I'm in the market for a new TV for streaming and gaming when I can get ahold of a console. I have to say, the way you speak is very well done. You don't seem to have any kind of habit like saying uhhh or using a word constantly between thoughts. You speak clearly and pronounce and annunciate words properly. The rate at which you speak is perfect imo. You have a lot of info to cover but you don't ever ramble or get lost on a tangent. Very well done.

I went from 50¨ to 65¨, making the talking heads bigger than life, which is unnatural. No regrets though, since when watching movies the bigger screen compensates for the size loss due to the black bars. The benefit of a smaller TV is your old SD DVD´s shine, without much need for BluRay or 4K. My old 50¨ had a resolution of only 1280x720, but with my present 65¨ 4K, my DVD collection falls short.

I wish they would make more TVs with the pedestal stand and not the stands on the television corner. I do not own an 80 inch or more wide entertainment unit to put a television on, and hanging the TV is not an option for me. I also do not have the space for an entertainment unit that vast; however, I have room for the television's width. I wonder why they make TVs with the stands on the corner these days. Anyone knows?

Good job. Its very hard to make a choice with so many options out there but this chat from you makes it a lot easier. I have a 32 inch Sony Bravia thats about 10 years old. Works well and has a great picture. I would like a bigger screen. Considering the options still. I think a 55 inch for a small living room will fit the bill. I have had such good luck with Sony I think I will most likely stick with Sony.

not gonna lie, it's crazy to me that at 6 feet you think a 55 inch is too small. sure 65 is still better, but given peoples range of budgets I think getting a higher quality 55 inch is a totally viable option vs a budget 65.

@@joKerchy I agree; I’m at 9’ viewing distance in my TV room and when I mocked up the 65” and 75” dimensions against the wall, the 75” looked way too big; like I’d have to be scanning side-to-side all the time to see everything… the 65” mock-up was only a few inches narrower but it felt right. Still took up a lot of wall, but it didn’t give the impression that I’d be swaying my head left and right constantly 55” just looked way too small for my wall/viewing distance. It was only a few inches narrower than the 65” but seeing the difference between all 3 really sold me on a 65” (I’ve yet to get anything nearly a year later, but I’m thinking that this is the year 🤞) I’m still fighting myself between the 65” Samsung QN90A and the 65” LG G1… Without side-by-side comparison I’d likely never feel that an OLED is too dim brightness wise in certain settings, but conversely, without a side-by-side comparison I’d likely not notice black crushing or poor dark details in dark scenes or aggressive blooming on a QLED in other situations. I’ve seen people get pretty close to OLED picture quality on their QLED’s with custom picture settings, but that’s still not *~AS~* good, and I’ve seen people try and tweak settings to try and get around the ABL on their OLED’s but it still tends to kick in on large bright areas and be a little annoying… No tv is perfect (yet) and even if there was one, it’d either be insanely expensive or they’d find ways to make it marginally “more perfect” each year. Currently I’m seeing the 65” QN90A for $2k and the 65” G1 for $2,700 (both on BestBuy website) but I’d have to drive 2 hours away as they don’t ship to my area for some reason I think the lower price of the Samsung and not having to concern myself even a tiny bit about image retention over time is leaning me towards the Samsung, but I’m not 100% settled on that choice… Worse of all is that I *KNOW* I’m way overthinking this… I’m looking to go from what’s surely a 15+ year old 32” Westington w/ built in DVD player to a brand spanking new 65” flagship TV. There’s no way that I won’t be blown away for at least a decade by either one…. barring quality issues of course 😓

@Stan Kappiris I have one of those vintage media consoles (TV in the middle with pull-out swing doors, and top-access turntable and radio on either side); I already took the TV out since it didn’t work anymore to use that space for media players/game consoles, and I removed the turntable to use that space as a storage cubby. I kept the radio and *INTEND* to run whichever TV I get to the consoles speakers. It won’t be surround or anything fancy, but those old speakers sounded nice and rich when we tested the unit a few years ago. The room I’m in is fairly wide but not so deep, so I think it’ll sound pretty darn good if I can pull this off. And if it just sounds like an unimpressive sound system, at least the volume should be much better than if it were just the TV by itself With the vintage sound stuff I have I fear I’m just a scarf away from being mislabeled as a hipster 😅

My current "TV" is a Vizio E60 E3. It sits on a dresser in my bedroom (where I spend most of my time) at the foot of my bed (7ft). I'm looking to upgrade to OLED and the LG C1 seems to be the best TV all around. My problem is that the 65" is out of my budget, but the 55" is. I'm going to wait until Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales to see if the 65" goes down in price.

FOMO is the real deal when it comes to purchasing a TV. Great rundown! The quality of TVs along with streaming, sports and gaming has tremendously improved from five and 10 years ago. I had a 2011 Sony Bravia 55" and 2015 curved Samsung 55". When I purchased my last TV, 42" was middle of the road. Today, 65" is middle and if you want to remain above the curve in terms of size for years to come go 75"/85". Nevertheless, during Prime Day 2021, I got the 65" LG CX for 1849.00 for my master bedroom. Great Buy! I am looking at the Samsung QN90A 75" for the holidays. Great work FOMO.

