Caught up with Lachy at Kendall on the last day. Knew him from when he used to race in Taree and Port. Was saying to a mate driving home that I felt strangely emotional. Then it dawned on me. For those of us who love cycling it is an incredible achievement to ride around Australia, let alone set the bar so high for anyone attempting to beat the record in the future. My mate said to me he had the same feeling driving home after the men's road race at Wollongong in 2022 because who knows when you next get to see Remco, MVP, Pogi, Sagan, Wout and co race.

What an amazing achievement by LM! If that doesn’t inspire you to get on your bike, nothing will. Another beautiful video Rob. 👍🏼👍🏼

As articulate as I am, I don't have the words to adequately describe how inspirational Lachlan is and should be to everyone, especially Aussie kids! In March, my wife and I flew into Christchurch airport around 10.30pm enroute to Queenstown for a week of gravel riding and low and behold, I looked up and there was Lachlan sitting on a couch chatting to another cyclist. Despite being a week before my 62 birthday, I was as excited as a kid in a candy shop! My dear wife said "Go on over and say hi" but even tho' I've been a big fan for years, marvelling at his incredible challenges, I didn't want to bother him. And now having spent the last month watching him smash the around Oz record, of course, regret not listening to my wife. By all accounts, Lachlan's a nice, decent guy, down to earth, no ego, friendly and role model to boot for Aussie kids. And the fact that he's used his record breaking ride to raise no doubt, much needed funds to help our Indigenous kids in remote areas of our amazing continent...good on you, Lachlan. Stay healthy, stay upright and stay safe!

Thank you for this, Rob. I wasn't able to get out and see him despite living just down the road from Taylor Square as I was preparing for a flight away. Great to see him ride through the neighbourhood! What an achievement this is! Regarding your direction, I'm keen to see what you do next. I'd happily watch/listen to you talk about anything to do with cycling, and I enjoy your philosophical musings.

30 odd years ago a team of us club cyclist broke the Around Australia team record. During the planning it was found there wasn't actually a standard route, so you could do 12000km or 20000km and claim a record. We submitted our route and a basic rule book to Cycling Qld and the Guiness book of records. Lots of years of banging the drum, a laughable offer from RAAM to make the Lap a qualifier for their race ( I told them that if this ever became a thing then RAAM should be a qualifier for The Lap, never heard from them again) I truly believed Dave Alley's record would stand for decades. Then I got a call from Lachy Davis at RRAA to say Lachy Morton was planning a crack. To say I was happy that day is a huge understatement. To think this means so much to so many people is humbling. Thankyou all. Thank you so much Lachy Morton.

Wonderful ride! Was wondering why he didn’t complete the lap and ride around Tassie. Would have been great to see him down here….

Lachlan is an inspiration to us all, but I bailed half way through this clearly IT’S ALL ABOUT ME video. My fault. I’d forgotten how self obsessed you are Rob.

Oh Mike, so sorry about that. How about we try this then: you give me a call and we can have a chat about your frustrations and then, in the next video on my KZbin channel, I'll make sure the Story Of My Ride is all about you. Sound fair? - Rob
