Storms..Heavy rain..High winds..Three days Wildcamping in the Scottish Highlands..Terra Nova Voyager.
On this trip im joined by ‪@PaulMessner‬ & ‪@danielince8084‬ on a trip to the Scottish highlands for a 3 day trip around the Lochnagar region of the Cairngorms national park..We summited & camped the first night just below the highest summit of the trip Lochnagar Cac Carn Beag at 1156 metres my highest camp to date elevation wise.
It was a themed trip of high winds,heavy rain & a nervous few hours the second night below the summit of Broad Cairn 998 metres where we were hit with the heaviest rain ive ever experienced & a thunder & lightning storm..Thankfully after a few hours the storm passed & a peaceful night ensued.
A great trip none the less in a stunning area & can't wait to return.

Looked like you had a great trip. Scotland makes the Lakes/Dales/Peak seem a bit tame! Muick is pronounced "Mick"! I've been up in that area a few times ...one Winter with a mate we camped at the Dubh Loch under Broad Cairn in terrific winds. We used ice axes and sections of trekking poles to hold the Ultra Quaser down. The wind was picking ice up off the loch and throwing them round the tent! Really enjoyed your video Cheers Alistair 👍

Stunning Video, thanks for sharing. Nice tribute to the late Queen. The building that you looked down upon on the shore of Loch Muick appears to be a lodge in its present form built in 1868 by Queen Victoria. Wikipedia says that she called it her ‘Widow’s House’ where she could escape from the world following the death of her husband Albert. All the best, Peter.

Hi Andy! Superb watch as always pal 👍🏻 Those damn midges do my head in lol.. some amazing views there when the clouds weren't covering too much 😂 Scotland is one beautiful place indeed!! Good job on hitting some more Monroes too 👏🏻 you gonna try and smash them all now aswell being as though you completed the Wainwright's? 😁💪🏼 Always laugh to myself when you see a toposcope next to a trig showing all the points of interest but you're in the clouds haha. I said it on Instagram but can see it better on here, that new tent looks bang on mate 👌🏻 definitely some great room in there really looking forward to seeing it more as the years advances.... Glad you got a too a little sunset on your first night and some stags!! 😱😃 Was good to see your Rab waterproof jacket performing well and especially with the wind blowing all the water off. I need to get a new one was looking at a Mountain Equipment Tupilak or Lhotse jacket. Both just shy of £400 but ive heard they are on point! Have you ever tried them? Or may look at the Rab ones either you or Paul have. ONLY reason is I've had my Revolution Race one for a while now and has never failed me or let water in. Was on the Lakes with Paul (A Cumbrian Lad) for a good 6 or 7 hours of non stop rain and it soaked through in the end with my base layer being that wet I may aswell not have had it on. Wasn't impressed as it has been great before. Although the rain was relentless and not much wind. Anyway if you can recommend the Rab jacket you use or the ME ones would be very appreciative 🙏🏼 Sorry you didn't have the best views for most of your adventure but glad you got some little glimpses. That second night was a bit of a mad one, saw it on Paul's vid too. Suppose one benefit is at least you put that new tent through some mental conditions! Looks like you all had a great adventure though and thank you very much as always for all of of tremendous effort with sharing it with us!! I know how hard / awkward some of that might have been too thanks as always. Really hope you're good mukka and look forward to the next one 😃😊👍🏻🙏🏼 ATB.... Chris 🤜🏻💚🤛🏻 p.s. love the little touch with memory to HM The Queen at the end 🙏🏼 Especially as she adored Scotland ❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

@@AndrewBeavers Haha yeah it is a bit of a mission up there like. I'm off for two weeks after next week and hoping to get upto Scotland then myself if I can and divert to the Lakes on the way back. Hope you get to smash a few more over the years to come 💪🏼💯 It does look like a superb tent for sure. Thanks foe the advice on the Rab jacket, I've been very impressed with everything I've ever had from Rab so just ordered one. The one I was going to get didnt have my size so got the new Rab Latok Extreme GTX for Autumn 2022 🤣🤣 way more than I was expecting to spend and more of a jacket than I'll probably need like lol but thought sod it it'll be worth it and at least I know I'll have a brilliant jacket now with the performance. Gonna try and find some bad weather on purpose now to use it 🤣🤣 Once again absolutely loved it as always. Hope you enjoy the weekend to come or your next days off 😊👍🏻🙏🏼 ATB mukka

Very enjoyable viewing Andy. I traced your route on the map and it looked very interesting. There really is nowhere quite like Scotland....even if the weather is pretty grim at times. I'm probably being a bit unfair on other places but sometimes I feel a bit short-changed when I compare the landscapes of Northern England to there. I just wish it was bloody closer! Love the Voyager when it's pitched but not sure about the inner first pitching. I understand that tents that pitch the inner first tend to be far less flappy and quiet, and that the semi geodesic design will be very stable. Does the inner dry out very quickly if you are forced to pitch in the pouring rain?
@AndrewBeavers
@AndrewBeavers Жыл бұрын
tbh gordon i think folk overthink the inner pitch first pitching..never had any bother with it myself tbh..if its raining ill hold off till theres a dry spell to pitch..
@Gordonafloat
@Gordonafloat Жыл бұрын
@@AndrewBeavers I decided to get a voyager and the pitching actually turns out to be really quick and easy. I think the reality of pitching in heavy rain is that quite a lot of water would get in the tent even if it was an outer first pitch. As you say, in most situations it's possible to wait until the rain stops. I like being able to easily pack the flysheet separately which would be not as easily done with a fly first tent. So far I'm well pleased with the Voyager which is a big step up from my Robens Starlight 2.
