I know nothing of Dune. Never read the books, never saw the Lynch movie, so I watched this with zero expectations. I came away stunned. two and a half hours felt like fifteen minutes. A genuine cinematic classic already.

Similar experience, I just saw it today and I wasn't sure what it would be like. It's gotten good reviews, but most I've seen really undersold it. That was one hell of a movie, the kind that doesn't come around very often. Huge budget, huge scale, and yet it was very well written, IMO, and even more than that it was made by a director who seems to know filmmaking and storytelling very well. There's a dreamlike feel to it, a balanced surrealism, and it has a real depth and majesty, like a massive, slow moving machine that takes great force to begin gaining speed, but once it's really going, it's impossible to stop. It was slow feeling for me, but utterly mesmerizing. I actually tend to prefer movies to be a little slower paced, so I'm definitely not saying that as a complaint. I'm looking forward to the next one, and I'm going to have to read the books.

@@annamiau8116 He has some visuals in BR2049 that are little easter eggs for fans of Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice. That's one of the reasons he reminds me of him. Fascinating. The scene at 13:00 is not in the film, but it appears to be later in the chronology of events than where the film ends. Denis has said that they did not film any material for the later part of the movie with the intention of using it in the beginning of part 2, but this looks like it's just that. Perhaps it's simply a cut scene and will never be seen.

I just saw this in theaters today and when it ended my reaction was : how was that two and a half hours?!? It was incredible. Can’t wait to see it again. I joked with my boyfriend: you wanna just go watch it again?😂 I really hope Denis releases an extended director’s cut! I’d love to see an even longer version and more behind the scenes. And so stoked for part 2!!!!!

As someone that played the computer games and watched the Lynch movie many times, and grew up on 80s and 90s sci-fy (star wars, etc), I can say this movie is a masterpiece. I did not want it to end. Looking forward to the continuation.

I don't think they could have done the casting for this any better. every character is portrayed perfectly by each actor that no matter what scene you are watching, you are fully captivated. this movie is by far my favourite movie I've ever watched, I'm obsessed.

I wouldn't mind watching 5 hours of dune or more, I just know I don't want it to end. I love the books but this movie adaptation is so good. Honestly one of the best movies I've ever watched. 😩

Dune 2021 is so much better than the older version with 'Sting'. Dune 2021 is so artfully done with visuals, the background music, colors in the film, direction and the actors themselves bring a clear understanding to this story. I have watched it twice... I want to watch it again. and can not wait for Dune part 2

In this day and age of a new Marvel movie every minute and prestige television where non-stop high quality visual effects are not only common place, but pretty much come at us in a constant, never-ending, mind-numbing barrage, it's hard to imagine someone making a film that truly makes visual effects feel special again. But then Dune happened and brought back the movie magic of bygone days. The days of Star Wars and Jurassic Park. In the movie world of Dune, everything feels completely tangible and real, familiar and yet unlike anything you've ever experienced before. But above all, every moment is utterly captivating. You can tell how much attention went into every detail. Denis Villeneuve has taken blockbuster cinema to new heights. And it's not just about him. He hired an amazing cast, crew, composer, you name it, and then he brought out the absolute best in every single one of them. The score is completely alien sounding and elevates every scene. The cinematography is picture perfect. The set design is incomparable. The innovation and attention to detail is next level. Few blockbusters double as prestige cinema, but Dune truly does. It's utterly engrossing whether you're a fan of the book, a hardcore cinema lover/snob, or merely a casual viewer who happened to wander in off the street on a whim.

What's awesome to see is that directors with huge nerdy passions for the characters and stories they really want to get involved with then getting to actually make the movies and then making them absolutely amazing. Peter Jackson was a huge Lord of the Rings nerd, John Favreau described himself as the biggest Iron Man fan. These Directors then do the best things with the properties they are assigned to, it's so impressive.

I hope when part 2 comes out, part 1 is rereleased in theatres so I can watch both one after the other in the big screen. Maybe a 30 minute break in between.
