Honestly ppl don’t realize it’s about technique too, you gotta place one hand on the handle and another right under the actual hammer and slide that hand down as you bring it down to increase the leverage of the hammer and creating more force
@JBS755111 ай бұрын
Bingo
@Geozuks11 ай бұрын
How does sliding one hand down mid movement increases leverage more effectively than just holding from the closest part of the handle from the start? If something, it looks like the opposite since you'd start the movement with one hand down on the handle and the other in a upper, suboptimal, position. Besides, to slide the hand you gotta loose the grip and that means that you're exerting force only with one arm throughout the movement

Love the guy who kept coming back. Never give up! Fyi, there is a technique. 1. Feet shoulder width apart, square to the target. 2. Use the hammer to test the distance and aim before you go. 3. Bring the hammer over your head, both hands near the end. 4.) PULL the hammer down with all your might, but squat at the same time, in one fluid motion. If you can time the pull and the squat correctly you will put way more of your mass in to the swing and even people who don't look strong will be able to ring the bell. Just like splitting firewood.

You just need to learn the proper technique. I could have done this as a scrawny teen (I chopped wood all the time) Blade your feet to start. One hand near the base, one hand near the head of the hammer. Right hand if you're over right shoulder, switch if you're going left. Step your back foot forward, bringing it in line with the front foot while you swing. The hand near the head slides down towards the other hand as you swing. Holding it by the far end of the handle, the leverage is way off. You get started slow, and don't build enough momentum and power. I do this at the Renaissance fair all the time, people get amazed I can do 20 consecutive easily. It's all technique though, much like throwing a punch isn't just shoulder and arm.
@DevlinEdora11 ай бұрын
I can't speak for anybody else, but my problem was being afraid of doing a big 'correct' swing and missing the target entirely. Figured I'd rather do a more controlled swing that was less likely to ring it, but also less likely to miss and embarass the hell outta myself 😂 Despite what most of the commenters think, I have indeed swung a hammer before, I've chopped wood, and I worked in a trade for over a decade hahah. The nerves get to ya though! 😅

Secret along with speed is to make sure your hands keep the handle parallel to the ground upon impact. Pretty sure I'd be able to ring the bell with a 12oz trim hammer
@AgentBanana00711 ай бұрын
Yeah, you almost squat down/fall with the hammer so it not only stays parallel to the ground, but also so it stays above you for longer allowing you to give it power for a longer period of time. As soon as the hammer passes the 90 degree angle that it makes with your body on the downswing you’re barely giving it any more power.
