I just want to clarify that I think golf is a great sport and wonderful when people find activities that they love! I hope no one feels like I was speaking negatively on the sport or has anxiety around their partner playing! It was meant to just be silly banter about how time consuming the sport is 💛⛳️

Cancer survivor here too, however male. OP's wife, friends and mother are just pure garbage. The daughter begging OP to give his wife a second chance has me thinking, that the wife is manipulating the daughter in order to manipulate OP, which makes her even more of a garbage person. As someone who has had a partner go through the whole cancer process with them, it wouldn't even cross my mind to want a hall pass, because I was close to death or whatever.

About the 2nd story: Why is everybody only talking about what SHE went through? HE was confronted with the possible death of his wife of over 20 years! That's traumatic too.
@theunkindnessofravens
@theunkindnessofravens Жыл бұрын
It’s easy for wife’s friends and relatives to care about her, because in the end it’s about *their* almost-loss of her. She could have disappeared and in the process lost a crucial part of her womanhood (saying that one loosely, since it’s not the organ that makes a woman), so for them it’s vital for her to do everything she want to “recover”, because this way her circle can feel that they will recover with her. The husband in this is forgotten, unfortunately. I think it’s equally the personal callousness and human nature. It’s easy to not pay attention to things that are good and okay, and since the husband was there the whole time and didn’t break down, wife and her circle got a feeling that he will be there no matter what. Good for him to leave. With wife having a whole cheerleading team, she can’t confront how horrible her behavior is - all she will hear is how she is in the right and how wrong her husband is. Especially with her comment about how she confidently thought that the marriage “won’t end over this”. I think with her echo chamber she forgot that she is not the only one in the marriage

I totally agree, I see people react different to cancer and death. Sometimes people in their last days can be selfish, I saw that happen a few times. But still never like this form of hedonism. but It’s so weird that her environment just all agreed with this that no one said the truth to her. She sounds like the trauma caused her personality to change and not for the better.

Thank you every time they said what she bent through I screamed what about what he’s been through yes she had cancer and struggled with that but she didn’t go through it by herself sounds to me he stood by her every step of the way probably putting on a brave face for her but also being worried that he potentially could be losing the love of his life. Then for her to turn around and disrespect him like that is so heartbreaking

This! And as someone whose dealing with possible uterine cancer myself he had to deal with everything leading up to it sexually too and didn’t seem to flinch or blink he stayed by her side and carried her when she needed it… I agree with Lauren to throw that away for an orgasm, for sex… not worth it.

as a child of someone who survived cancer (twice), I can confirm that it’s equally traumatic for everyone in the family. my mother felt no urge to cheat after getting her breast removed. and as someone who has been in a polyamorous relationship, polyamory only works if everyone in the relationship is aware and 100% comfortable with the established rules and boundaries. if you break those rules and cross those boundaries, you’re cheating, end of story.

She got greedy. The cancer made her realise she wanted to put her desires before anything else. Which is fine generally speaking. She just didn't understand that's what being single means. She looked back on every concession she's made in their marriage and lost sight on the mountain of benefits she received in return. Sad she let her friends speak louder than her husband, daughter or therapist. Fuck around and find out will feel very lonely now.

My favorite episodes are the ones with Lauren. She is so fun to listen to because she’s just being herself. She doesn’t constantly filter herself to say the most correct answer. I feel like some of the guests use therapist lingo/try to give a super mature or professional reactions. Don’t get me wrong I love everyone on the podcast and I’m thankful for everyone’s contribution. But I just especially love Lauren’s approach. She doesn’t take herself too seriously or feel like she needs to give therapist grade advice/takes. I prefer hearing takes that feel human and relatable rather than takes that feel overly mature or professional. I love the episodes that just feel like girls chatting about gossip and being silly.

That second story is so sad. It sounds like the wife hasn’t properly dealt with the lingering trauma from her cancer experience and instead of dealing with it in a healthy way-communication, personal therapy, couples therapy, surrounding herself with uplifting ppl-she used her cancer experience as a manipulation tool. Either that or she’s genuinely a nasty person… in that case, it’s good to remember that sick ppl can be jerks too and make bad decisions, their history doesn’t excuse any of that.

@thiacari
@thiacari Жыл бұрын
The polyamory route would be closer to what Morgan said: 1. Hey hubby, been having these feelings... 2. Therapist, to make sure it's not some childhood/other trauma 3. Build a strong relationship with husband 4. Then a year or two later, if still feel like it, discuss again what would be acceptable for both. 5. If he would not be open to any form of threesome/open/lover, but she feels 100% it's the direction of her life, then they should use 1 more year for an amicable divorce. 6. THEN she could build new relationships that meet her new needs.

