Don't be obsessed with lengthening your hamstrings or loosening them by stretching. Not only is static stretching of the hamstring a waste of time, but it can also in the process stretch your sciatic nerve if you're not careful. Tight does not necessarily mean bad, what we need for running is that elasticity of the muscle, dynamically. Not static like in most stretches you see suggested.
Hope this video sheds some light on how you can make your hamstrings work for you to become a better runner, loosen tight hamstring without stretching them and use some massage techniques with reciprocal inhibition instead!

Hi Stephane, thanks for sharing the risks of incorrect stretching. Interesting how many "professional" opinions there are on this subject. Your explanation makes sense, and I think I'll try the ball under the hamstring.

It's always good to dive deeper into a subject. This might not work for other activities, but for running, pretty sure we need those hammies! Unless there is a true pathology or dangerously short hamstrings... Should have specified that... Thanks for watching and please let me know if the ball thing works for you!

Hey there, Stephane! Your video was incredibly insightful and helpful. I never realized the potential risks of improper hamstring stretches before. Your explanation about the sciatic nerve and the importance of elasticity in the hamstrings for runners really made sense. This is an interesting and informative video even though I don't do hamstring stretches. This 'stretch hater' will try your recommend hamstring stretch instead 😆

very timely. Massage ball + hard based seat seems to be more painful (and presumably more effective)

More painful is not necessarily more effective. Just trying to mechanically pin the muscle down while it lengthens. The pain is just the bonus 😁
