Hi, I’m Sue-Ann, one of the producers on this episode of ST CloseUp. Thank you for watching. Scammers have become a plague in modern society - and our team set out over the last three months to understand what makes them so effective in swindling the public. Please share this video, so that we can raise awareness and help stop others from being scammed. If you have any questions, leave a comment below, and we will do our best to answer. Don’t forget to subscribe to the ST KZbin channel as well, for more investigative pieces such as this one.

Hi Sue-Ann, thank you and your team for producing this! It was a very insightful video raising the awareness about how anyone may be potentially vulnerable to getting scammed. Could I suggest that ST create a separate channel for investigative works such as this, similar to how CNA has its CNA Insider channel? This would help viewers to sieve out investigative/commentary pieces from videos covering the normal day to day news cycle. 😃

Victims are very lonely people. Often they ignore obvious signs, that makes them vulnerable. Not all scammers are smart, they are just are high tech trained. Victims react quickly to good looking guys and boost their self esteem, so women wants to believe what scammers tell them, because it made them feel good. Once the scammers realise women ignore serious signs, that's when the devil got hold of them.

And some of the most ''trustworthy'' , polite, intelligent and educated people can end up scamming you and playing with your feelings. Yes, she may be too naive to be deceived in the first place. But is she not worthy to be loved? to be shown concerned? to wish to have someone who genuinely cares about her? It is the bad guys that use all kinds of tricks to trick her and make use of her vulnerability. You never know what would you do or how you would respond if you are in her situation, in her emotional state and soft personality. Some of us are fortunate enough to be able to learn from other people's mistakes so we don't fall into the trap, but that doesn't mean we can criticise or laugh at on the victim's 'foolishness' or irrationality.

Years ago, there was a viral video clip of a girlfriend berating her boyfriend in a train in Beijing. She was filmed yelling, "A man without money is garbage." I thought it was sad that she thought that way. But for women who may fall victim to scammers, they should remember that if your new boyfriend needs money from you, he is garbage.

When you meet someone only for a short time and they ask for money, that is already a sign for you to beware And stop fooling yourself believing you need someone to make you happy and complete. Happiness is a state of.being, a state of mind only you can realize. Happiness is something you source from within and not outside yourself. Single or not, you can be happy.

I've seen a lot of these videos and a lot of the victims were religious. Not trying to say religious people are gullible but they do tend to put faith into something they can't see or touch in person. Living a life being skeptical of everything does have its downside but a moment of vulnerability can lead to one's downfall

Every romance victim states how wonderful the conversations were with their scammer! All I read is “I love you, I want to marry you, have you eaten/slept?” And then the money shots! There’s absolutely no depth to these conversations, they don’t even remember the victims name’s, hence babe or queen! The thing is, no victim is stupid. Scammers use "gate" cause by scars most of the time ! They use kowledge of how the mind work to trick people. It's like saying to someone that "you are weak because you lose against a boxer" when you yourself doesn't even know how to correctly throw a punch but even so have great power in your arm, the only difference is one have knowledge. Generally those people have a small insight of depth on how tricks work. I never got scammed and none of my entourage also but i really hope people will get better and healed from such evilness.

In case anyone finds himself/herself in a similar situation, the first thing to do is to see a psychiatrist about her loneliness. Spending money on a psychiatrist to talk to is far more worthy than being scammed.
I've come across too many stories of people being scammed or almost scammed, strangers, friends. A friend was all ready to buy a wedding dress, a ring - to be paid by the 'groom' suppossedly. A recent experience shared by someone was of a guy she befriended online. Everything was fine at first....into the 4th month, guy shares his daughter had a health issue and he needed money urgently. His health insurance expired, he's away on an oil rig somewhere...could she lend him some money? He promised to pay every cent. I said never believe anyone who asks for money - loan, advance, whatever. She blocked him, end of story...lucky to escape being prey to scam, fraud, whatever. Be very careful everyone, always watch for red flags.

That's like buying the Brooklyn Bridge from a stranger whom is thousands of mile away. As mean as it sounds, these tactic only works on people with little or none common sense on "certain" aspect of life. These aren't seniors who may not understand the new world, these victims are often adults in their 20-40 with a real job, you would think they could make better judgement in life.