@@meowiestwoare you kidding? The whole reason the position of coroner is an elected official(who could have no medical degree) is bc there aren’t enough forensic pathologists. If you’re curious, John Oliver did a special about death investigations and a good documentary to watch is “Post Mortem: Death Investigations In America.” Let’s also not forget, famously Marilyn Monroe’s body was missing for hours after she died. 😒 One of the reasons you find It so difficult to find cases on It is because they aren’t made known to the public. Because it’s not a murder, it’s not sensationalized. It’s a private criminal case. Do you hear about every sentencing in your local court house? Furthermore, many are not caught for a long time if ever and then when they are, top officials do their best to keep It under wraps/discreet so that It doesn’t become a sensation. This is why they have numbers for case studies but you don’t have names. Some stats: Rosman and Resnick reviewed 123 cases of necrophilia. The sample was divided into genuine necrophiliacs, who had a persistent attraction to corpses, and pseudo-necrophiliacs, who acted out of opportunity, sadism, or transient interest. Of the total, 92% were male and 8% were female. 57% of the genuine necrophiliacs had occupational access to corpses, with morgue attendants, hospital orderly, and cemetery employees being the most common jobs. A total hysterectomy has the effect of producing early menopause due to the fact that the ovaries are removed and you can’t naturally produce your hormones anymore, it can be really difficult to deal with that since it can have a lot of physical side effects. But also in a symbolic sense- many women tie their womanhood to their reproductive cycles. The ability to have periods, make and develop life and eventually bear that life is synonymous to womanhood traditionally. It can really shake things up when you realise that those functions are taken away from you, either through biological or medical means, i hope that makes sense!

I had a hysterectomy at 30 years old. Yes it can feel like a blow but that is not a reason to cheat and take away your spouses agency. I can’t even imagine hurting someone like that, even when I was hurting the most. Divorce was necessary in this case because she is a selfish narcissistic waste of air.

As someone who has been cheated on and lied to in nearly every relationship; I understand Lauren’s skepticism and it sucks that it’s our first instinct to question everything because it’s real shit that has happened 😭 it’s not controlling bc it’s not something she’s actually doing/saying, she’s voicing the intrusive thoughts that do come up when thinking of that type of scenario and I 100% get it and am sorry you have to question those things as well. Story 2 hits home because that's how my parents divorced. Minus the cancer, my mom's best friends kept talking her into cheating on my dad and when my dad realized, into divorcing him. When she realized she would get nothing because of cheating and home abandonment (idk in the US but this is a thing in my country) she accused my dad of violence, which of course wasn't true and also my dad had photos and their chats. I was 15 and had to leave with her but 2 months later her best friend's husband told my dad that he should take me away from her because my mom just wanted to be "free" and it wasn't a good environment for me. One week later she left me with my dad. Fast forward to now, my mom has been struggling economically ever since and lost her kids' trust. Mainwhile her best friends are living their best life with their families. It's sad bit it's their own stupid decisions.

My cousin got married at 20 and his wife was 17 1/2, they had 5 kids in 8 years and she had to have an emergency hysterectomy after the premature birth of their youngest son. It ended up being the biggest blessing because within a couple of years she was diagnosed with two auto immune diseases and probably would have continued having kids if not. They have had strains throughout with her many hospitalizations, almost losing their son twice, their daughter's diabetes diagnosis and other daughter's marriage breakdown but both were each others first and have just celebrated their 45th anniversary. I've lost both parents to cancer but can't imagine cheating because you had a hysterectomy. Yes, cancer is scary but she beat it and chose to do her own thing without even discussing it with her husband. She took her wants and ran with it.

The story about the wife having cancer.. I havent finished your takes on it yet but I feel as though the fact that HE went through something traumatic as well is being completely glossed over. Imagine getting the news that your partner got a cancer diagnosis, it seems as though he may be an overthinker anyway and I'm sure that sent his brain into a spiral of what ifs and I myself know what its like to break your own heart over hypotheticals, especially when that hypothetical is losing your partner due to them dying. I'm glad she was able to make a full recovery but I'm sure at some point that man had to face the idea of "what if my wife doesn't beat this?" And if he was there for her the way he's claiming to have been, I'm sure he had many traumatizing moments as well. My heart breaks for him.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this. He said he wasn't worried, but watching your spouse go through cancer treatment and other traumatic events is traumatic in itself. It is so bizarre that his wife did not appreciate the person that was there to support her every step of the way.

I really wonder if part of her motivation was a perceived lack of reaction. He said in the beginning that he was never worried that she was going to die - why not?? I get that it's an early stage but she still needed a total hysterectomy. It feels like maybe he was repressing a bigger reaction to his wife having a serious health scare, or putting on a brave face or something, and maybe that led to his wife thinking she wasn't valued. Absolutely doesn't excuse her behavior, she was way out of line. This should have gone to couples therapy before it went to taking away his say in their marriage. Her selfish behavior is inexcusable and this relationship was over the second she said she was doing this without his permission.

