STORY FIVE: It's not so bad being single: 10 things I've come to love about my life

I spent many years frustrated that I was single. I held the very incorrect belief that I couldn't be happy on my own. And unfortunately, that left me feeling awful at times. Today, I am single. And it's not necessarily by choice. It's just where I find myself.
But as with so many things in life, I've found that perspective is EVERYTHING.
Rather than focusing on what I don't have, I make an effort to appreciate the positives that come with being single. Interestingly, every thing I count as a positive, could also be viewed as a negative!
So it's up to me to see the positive.
If I were married, I'd make the exact same video about the positive things that come with marriage.
Every situation has its negatives and positives. It's up to each of us to focus on the good in our lives.
Thank you for stopping by! I hope that you enjoy this video. Whether you're single or not ... please tell me ... what are you grateful for today?

I’ve been single since I was 53 I am now 62 it’s going on 10 years and I don’t mind being single I didn’t want to be with a man because there were no good men out there there are so many that are on drugs now so many that don’t wanna work now they would rather sit and play video games or drink or sleep till four in the afternoon and stay up all night I am a morning person I get up at 5:30 6 o’clock I start my day I have my coffee and I watch the sun come up I surround myself with beauty and peace there’s no screaming no yelling no fighting over money I shop when I want to and I eat what I like I go to bed at 9o’clock I am I am able to do whatever I want without having to ask someone’s permission I clean my dishes I keep my house clean I don’t have to worry about doing someone else’s laundry or buying someone else’s clothes or picking up after someone else I have two dogs and two cats and they are my friends and my company I do not miss being with a man...Adult companionship Is usually with my friends most of them women I do have male friends but some of them no I do not want to be with a man and some of them keep Asking me why I won’t go out with them on a date I don’t need a man I really don’t I don’t need the kind of relationship they offer I’m a strong independent woman and I don’t need someone to make me feel good

After 18 years of marriage, my biggest one? Not having that stupid tv as the center of our entire home. It's gone! I can create, in peace. I can face my furniture towards the outside and not some black hole in the wall. I can sip my coffee and let my 4 cats lounge around, in silence and happiness.

I'm very happy being single,I'm not sure why a large percentage of people assume you can only be happy if you have a partner, personally I couldn't find anything further from the truth. I have always been happier being alone for some reason and although I've been married and done all that, honestly as sad as it may sound, they actually weren't the happier times of my life looking back. The saying not all that wonder are lost best suits me.😊

Thank you! That was so lovely... I left a toxic work environment years ago and went into a state of isolation that was initially horribly empty and lonely. Then, little by little, I started to give myself the love and care that I was needing. Now I'm so healthy and strong and more beautiful than I have ever been. So much so that I'm amazed by the difference in how I look and feel compared to the sick and defeated soul that I was. I think most women get used up by the time they are my age. Hubands, children and work can of course fulfill you, but they can also drain all of your juice. I see exhausted women around me all the time. I see very few marriages I would envy. I don't tell my age any more because more than once I've seen a look of absolute horror on the face of someone who thought I was so much younger than them. The bad news is...I've got no one to love but myself. The good news is, I've got no one to love but myself. Even if that changes, I will always be grateful for the renewal my time alone has given me...

I'm happily married to a wonderful man and we have 5 grown up children, only one at home now so life is pretty quiet compared to years ago! We celebrate 40 years together next March. I think you can be just as happy and fulfilled with or without a partner or children, there are pros and cons to everything, it's just about how you view things and what you do with your time/life. You definitely have more "freedom " without children but it boils down to what you want/need/value I guess. You look to have a great quality of life re your cottage, location and lifestyle and dogs always make life sweeter of course. TFS x

I identified with this so much. As someone who lives in 600ft of a cottage, I have no room for anyone else, and honestly, I’ve worked so hard to create a space that defines me (after many years of living for others and not even knowing or acknowledging who I was) I really don’t want anyone else here. I’ve learned to love being alone so much that I crave it. I do what I want, when I want and if I change my mind and don’t want, who cares. Is it perfect? Nope. But for now , it’s what I need and I respect that .

I have been single for nearly 4 years I bought a tiny van and started making videos of my adventures and my love of nature too. I think creativity is one of the things that has deepened even more since being single plus I have started to travel abroad too on my own which I never thought I would be able to do. I met so many lovely people travelling and I have just booked another trip to go somewhere else. As a woman alone you can travel where ever you want to. I feel the world has opened up again. I am 56 years old, life is short and we have to follow our hearts calling and live life to the full and creating a beautiful home as you have and seeing the beauty of the earth all around you has given you immense healing. Nature is medicine for sure. This earth is a beautiful place, live life as a daring adventure !!

