Thank you, Carel, for this wonderful explanation about one of my favorite paintings. I was so excited when I saw it when I visited the Museo del Prado in 2019... 🤗 What stood out immediately were those beautiful colors and the awkward way in which the characters are crammed together in order to fit in the painting. As you mentioned, emotions are so palpable that the mere contemplation of the painting makes it very moving

WONDERFUL Carel, fascinating!!! For quite a few years now I've been a bit obsessed with seeking out van der Weyden in my travels and this one is an exceptional example of his work. So funny because just yesterday I was looking online at works in the Prado because my boyfriend went to Madrid for business, dreaming of going back there, thinking that I really really must make it a priority (it was the 80s last time I was there!!!🤦🏻♀) I often drool over the Braque Triptych in the Louvre, however a few times I've made the pilgrimage to the Hospice de Beaune to stream tears over the Beaune Alterpiece, which I think even surpasses this awesome work!!

@@storiesofart wow. Very many thanks for your reply. I really do like your videos. I started after doing a refurbishment of a small copy of the Gent Alter Piece for a Catholic Church in Cardiff during which I wanted to learn about this fabulous work of art. I have watched your video countless times including the links that you highlighted. You have a wonderful natural way of presenting. Take care. God bless.

You describe the gospel as 'Gospel'. Who believes it to be non-fiction?

Me! (with hundreds of millions of Christians around the world). Read Luke 1 to get a sense of his search for eyewitnesses to document his narrative. Many New Testament scholars support the Gospels as reliable.
