This is a gem. Modern Hollywood needs to take note that even a used premise can have originality while using limited cast and sets. The waitress was essentially no one yet I still enjoyed even the bit characters. The story itself is still pertinent. I've long been saying that humanity doesn't have the maturity to deal with our tech advances, and I still see it in today's news. Also, our governments have not been particularly worthy of trusting. By those points alone modern Hollywood wouldn't go near this premise.

This is the best thing I've seen in a very long time ! Not to mention just like current times, only crunchy with a bunch of lies. Look at the date of the movie .... we're repeating it again. And yet, it could have been made yesterday except for the old cars and tech. Thank you, this has been a reconfirming truth moment. 🙏💜

I was hoping for an ending where the Venusian and Patricia Neal's character realize they're in something approximating love, she asks to come back with him, and he reminds her of the atmospheric difference in planets. But then there's a, "But maybe there is a way, on the way back and continuing on Venus we can adapt your respiratory system as I adapted mine for Earth." The Earth folks then find something of hers at the site where the Venusian was picked up by his craft and realize she went back with him.

This film is made three years after.'The Day the Earth Stood Still', one of the great si-fi films of all time.' The. ' Stranger from Venus'. takes the same idea of the earlier film and shuffles the story a bit. 'Stranger has a much simpler budget but manages that problem extremely well. Helmut Dantine does a fine believable job as an alien. Patricia Neal, a lead character in both films is extraordinary as usual. Although the direction is not perfect it is very well done. The ending, of which we are given some forewarning, is beautifully, poetically done, with that stroke of genius I forget all the other small flaws the director may have made. All in all this is quite a fine film, a good print, and most enjoyable....and please watch this is it's original Black and White which this print is. It deserves to be seen that way.

I paused the film at that same moment. It feels to me as though the stranger’s planet of origin was changed from the first draft of the script at some point and this line somehow didn’t get caught. What if an extraterrestrial wanted to give an international press conference and nobody was allowed to come? It seems likely "Gretchen" was, in fact, an advance agent of the Venusians. Otherwise, her role seems to have no point in the movie. The symbolism of her praying to a lamp at the end of the film seems to have been overlooked as a giveaway. :)

Coming on the heels of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, this one could easily be dismissed as a straight up rip-off. However, there are some differences which take the story in a somewhat different direction. Less special effects and a bit more ephasis on personal relationship. Setting in England vs the USA. Less heavy handed treatment of the alien by ye olde brits. More pathos and poignant. ⭐⭐⭐ all night long and into the morning. Quite watchable. 👍

It opens with an American on the radio in the car & then someone gets table service in a pub! Just one of those things would be very, very strange but both? Nope! You'd die of thirst before anyone came to your table. If you just walk in & sit down it would be assumed you didn't want anything & were maybe waiting for someone before ordering. If you're not used to British pubs, just go straight to the bar & order a drink. Pay for it, & then go sit down. Easy 🍺

For all those who think this is simply fiction, it was the precog for what would occur in March of 1957 when a Venusian, named Valiant Thor, came to meet with leaders, Eisenhower at the Whitehouse and then other leaders at the UN over a 3- year period. Based on their abilities, it would be easy for them to plant this storyline to be made into a movie to soften human acceptance of them, raise awareness and get the message out of their true purpose. Note, this movie was "independently" made in 1954, 3 years later he arrives, staying for 3 years. Check it out for yourself. The proof is out there in books, articles, govt reports, photos, eyewitness accounts, etc.

PATRICIA NEAL CERTAINLY CAME DOWN A LOT, FROM STARRING WITH GARY COOPER IN 1949 TO A SCI FI MOVIE IN 1954.

So, starring in a sci-fi film implies coming down a lot? Maybe Patricia Neal knew something you don't. That is, an acting job is what you make of it, and the impact of a film can't always be predicted from its genre or budget.

cheap - derivative - predictable - most will find this film a waste of time - the only interesting thing about it is that patricia neal appeared both in this film and THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL - from which much of this is derived

人不犯我,我不犯人, 人若犯我,我必犯人. "Klaatu barada nikto" redux. Actually, this is a pretty good flick. The anti-nationalist message comes through loud and clear. Unfortunately, the immense majority of humanity is allowing the greenhouse gas chamber to fill as the ruling classes of the various nation States see their piles of wealth accumulate.

Fun fact... because of so much CO2 in the atmosphere, Venus is a lush jungle planet. Tarzan would feel right at home on Venus.