What beautiful videos and I LOVED the theme of this one so much!! I was miserably married for 23 years and finally gained my freedom. The word 'divorce' doesn't come near to expressing the blissful joy I've had getting to know me and discover my own world. Of course there are sad and hard times, but they serve to strengthen us. Thank you for sharing this with us!!!

Divorcing my abuser not only made me happy, it made me healthier. My doctor told me that I had a choice, and staying with him to die from asthma was not the best option. I'm not cured, but the only time I've been to the ED since I left was when I fell on the stairs and hurt my ankle. People ask when I'm going to start dating, and I tell them maybe in a few more years.

I agree with all 10, but 1 exception. You cannot love your dog too much. A few years back, my brother told his son, which got back to me, that he though I was weird because I loved my dogs too much. I was born to love all animals with endless love. I was made this way, and you were too. The flowers toward the end are beautiful.

I agree 110% ! I've been married twice, and have been single since 2006, and I am more happy just being on my own than I ever was with a partner. I've come to realize that not everyone has to "partner up" with someone, some of us need to wander this world alone. Your list of 10 things is spot on. I love your little cottage and I LOVE all your cute dresses!! They look so comfy! ☺

There have been times when I was married. Now I am single again. He moved on with another woman whom is not disabled like me. It seems as if the saying "forever, until death do we part", has no meaning today. Yet starting over at nearly 60 years of age is so freeing. It feels so good the pets and I. There is no one bashing, complaining about us. We can walk out in nature daily enjoying the good life. We see the smallest things to enjoy. The red mushrooms, the wild flowers, the ancient oaks and pine trees. I can focus on my hobbies freely. There is no one monitoring, questioning what I am doing when I watch peaceful video blogs like this. Life is blissful now. My air is pure as the house plants clean it. I am thriving. It feels so good, so freeing, so peaceful. I don't feel ashamed to sing out loud and I do often. Life is amazing. Yes, I do decorate to my taste totally now. I had no power before, no freedoms, no say in life. Being alone can be a blessing. Though pets make life more wonderful. They are soulmates and protectors.

This video brought tears to my eyes! What a perfectly lovely life and home you have cultivated for you and sweet little Charlie. I find myself involuntarily single (widowed) for just over a year with one grown up child, a young teenager, 3 aging kitties, and a growing collection of plant allies. It has been quite a year of healing, shedding, rebuilding, moving, evolving, and discovering myself in this new season of life. I'm proud of you, from one Hudson Valley gal to another, cheers! I will be single soon. My husband is only 58 and I am 70. My days are filled with cleaning him, feeding him, I do EVERYTHING on my own. Life has sucked for 5 years now. Because of all of his poor choices he has Renal failure and must do Dialysis 3 times a week, he also has diabetes. I am living a nightmare full of poo and snot. Oh yes and he has had 5 stokes too so he now is in stage 3 of vascular dementia. He wont walk, he can't wipe himself and he can't talk. I think he will be loosing his right leg and then I am done being his caretaker, nurse, cleaning lady and cook. If he wasn't so nasty and mean I might be able to go on longer taking care of him, but he is only getting worse. I have always been happy being alone. I don't know how I will make it on my own, but maybe I can smile again. I am in an association down in Fort Myers Florida, so I can't have a garden or grow my own herbs. I used to love growing tomatoes, herbs and more. But that was before the association living. Thanks for sharing your twirls in the garden. That's me in my own head... Twirling.

Hi Sally, I just wanted to tell you you are a wonderful person! And you are strong! Doing all of the things for your partner while he is so miserable and unthankful is telling me, you have a big heart. I know it is not easy! Take care of yourself! If you still love him, get help for both of you. If not, help yourself. You deserve to be happy! With or without him.

This was a beautiful reminder of why being alone is not a negative thing. I spent much of my life alone, travelling, living abroad & really getting to know who I was & what fulfilled me. I now share my life with a beautiful man who loves nature as much as I do & we happily co-exist in a tiny outdoor living space with our dog, chickens & gardens. You certainly don’t need a partner to be happy but if you spend time alone, as you say, then if you do find someone you have such a better insight into who complements you & your lifestyle.