@@cyyoung6351 I don’t know what image dropout is, but maybe they got a dud unit and are projecting their units issues as being true for all Samsung’s? Same as the QLED/LCD crowd implies that *ALL* OLEDS are going to get burn in. Not necessarily true, but it ~IS~ a possibility, though apparently a less and less likely one each model year with added/improved safeguards… but the subpar brightness on OLED’s is still a big snag for me… just like black crushing and so-so dark viewing on QLED’s is still a snag They each have great attributes and they each have their limitations… I do feel that Samsung’s higher brightness potential and ability to maintain it without dealing with an auto brightness limiter gives it an edge with me. I’ve seen custom settings bring Samsung reasonably close to an OLED’s display, but it’s still not ~as~ good; but surely a million times better than my 32” Westington 😐😕

@@dperr338 im probably gonna choose the LG b1, primarily for console gaming but also to watch movies on. Can’t use dolby 4k 120hz on B1 so if you want that, get the C1. (So normal 4k 120hz instead i think) If you are gonna play games, go LG, otherwise, Sony or Samsung is pretty good. But you choose yourself :) Thats what i have understood so far in my search.

@@lowprime I can’t buy one right now but I really like the Vizio Oled or Sony X95j or X90k depending on the price and what has been improved for 2022. I want a wide color gamet. I have a Vizio M series and was looking to upgrade in both quality and size. The Vizio seems to have good detail in dark scenes but lack depth that the Sonys have. They both seem to perform well for Dolby Vision. I mainly watch movies occasionally play xbox one and ps4. Only if a game comes out that I wanna play.

I bought the Hisense U8G and I couldn't be happier, this TV kicks all these expensive TVs in the ass. The brightness is unbelievable and it hits the blacks just as well as any of these without a microscope. For most people at half the price it is amazing for video games, sports and streaming content.

@@EduardoMartinez-fk2pv really bad ghosting on the ps5. I don’t recommend it if you have a ps unless you plan on using the hdmi 2.0 port and not the 2.1 port. I would go with an entirely different tv if gaming is your main reason

I've always had Samsung TVs before, still do in our bedroom, I was worried but this TV blew me away and for 1/2 the price of the comparable TVs.

Difference between flagship (A90J) vs mid range (A80J) is usually just one new feature. In Sony's case it was the significant gain in brightness. The mid tier is usually last year's flagship.

Awesome content! I am very interested in the OLED, we do primarily TV, streaming, and I do casual gaming on a PS5. We recently moved and our new setup is 11 ft+ and we have a large wall that can fit a massive TV(currently have like a 48inch that 'worked' in our old home and we are getting by in this setup). We 'have' the budget to go crazy. But its so hard for me to justify regardless of that, to spend $5K+ on a 83 inch TV when the 77 inch is so much cheaper. Just hard for me to think those extra inches will make $2K+ worth of difference, especially given what we are use to.

I got a Samsung curved 4k about 4 years ago. After about a month, I noticed it acting slow when starting up programs, closing programs randomly, and having trouble having 2 programs open (for example, I’d have to exit fully out of Netflix before starting up Hulu). Also, it would do this weird thing where if I turned on my Playstation, I would get a blank screen and have to go to a different input and then back to the one for my PS4 to get a picture. I contacted customer support a dozen times and all they did was reset my TV which would help for 2 days and it would go right back to how it was. This week, it stoped working with a blinking red light in the bottom right corner. I looked at a few online causes and ways to fix it which didn’t work. Unfortunately this gave me a bad impression of Samsung. I most likely will be going with LG or Sony next which may be better since I’m a gamer (For Life!).

Still has my mind boggled on what to get. Your step guide had me going for Samsung, then step 3 changed it to a Sony while it ignored step one and two... still confused. And I agree with others about size. We have a 43" at the moment and it's plenty big enough, we sit from 6 feet to 9 feet. We stream mainly while watching blu-ray from our collection. TV is next to the window. Buget is £800. Think I'm looking for a Samsung or Sony and 50 or 55" will be big enough for us. Been looking but I'm still lost on what to go for.

I actually went from a 55” mid range TCL to a 48” C1 and I have no regrets. I would have preferred a 55” C1 but it’s 400 US dollars more than the 48” in my country, not worth it. I am very happy with the C1, sure it’s a little smaller than my previous TV but the gaming experience and picture quality is on another level plus I sit less than 5 ft away from the tv anyway .

I’d hide a TV in my living room if I could as I do think they tend to dominate the room too much. I think TV manufacturers are missing a trick by not thinking more about the design of TVs in relation to a room’s interior design plan. Having said that, I chose a Samsung 55in TV which I thought was going to be too big but when it was installed it was perfect. After being a Sony lifer, I chose Samsung because of the size, budget (a Black Friday deal), anti glare screen properties, features, brand quality, 5 year guarantee & I got a free sound bar thrown in. Really happy. I would not hesitate to recommend your videos to anyone wanting to buy a TV. You’re amazing! Thanks.

