There are many selfless, loving people in our world who are willing to take action for the benefit of the most helpless, most innocent among us. Sadly, the media almost NEVER features these merciful angels. So I am forever grateful to The Dodo. May God bless you. For YOU are an angel too.💕🙏💕

I remember there were a few news companies that did experiments of showing only positive news for a time period, but it didn't work and their profits heavily plummeted. So nowadays most news companies simply show what most people would prefer to see/perceive of the world...rather than all the actual good that's happening in the world. So in a sense the money always goes where the mindset of common people goes. And as long as the majority of peoples' mindsets are still more negative/fearful than positive, you can't really expect positive news to be more widespread, due to the higher market demand for negative perceptions towards the world.

My son and I were in Daytona Beach a few years ago, and when we were out jumping waves, a surfer yelled, “Ma’am! I don’t want to scare either of you, but there is a manatee right beside you!” I looked down, and there was this humongous lady looking right at us. She lingered next to us for a few minutes, before heading towards the inlet. It was a wonderful experience I will always cherish. 🥰

I live in Largo, about 5 mins from Clearwater Marine Aquarium. I've been on multiple occasions (my daughter LOVES going! ) The people who work there are pretty amazing ❤ And my heart goes out to them. Losing Winter has got to be extremely hard for them. She inspired and touched people all over the world. But to have been by her side for so many years... it's tough to lose an animal that you're so close with. 😥

Dear Dodo. This manatee was NOT rescued by a bulldozer, she was rescued by Nicole Bartlett and the construction workers. I get that a title helps bring more subs, but at over 10 million subs, don't you think that over-hyped and sensational titles are a thing of the past? Thank you Nicole Bartlett and the construction workers (who had the bulldozer there) for saving this manatee!!!!
@catswellthecat7855
@catswellthecat7855 2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s implied that you need a team to operate the bulldozer. The video does an fine job of praising the team, but with an animal that large, they needed some form of machinery to get it out. Bulldozing the water over to the manatee is a really unique way of rescuing it, as mentioned by Nicole.

Pardon me, but do you not think that having such a long tracker trailing her could cause her problems if it get's caught on all those nasty fishing lines abandoned in the water? You actually made it harder for her to survive. By now you have tracked many so do you really need to tag more? Their patterns are pretty well established by now one would think?

Do you think someone would make something that would endanger a animal that they care enough about to want to study? FYI they need permission from an ethics committee right back at the planing stage of any study. Every aspect of the methodology is examined by people who are trained to think about the effect on the subject,the environment, research staff, the institutions image and a massive list of other things. In my personal experience getting past the ethics committee is a lot harder than it needs to be. Some members pride themselves on being the only person involved that "really cares". Luckily they have all been educated people with a rational back ground. 🙄 Having now worked with 3 scientist building their equipment I can tell you the tether and harness will have a weak point that is designed to fail. I would expect the harness to have a part that will fail after a set time period, just in case the electronics stuff fails and then it will come free. It's now a requirement that recovery of the equipment is routine. In the past we were able to allow it to come off and float away 😯. All of this information is available for you to check online. And "do you really need to track more?"is just a crazy question. You really didn't think that one through.
@Aarticqn
@Aarticqn 2 жыл бұрын
@@kiwibob223 Ok, so if the ethics committee ok'd the long trailing tracker, just how did they suggest that entanglements will be dealt with? How long can a manitee hold it's breath under water? how will you know it is in distress and will you arrive in time to rescue it? I bet they don't have answers for those questions. No my question isn't crazy about the tracking. They know their migratory routes already, on or more could divert for reasons unknown even if they are tracked. Ethics comittees have Ok'd all kinds of gruesome animal testing and research in the name of science.
@kiwibob223

@@Aarticqn did you register the fact that I have built scientific research equipment? I can tell you without doubt the harness will break away with a force many many times less than would keep a 200 + lb creature under water. IT IS MADE TO BREAK EASILY. We put RFI trackers on critically endangered bats to enable us to find their home roost and protect it from logging and rat predation. Little tiny bats no bigger than your palm. That is still going on till today (19 years later)as we have protected them so well that they are expanding their territory for the first time in over 50 years. Trust this loving woman that has spent decades studying and working for these animals. She wouldn't hurt them anymore than you would.

@@kiwibob223 Stop trying to talk down to me for one. I didn't miss your point. But I see you didn't provide any answers to my questions. Please do bore me with the figures/data to show how much force is needed? Many times less means nothing to me! It can get snagged and the animal will roll around in the net getting bound up before it snaps. How have you safety tested this in a mock scenario? Or are you talking from a position of supposition and guessing?
