EDIT: I have no idea why since i captured and made note of it but I completely forgot to add that Gief loses his f HK in Modern Mode. This is an overhead that knocks down.

More than the instant SPDs, his SA3 not needing you to jump or buffer it behind a dash or button is pretty insane, even with the damage nerf

Great guide, gonna need to know what modern Zangiefs are missing to change my gameplay plan around them. The one thing I learned facing a modern Gief is that they can effortlessly anti-air you with SA1/Air SPD on reaction, which is arguably worse than instant ground SPD.

i mean... instant super 3 is insane honestly. there's no way you can ever get that SA3 That fast ever.. and instant air spd is a great deal too, since a lot of people can't TK for shit

As a dedicated Modern player, I really appreciate this guide. I went into the game expecting to enjoy Luke and JP but it turns out I'm having way more fun with Cammy and Zangief!

I hope Capcom gives him green hand back, Vanishing Flat. It's one of his original signature moves. If they think it's too overpowered, just link it to an install so that he needs to glow green in order to access it.

yes, the 1 button spd lacks range...but the two button (i.e. OD) version of SPD is still available.

I honestly think giving Zangief a 720 super was a mistake because there's no good way to balance it with modern mode being a thing now. Like I know having a 720 super is a staple for him, but I think it should've just been a 360 + Kick. I mean watching people do a one button standing 720 is hilarious but from a design standpoint, it's a issue

No it literally isn't. 20% damage reduction is huge and makes it not worth

20% dmg reduction doesn't matter if it wins you the round. The crux of the issue is that it's too accessible for something that is way too damaging. Even with the 20% dmg reduction, it takes 1/3 of your health bar, 50% if it's CA. The fact that you must preemptively jump it just makes newer players want to go for it on wakeup. Since they may not know how to correctly respond to a gief yet, it's basically death.

​@@Xzfinity Zangief Simple CA only does 4240 damage, which isn't 50% for any characters so far. In fact, most normal CA does 4500 damage. So simple CA is losing a ton of damage.

I disagree because so much of his modern kit can be beaten by jumping or backdashing and his medium range is non-existent. Without the instant lvl3 being in the corner (especially burnt out) would just be absolutely impossible to deal with.

Mordern gief can’t HK. His head kick is a decistatong move for controlling the space around him including the air

its a suplex. A jackhammer is STILL a variation of suplex, technically a vertical suplex into a powerslam.
