They cut so many of Jason's scenes, i heard him describe one scene cut where he does a space dive from his ship onto the surface of Arrakis to find the fremen, then you see him alone for days in the desert trying to find them, you see a lot of what didn't make it with him in this video, Hopefully a directors cut or Dvd deleted scenes will show it. Amazing film 💯/💯

Cutting scenes is always most painful to the director. They often shoot amazing looking scenes that they are proud of, but if a scene doesn't serve the story, or disturbs the pacing it has to be let go of. But I too, hope that maybe there'll be an extended cut. :)
@WilliamPitcher
@WilliamPitcher 2 жыл бұрын
Denis Villeneuve has said the theatrical version is his director's cut. He said the only scene that was hard to cut was Josh Brolin singing as his character. Doesn't mean there won't be an extended edition, but Mr. Villeneuve talks about such things very differently than Peter Jackson did.

@@ruukaoz It’s also possible that some scenes just don’t turn out as good as they want once they’re shot and cut together, and they’re cut so as not to disrupt the quality of the film. It can be that problems with the writing become obvious, or the acting wasn’t as strong for whatever reason, or it can be technical problems, like you couldn’t get the angles/movement you wanted, or lighting didn’t come together, etc. Sometimes it’s nothing that an audience would even have a problem with, but as an artist, it just didn’t match your vision and would bother you if it was left in the film. This tends to be the case when a director says that the theatrical version is their Director’s Cut. Just because something was shot, doesn’t mean it would necessarily be good to put into the film, even for hardcore fans that want more and don’t care about pacing or focus. Some scenes just end up not being good, despite the best intentions. Maybe we can see those kind of scenes in a deleted scenes special feature on a Bluray release or something.

I must say, in the brief moments he was in the film. He brought a lot of humanity and warmth into his character. And his acting was so much better and natural to what he's doing. Great casting choice. Too bad we didn't get to see him find the Fremen and his interaction with them.

So, Duncan Idaho from the books was - an insanely badass fighter - Paul's favourite teacher - Leto's choice to reach out to the Fremen - a man the Femen respected and admired - a notorious ladies man, so handsome that women swooned - a bit of a drunk when the pressure gets too much - secretly pining in love for Jessica Mamoa captured most of that very well indeed.

Seeing Jason Momoa exploring the red dunes of Wadi Rum in southern Jordan, brings back so many memories when I was there 2 years ago. The landscape is so vast and breath taking with these massive rock formations I have ever seen, nothing compares anywhere else on Earth. It feels like you are in a different planet, its no surprise it has been used as a background setting in a number of films in particular for science fiction movies like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Prometheus, The Martian, Rogue One: A Star Wars story, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker & now DUNE.

I watched “Dune” for the first time 3 days ago and I’ve watched the movie twice that time. I expected another “Star Wars” knock off and walked away “no, this is BETTER than ‘Star Wars’!” (No offense to “Star Wars” of course.) Having never read the books, I have been in a tale-spin trying to find the audiobooks for a decent price because even Amazon is having trouble keeping them in stock. I’ve never been big on franchise movies - “Star Wars”, “Harry Potter”, “Twilight”, etc - but I am excited to explore this world.

true! funny, I watched star wars IV a couple days ago while walking on the treadmill, I noticed the awkward movements and scenes, still enjoyed it but movie making has moved on SO much... this is a bit of that special effects overkill Lucas talked about so long ago, but, the effects look magnificent... he joked about not stopping the story to look at the special effects, the stalling of the story that is the bane of so many modern "hero" movies, then, star wars fell into that vat anyway.

This film is 2 1/2 hours long but it is so good that it seems short because you’re left wanting more by the time credits roll. I know Denis said that the theatrical version IS the director’s cut, but I would’ve loved an extra hour of scenes that were cut. I doubt that it will happen but I’m hoping that part 2 will be 3 1/2 hours long at least. I doubt anyone will complain.

What a beautiful word……100% agree with that statement. My younger years growing up on east coast surfing, drinking, doing drugs and partying everyday even during my first few years in military in the early 90s.. Then one trip while in Navy got to go mountain climbing with friends from Colorado and other parts of the country that I taught how to surf. And when we reached the top of those mountains and I looked over the land below and the rest of the mountain ranges and seeing all those other snow capped tops and the sky etc. was just so freaking Gorgeous. We had ran out of beer by our second day on my leave so the rest of our trip up the mountain was prob the first time beside boot camp that I was 100% sober since I was about 13years old moving out on my own as a kid. And it was then on top that mountain with my friends looking upon the beauty this world has to offer truly that I decided I didn’t need to be wasted to find joy in my life. From that day on I only drank on occasion maybe twice a month and stopped doing drugs. This world really is a beautiful place and has so much for one to offer if you only go out and try to do it.

I am such a fan of the first 2 books (Ready to start 3, just, finishing off other books I'm reading). I have been excited to see certain films over my life. As a kid, seeing Star Wars at the drive in with the family, or the Indiana Jones series. By the time Jurassic Park and Avatar debuted, I was an adult and wasn't really invested in the films. but I still wanted to see them, and I still wanted them to be good work, representative of the novel in the cases there was one. I have always loved movies, and I have mostly kept that spark of my childhood excitement, for a GOOD movie. I've read the first Dune book twice, listened to it again downloaded from Audible, and am listening to the second book again as well, I really must applaud the on-line team's execution of "everything you need to know about dune," over the last year or more. Dune is not an easy book, as I found myself doing something I'd never had to do before. I had to stop at about 80-100 pages in, and start all over. This was not a book I could read with the TV or stereo on, or room mates goofing in the hall. This was a book worthy of my complete attention, and if I wanted to enjoy it, I'd better stop mucking about and move. I had to do the same wit Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. Id get about 2 chapters in and then stop and read something else. The guy who loaned me the book stayed in my head, throughout, So I finally got about 50 pages in and have been addicted to it since about 1994- ish. I finished it and gave it back to my co-worker who laughed and told me that as of that day there were at least 5 more books I could be reading while we awaited the next book. I didn't know whether to kiss him or kill him. It's not "great literature" but it is an excellent story, well told, and I've read the whole series, from page 1 to then end of book 6, then started again when it book 7 away announced. Anyway, we've got another season of Dexter, Dune, and Wheel of Time (Prime) all coming out at about the same time. It's like the Universe is offering me an olive branch after crapping on me mercilessly over the last 20 years. ***It's probably safe to say no one cares, but the amazing effort going into television shows surpass that of major movies filmed in the 80's & 90's, bless their little hearts. Anyway, here are some I recommend, and I'm always glad to get a solid movie recommendation. If you're recommendation is simply mock the length of this reply, rest assured, I've already mocked myself, so you can sav yourself the time and effort and go back ot porn, people with cats, people falling off their ladders onto their cats

I'm soo happy they hired Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho. He's going to stay with the Dune franchise forever!

first of all, Mamoa is the most beautiful human being in the movie industry...I mean, its kinda scary how attractive he is, and yet he seems to be very down to Earth. Secondly, after I saw Dune Part 2, for the 3rd time since its been released, its easy for me to call Villanueve, "thie era's Steven Spielberg"...his foresight and knack for imagery, is breathtaking.