Beautiful! And yes, time for myself was missing bitterly in my longest relationship (when he chose another „woman“ younger than his firstborn I stepped out). Now I dearly appreciate all of those things: I savour living MY life, my speed, my hobbies, my laziness, my favourite dishes (or just a piece of fruit), my decoration, my colours, my peace and my silence. Yes, silence whenever I feel like was missing so much. Stormy greetings from Ireland, and thank you for sharing those reflections!

I just found your channel tonight (11/15/22), and I love it! At 70, I am single, but I've learned to enjoy the solitude, the ability to do what I want to do. I was married the first time at 17. My husband passed away in 2001, at age 52. I was a widow at 49, and had been married my entire life. Three years later I married a long time friend. We had a wonderful marriage, until he decided he would rather be alone.....Gah, the man was 75 at the time!!! I have been emotional for 4 years now since his leaving, but within the last year, I'm snapping out of it, and don't think I would ever consider marriage again. Sometimes what we think will last forever just doesn't. There are challenges to being alone, but I finally know ME! Imagine that! I always lived for someone else, doing everything possible to make others happy. Now I make myself happy! New subscriber from NE Georgia.

Being single is not a bad thing. And certainly better than being with the wrong person. I’ve been both but am once again single as my soul mate and husband of 33 years passed away… it’s been a hard transition…no doubt…learning to be a “Me” instead of a “We”, but there definitely is a freedom that comes with being single. And now I am embracing that freedom each and every day. Not sure there would ever be room in my heart or life for anyone else….Many Blessings sweetie.

I just discovered your videos a few days ago. I absolutely love them. I really like this one as well. The big takeaway from this is that YES single women have time to think their own thoughts and do their own things. I have been single for a while-I really like to go and do what I want to do. There is an unspoken rule of couplehood "I will let the other person know where I am going" in essence asking if you can go and do. I love singlehood for that exact reason. I would be so less as a person without the ability to think about and work on my goals and dreams. There is a greater amount of home making and caring for others that women do when they have "others". That extra work takes you away from your thoughts, goals and dreams; so yes single people get more done in their lives for themselves. Your wisdom on the value of getting to live in a peaceful home is so wonderful too. It's like slow death and dying a million times a day to live with someone that is gumptionless, mean, negative, verbally abusive, whinny or that makes horrible noises constantly. Especially if you live with someone that is forever belittling your ideas or making you question your ideas. I love being single (yes in the past I was married and I raised my daughter). I do occasionally wish I had a dance partner but I don't want to take him home with me, or be required to feed him or wash his clothes. Blessings sweet lady your videos are beautiful and inspiring.

#6 is for me one of the most important things I enjoy about being single. I agree with everything you said. I no longer have to cook if I don’t feel like it. And, I only make the recipes I enjoy when I do cook. I decorate to please myself and for the first time in my life, I’m totally pleased with what I’ve done. I come and go where I please and don’t have to worry about rushing home for any reason. I enjoy being with friends and we’re able to be spontaneous. Yes, single life is good.

I think it's fabulous being single. It's what I've chosen for myself. I haven't dated by choice since I was divorced. I would enjoy being single for the rest of my life because I love it. I feel fulfilled and am happy having freedom and the time to do what I desire. I know that one day I'll remarry because I've dreamed about it for years and was told intuitively that I would be happier married. So be it. Until then, I'm as happy as can be. We don't need a partner to be happy or fulfilled. We can learn to give our self the love and nurturing we need. It may not be easy for many to make it on a single income. But God is our provider, not man. We can do anything we set our mind to and have faith to do. But if you desire to marry, I believe with the desire is the ability to manifest it. See it, affirm it, believe it. Then let go and be happy until it's time for change.

All that being said, I wish I could introduce you to my nephew. He is 33, ex marine, gentle soul, strong work ethic, loves animals and nature, disheartened that so many young women have lost the love of life, that so many are into partying and have different morals than he, that so many have seemingly lost the love of God and country. A truly gentle, handsome, kind man not willing to compromise his goal of finding that one woman meant for him. He lives in Nashville for now. You two would be a great match ❤❤

I am single and have been for approx two years. I am almost 60 and I'm finally becoming who I really am. I like my own place and my solitude but also being social out with people and friends. When I was married I assumed the other person was going to fill in the little holes I had in my being. But that didn't happen. I have never did online dating and doubt I ever will because that isn't inline with who I am. What I struggle with currently is just not having a person who truly knows me and fixes stuff and gives good foot rubs!

