When I was a university student in Japan, I lived with a Japanese family (homestay) and Kawagoe is the hometown of my host father, so they took me there during a Kawagoe festival. There definitely werenʻt that many tourists -- mostly local residents as I recall -- so there wasnʻt all that street food or traffic. I donʻt remember what we ate, but I do remember the old buildings, especially the "kura," or warehouses that I had read or heard about, and the streets reminded me of the sets of all those old Japanese "samurai" movies we used to go to see in Hawaiʻi, but they were the real thing. I wish they had all that great street food when I was there, but I only remember "festival food" at temporary booths when I went to festivals, which I loved to do. and you could buy the special treats or snacks inside the stores. In general, it is (was) bad etiquette to walk around and eat or drink in Japan, so I donʻt remember any places which were known for "street food" like today. And there definitely werenʻt any Starbucks, but Iʻm glad the one in Kawagoe kept the traditional Japanese atmosphere. You and TabiEats shared some great places to eat in or near Tokyo that were away from the hugely popular tourist attractions.

If you like Matcha Soft Serve, try the near end of the street shop name Sawawa i think. And they got nice warabi mochi too.

Amanda & Felix...Little Edo Town in Kawagoe was a foodie paradise heaven. I'm hoping that one day we get a part two episode return trip. Amazing food and a big shout out to Tabi eats for sharing this place with the both of you. I going to watch this episode over and over again. Felix were those potato chips sweet potato's? They looked like it & was so nicely uniformly shaved and crispy. Even that jewelry it was amazing perfection! What nice keepsakes for the both of you. SWEET& deserving!

I wondered what the locals thought of you eating on the street, since it's not done there. But with all the street food vendors, hopefully it will be more accepted soon. Thanks for showing us all those amazing foods, they were all new to me! Definitely going to check those out the next time I visit Japan! 😀👍

If you ate mushy takoyaki, you went to a bad shop. Good shops are hard to come by, to be fair. Takoyaki is easy to learn hard to master kind of skill.
