Oh my goodness it must be a NC thing! I moved here two years ago and I was completely baffled at the workers. They never came when they said they would and then they just stop by unannounced and I either wasn’t home or I was home alone and wouldn’t answer the door. One ask my husband if I was paranoid bc I would never let him in when he stopped by. My husband was like we live in a world where we honor appointments and we except workers to come on the day and time you say, we aren’t friends you don’t just stop by! Effing idiots!

Grant Kindness This doesn’t just happen in NC. I have had the same treatment in CA. These “handymen” just can’t seem to get it together and honor their commitments. Your only alternative is to go thru LOWES or Home Depot and pay an arm and a leg, which you don’t want to do. At the end, if you added up all the wasted time, and frustration, Loews would look cheap, BUT you don’t know that at the beginning of your little project.....😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬

same in Wi-have had a lawn kid-as he was a kid... started out fine-then he stopped communicating(and came by 2 days after I mowed the lawn myself, as I hadn't heard from him). so he fired himself(as it turns out it runs in the family-his father starts projects and doesn't finish them either). Unreliable snow removal people(one of whom is always recommended by a neighbor-call "jeff". I finally told the person what happened when I hired "jeff" for snow removal. They said they didn't know. Well of course, no one is going to admit they are unreliable and that you shouldn't recommend them. Only people you can rely upon are "professionals" and sometimes family-sometimes
@kamisa7362
@kamisa7362 4 жыл бұрын
Sometimes It's probably best to just get a real professional, or at least find someone with good ratings, a good track record and standards. Self proclaimed "Handymen" aren't always handy or reliable, and can be more unprofessional than anything. Not all handymen are on the same level.

Bless your heart, Mary. Being a single woman is tough. I thought i would never find someone to help me finish building my elliptical machine. Finally, I called my dad, and he drove 2 hrs to help me finish it. On the other hand, now that my fiance is in the picture, waiting months for him to fix stuff, then being expected to praise him for an hour, afterward, is frustrating. Should we start a handy woman service, to help gals like us?? Calling all handy women!!

I just kept thinking about that Jerry Seinfeld show on Netflix called "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" and Mary's version would be "Dudes in Trucks Staring at Sinkholes." 😉 Also, damn those so-called handymen to Hades! That's my biggest pet peeve, the "Oh, yeah, I'll be there" jags and the never-apology when they don't show up, but then somehow miraculously call you back. We'd get the "lazy beyotch" moniker if us gals pulled the same crap. Grrrrrr......😡🤬

A couple years ago I moved into my new house and within a month they started MAJOR roadwork behind my house. The streets were partially blocked during the day, but at night they *really* went to work. Their giant spotlight shined straight into my bedroom window and the damn jackhammers were nonstop. This went on for a year straight. It’s embarrassing but I definitely went a little “Karen” at one point lol 😂

yep, everyone knows someone who's "great" & you should call them. Me-it was a snow removal guy-shoveled slush(it wasn't supposed to freeze the next day) and then when I needed him to show up(so I could get to work!) he had snow blower trouble and then "had to go to the hospital for chest pain". He had the nerve to ask when snow removal season was done if I needed lawn care... um no. I don't know what the F is so damn difficult about being reliable & show up when you say you will. Don't even get me started on the shady lady(who I should have known better) that i started out with for snow removal(she fired me as a client as I pointed out she was changing the VERBAL agreement we made and that it may be better to put these agreements in writing-you know, cut down on confusion and misunderstanding).

Ha, I'm late to the party with this video as I had a crazy few days. I ended up finally listening to it tonight when I was trying to go over some college work. I burst out laughing when you mentioned PeeWee's Playhouse. This entire situation was the definition of a fiasco. It was so crazy that I eventually couldn't stop laughing and turned all my attention to the video. Mary, I'm thinking that maybe all these guys are secretly in love with you and just want to see you again so were keeping this "threshold" thing going as long as possible. Thank goodness you could laugh at it and thanks for sharing...this made my day! 😂

Sadly this doesn't just happen in the US. I'm in the UK and have just waited 3 weeks to find an electrician who can come to put a new bathroom light in. Familiar story with 'oh yes, I'll look up the parts and call you back.' then never heard of again. After 3-4 of these and a couple of 'too busy/too small a job' excuses, friend of our handy man came out and did it in an hour with 2 days notice. This is just one example of the problems with workmen I've had in the last 2 years prepping a house for sale and making improvements in the new one. I deeply feel your pain. I also am with you on the point this is their job and they need the money so how can they operate a business this way without starving?

PS if this ever happens again, I can recommend a guy called Jamie who is a carpet fitter, who fixed our threshold when same thing happened. He's reliable and works cash in hand. The only slight snag is that he lives in Plymouth, Devon (UK) so you'll have to weigh up whether you think the airfare and accommodation cost would be worth it. Sounds like it possibly might!!