Nice job. I have an apparent draw to Sony, Bravia models specifically. I have a 65 for the man cave, a 75 for downstairs, a 78 for the main room, a 60 for the master bed. Additionally, still two tube modes for the basement beds. I love Sony.

TCL is the best, value wise, feature wise, and versatility wise. TCL TVs also tend to be fully compatible with next gen consoles, especially the Xbox Series X with all the features you need at a low price.

@@yourma-uh5um Wrong. Hong Kong manufacturer, which only recently finally got taken over by China, but under certain laws and regulations. These TVs were also made before China "acquired" Hong Kong, so I would trust them wholeheartedly!

I loved my 6-series 75" TCL (2019 model) until it broke (power supply and could not get replacement part) after a year and a half. No more TCLs since they don't support servicing them after the sale. Went with LG C1 from Costco, very happy and 5 year warranty included....

I have a small living room area with the couch set 8 feet from the TV. Our old TV was 50”. My husband and I agreed that the recommended 65” TV would be too big for our home. If you think the above recommended sizes would be too overwhelming for your space, go with your gut. Otherwise, the four parameters he sets above are good for the average consumer.

With a higher pixel density you can go bigger. Our couch and chairs are similar and we have a 40 inch tv we bought a few years ago from Samsung that I’m not itching to replace. What do you get for your money? Bigger and deeper blacks. I don’t even think we have a problem right now. I can’t see the need either.

Definitely right. The sizes in this video are too big for the distance but all the rest is on point even though with risk of OLED. For 8 feet, 55" is the way to go.

@@SylvexDragonskin yeah it’s way too big for how close you are and if anything, it’s more so the room that dictates the size. And if you are close to the wall or stand then you would choose to either get smaller or keep the chosen size. That’s why I’m loooking for a 55 inch in the gaming room compared to the living room with a wall mounted 65 inch even though the distance away is roughly the same. It would totally look out of place in the gaming room with the angled ceiling from the roof and placement fo one side of the room etc. plus for gaming it wouldn’t be that ideal haha

I have a Samsung 3D 1080p TV I bought 10yrs ago and it still looks great. Maybe this year I'll switch over to 4k but I never really felt the need to. I wish they still came out with more 3D content for those 3D fans.

I bought the Hisense U7G 55", I sit maybe 7-8 feet and wanted 120hz Qled for a decent price. Plan on getting a ps5 and even with my 50" 1080p tv was big enough 😆. Im not to worried about the more expensive name brands, just need a tv that'll work and either way it'll be a big upgrade.

Oh yeah, a warning to people planning on buying a TCL TV. It had built in ads. Had I known this going in, I would have avoided this TV. It's the main reasons I'm looking to replace it. *No TV should have ad banners popping up while you're using your TV*

I've had LG & Sony smart tvs in the past and they were really good quality tvs. But this year I bought a Samsung smart tv 6 months ago. It is by far the best tv I've ever purchased. It has all the apps like you would your phone where unlike LG and Sony it was limited which kinda sucked. Also because it is Samsung it connects to my phone easily. Both video and sound quality are on point the lighting and brightness is perfectly synced I didn't have to adjust anything. Samsung all the way for me.

I had 2 samsungs and both screen died out in 5 years . Was told they have bad quality control and . Also they are not the best smart tvs because they cannot be updated like sony

They all make cheaper models and better models. Some have a broader range of build quality for longevity, as someone who repaired tvs for years I have seen more led and main board failures on LG and vizio (made with LG components) than anything else. Older samsungs had capacitor issues. Their newer cheaper budget edge lit models have a high led failure rate and often the reflector panel behind the screen even melts and warps. Also, cyan is often greenish on samsung tvs for some reason. Id say the sony is the best for longevity but samsungs better tvs are good too.. When it comes to the cheaper sets, the companys name on the front sometimes isnt even the company who designed or built it. A lot of LGs older high end sets for example where mostly samsung components not sure if thats changed.. Also, often the cheaper chinese tvs can actually have multiple sets of different tv guts sold in the same case with the same model number..

Fomo, not only are you amazing but based on your advice and watching a ton of your fantastic videos. i was able to replace my tv for a 8 series from tcl mini led.. almost oled but 1/2 the cost of a q90a or a sony.. i nearly bought the sony based on SDR alone but the TCL just POPs .the U8G was also quite expensive....anyway i have superscribed as appreciation of your fantastic reviews and commentary that is so informative.

Since 2013, I've been using a 40 inch 1080p Sony R450A and I absolutely love this TV. It has deep blacks, solid colors, it's awesome. I'm starting to have issues with it so I am in the market for a new TV. I figured Sony would be the safe bet because of how much I love the R450A, but I bought the 50" X90J and I did not like it at all, it was nowhere near as good as my current Sony TV, so I sent it back, thought maybe it could have been a fluke, then I purchased a 43" X85J and it was the same picture quality, which I wasn't a fan of. Pretty disappointed about that because I thought Sony was a safe option.

Good video, i am thinking about buying a replacement TV for my sister who had a 40" might pick up a 50 or 55" or two one for each of us that all depends on my paycheck this month :) Oled is out of the budget for sure, streaming, gaming and light gaming in both usages of course