Story 1: When Lauren said “ugh, I hate it when the one who cheated plays the victim” I was like “omg yeah, this guy is DARVO-ing her!” For those not in the know, DARVO is an acronym used for identifying when someone is abusing you, and it stands for “Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim/Offender”. This dude hit the trifecta! He denied, denied, and denied some more in the face of overwhelming evidence that he’s a cheating mf, then he attacked her by constantly “flipping out” when she reacted to the new info, and then when she started up the divorce, he goes all “omg how could you do this to me, you’re breaking up our family, please don’t do this to me!” She ain’t doin’ shit bro, you’re facing the consequences of your own actions!! But that’s what they do, they try to make the victim into the offender. These are warning signs for escalating abuse, and I hope she’s able to smoothly and safely complete the divorce process.

I totally get what Lauren was trying to say with the golf reference, she wasn't implying that golfers cheat. She was stating that a person who plays golf has the easiest cop-out IF he decided to cheat, it would be harder to suspect a person who devotes many many many hours to playing a sport. If my guy was gone for 6 hours "playing basketball" I would absolutely question him, on the other hand if he played golf I would simply say "It usually takes this long 🤷‍♀️". 14:06

Story 3: Agree with you guys about your decision as a whole and the guy's a total asshole but I think it's really inappropriate and dangerous to suggest that getting someone pregnant because they lied about being on the pill is somehow the fault of the person being lied to ?? I very much consider that sexual assault, (much like lying about wearing a condom, taking a condom off in the middle of sex, poking holes in a condom, lying about not having an STD, etc.) It's lying about something sexual with someone who would not have agreed to the sexual act if they knew the truth. And yes, everyone should be careful, but this feels like when people blame women for "choosing bad men". You can't choose a liar if you don't know they're lying. Good thing this didn't end up being the case in the story, but to hear you guys say it would have been his fault if it was is gross and disappointing to hear from people who usually take SA and mental health issues very seriously.

completely agree!! in my country it falls under reproductive abuse/coercion & in some cases is classified as "sperm theft"... i don't think it is punishable by jail time, but the man faulted does not have to legally be on the birth certificate & does not legally owe any care or child support to the child. the only unfortunate thing is it is really difficult to prove that is what happened. unless you have a confession from the woman, or indisputable evidence (like messages outling her plan, etc.) the woman can often claim birth control simply failed, it was an accident, & so on.

For the cancer story: Her friends, her mother, and herself kept repeating, "what she is going through", "her feelings.." etc, but no one ever considered what he went through as the one being there for her through the cancer, and the thoughts he could have had of losing his wife. If she didn't know how to cope with loosing her womanhood, she should've found therapy through the hospital that helped her. Not used cheating to cope. My godmother had breast cancer, and my mom had cervical cancer, we ALL hurt. Ofc we aren't the ones with cancer, but being there and seeing what your loved one is going through IS difficult. Also- the hospitals did offer counseling for the cancer victim, AND the family.

My grandpa lived a double life. It all was exposed when my grandma died. They had been married for 60 years! I grew up with my grandparents as my traditional elderly grandparents. My grandpa worked all the time. We joked about how weird it was, especially as he grew old past retirement age... Turns out, he had a double life, with a woman and a child that was his in the neighboring town. They all still live together! When my grandpa brought his 30 year old daughter to a family event after my grandma’s death, I asked him who she was. He introduced her as his daughter, when I questioned further, he yelled at me, called me names, and said I have no right to question him, and he never wishes to see me again. I told him I loved him and left the dinner. I have never spoken to him since. I can’t imagine how my grandma felt keeping up this lie for so many years! Decades. It turns out, according to family rumors, she knew, but had refused a divorce. Hence creating a lie that was our lives. It was heartbreaking realizing that We were the fake family. 😢

I was NOT prepared for story 4 😳😳😳😳😳😳 also - when it comes to SA, it’s usually more about power than it is sexual preference. It’s about the act of violence and not the sex act, so gender isn’t always a part of the equation for offenders. My assumption would be that it was an opportunistic choice (like the man was what was available to him at the moment he decided to go through with it) and not so much about him being a man. It’s definitely possible it was a sexual orientation thing, but we have to be careful about relating sexual preference and sexual deviance. They get lumped together a lot and it’s the root of the “lgbt are predators ” narrative.
@sierracclanell2299
@sierracclanell2299 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for including this, that’s exactly right. That’s why a lot of sexual predators don’t have an exact “preference”, it’s about opportunity to them mostly. I mean their are some that have specific MO’s but most of the time it’s because it’s part of their pathology and even they will step out of those at times. Like for example Ted Bundy definitely had a type, long haired brunette women but even he didn’t just hurt women of his preferred type as he ended up victimizing a child at one point. So yeah, a lot of offenses are opportunistic. It comes down to power and control, a lot of the time it’s not even about “attraction” in the way normal people define it.