Lovely video! 🥰 I believe it's not up to someone else to make us happy. If you can't be happy with the person you spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with then you can't be happy coupled up. Self care is so important whether alone or in a relationship. I have been blissfully living a lovely life on my own for many years. Like you, not by choice. I thought the person I was with would want forever but it doesn't always work out for everyone. If it does, never take it for granted. Live your best life where you are, you never know how long it will be. I've just discovered your channel. A truly beautiful place to visit. Thank you for sharing such a sacred space 🙏 I'll be back 😁😍

I’ve been with my partner for 15 years and I have a longing to be single. I also live with my youngest son as well who’s 27. Most of the things you’ve listed I can do but it’s the self -growth I struggle with because I’m always worried about my partner and son if I go and concentrate on myself, I feel selfish, which is wrong I know. The bit where you’ve always got a peaceful home sounds wonderful, there’s always something going off in our home, drama and stuff. I do envy your life 🙏

I just love your videos. They bring so much peace and joy to my heart❤ And I can relate so wholeheartedly. I've always been alone but never lonely - I am surrounded by what makes me happy, i.e. my cat, music and nature. I'm an introvert and sometimes it can be exhausting being around other people. Alot of times I can't wait to get to the peacefulness of my surroundings and decompress. I recently bought my own little cottage and can't wait to decorate it the way I envision it. Many thanks to you for sharing your life with us. It truly is inspiring. Peace and blessings.

I think relationships in a shared space are extremely difficult. After years of hoping to meet the "right" person, I finally gave that up. I'm totally content remaining single, and I've decided that if I ever do meet someone, we'll need to have separate residences and separate finances. That way, each of us can share experiences with each other but we won't have to give up all those things you referred to in your video that you love about being single.

For many of us, we were brainwashed, from a very young age, you needed to be married, with kids, to be happy. That is not true, in 2023. You can be who you want to be, how you want to be. You get to decide what you need to be happy. Happiness, is in the eye of the beholder.

I am married, we just celebrated our 36th anniversary on the 24th of August. I am so thankful for the love that God has given to us. We have our own home, a nice little white car and pets that are always making life easier and sometimes a little crazy.

I am married but have been 5 years single with 4 kids and there is definitively challenges and happy/sad times being single or married. There is not a perfect spot for sure so, yes, we need to embrace it and life the best out of being single or married. There are good and bad sides on both situations.

Living with someone means your time isn’t all yours, but really nothing is and sharing a place with someone would have to be someone that is honest and appreciate who you are totally so you both can live in harmony. But finding someone these days honest, well.☺️ Maybe that was also a problem in my grandma’s day and I am an older person so, she used to have a saying, ‘Better off alone, that in bad company’. I heard recently about a study done with elderly widowed women how they were doing and felt? Did they feel lonely? No!The majority said, they felt free. So there you go, take that with a grain of salt as the saying goes. ☺️💗

This was beautiful to watch and read. I loved your positivity. There is always a choice how we look at things. I will take positive any day. And having my own space. I think it is a shame we are taught to 'need' partners. It is far more important to understand your own strengths. And as you concluded, then if someone does come along you know you can take the time to see if the person is truly right for you.

If you ever do get married just be sure it is someone who values the same things as you. Opposites tend to attract but it is not smooth sailing. My husband and are are introverts, nature lovers, artistic. We both understand the need to be alone. I have an art studio where I spend a lot of time. He goes fishing. We have been married 48 years.

Everytime i thought it would be nice to have someone to share my life with i realize i would have to give up so much of myself, the thing that i would never feel ready for. I would like to know myself better and to enlarge my vision toward life so it will be burdensome to think about these things while you need to understand another entity

I like your attitude. I have done a lot of things in life, taken care of a lot of people beginning at about 3-4 years of age. Fast forward. I've been a widow now for just over 9 years and though I miss him I'm happy to be on my own with a wee chihuahua. I'm free in every way to explore the me that isn't care taking, learning to love myself finally. I love your little cottage and your Charlie and your dresses.

I love your videos. I’m married but my husband allows me to do whatever I want with my life & our home without compromising, he says seeing my filled & happy brings him so much joy. I’ve ever taken 5 solo trips abroad this year. I take long walks on my own, we enjoy hiking with family so we do that together. We enjoy grabbing a meal together once a month or so and we do that together. I’m so grateful for the life I live. I love making home ♥️ That salad at 4:30 minutes into the video looks Devine. Is there a recipe for that please 🙏🏽
