some glue holding the paper together at the seams so if that bothers you, then don't steep in the paper bag). If the tea bag is made of a mesh/plastic, or you are unsure, yes cut it open and put the loose tea in a stainless steel tea steeper thing to steep as normal. There are several kinds of steel tea steepers.

lol, no this is too hyper specific. now financial management and responsibility is what EVERYONE needs to know. this is just quality information for folks who actually make their own tea. some folks just buy tea by the jug. Gold Peak, Nestea, Lipton, Arizona and so on. so many gallon jugs of prebrewed tea. is it good for you? probably not since sweet tea kinda goes hand in hand with diabetes but I LOVE tea and I dont like steeping. anyway, my main point is that not EVERYONE drinks tea bagged or even loose leaf tea. but EVERYONE does have a financial responsibility to manage their budget. soooo yeah tea aint that important. the info is great but not so important to waste tax payer dollars on a hobby. idk, are you Brittish? now maybe they could use their taxes for Tea but for the US its not that important.

It's only the silly, see-through teabags that are made of plastic and thus release microplastics into your tea. Paper tea bags are perfectly fine. However, loose leaf tea is often higher quality than bagged and you're not paying extra for all the extra packaging. I have a big fancy loose leaf collection but sometimes I'm lazy and use Barry's in a mug.
