STRENGTH WORKOUT: 30 Minute Strength Training for Seniors And Beginners
Build muscle with this 30 minute strength training for seniors and beginners. This beginner strength workout consists of 3 sets of 4 exercises in 40 second rounds to enable you to work at your own pace. Just starting out? Don’t use any weights and get the moves down. Add weights when you’re ready. Use dumbbells, but water bottles, cans, bags of beans, or anything that’s easy to hold will do.
Growing older doesn’t mean you have to get weaker. The term “use it or lose it” applies to muscle strength and bone density that decreases as we age. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, studies at Tufts University have shown that strength training is one of the best ways to fight the weakness and frailty that can come with age. Done regularly, strength training builds bone and muscle and helps to preserve strength, independence, and energy.
So let’s build muscle and stay mobile, independent, and strong.

My elderly dad lost so much muscle mass after covid. We’re constantly told by his doctors he should do strength training, because his diet is already good. But no one actually helps us understand how to build the right routine for him. Most youtube videos are heavy on cardio which is not what we’re looking for. Thanks for sharing this.

I’m only 27 but this video and these exercises feel amazing for me too! Most workouts or videos that I try go too fast or intense for me to be able to listen to my body properly, drink water, and take breaks, but this was perfect. I also really enjoy the energy that both of you bring to the workouts that makes it really fun and encouraging. Thanks so much to both of you!

I want to let Aiko know that she is definitely not the only one working to get the opposite-arm-opposite-leg exercises right! 😉At 71, I have to really concentrate to finally do them, usually with a lot of laughter. 😂I found your videos 6 months ago and LOVE them! I just want to say thank you and I love your videos. I am 66 years old and have knee, back and vestibular issues. I have tried so many other workout videos but find I can't do all of the exercises. I found yours about 2 weeks ago and have been working out with you everyday. I even purchased a step. I have lost 6 pounds and have finally made it through your 30 minute hit video. Your videos are wonderful for any age. Your mom is sooooooo cute.

I really enjoy your strengthing workouts! I am 52 but have avoided working out for 20 plus years due to a slipped disc and fear of muscle spasms - whilst hubby works out with his full on weight training process, I do these three times a week and can feel the change already - you both have such lovely demeaners its a pleasure to work out - thank you x

I was thrilled to find a new routine in my INBOX and that it was a strength workout. I wasn't in the mood for cardio fancy foot/arm moves and was so surprised to find a totally brand new routine with some combo moves using familiar one, some mixed with new ones, and all new combos too. So imaginative but obviously well thought out: I had a full body awakening with stars flashing. I woke up tired this morning. Don't you know I'm revitalized! I've been using your strength training videos for about 2 months now. I can tell it's working because I just ordered heavier weights. Started with 3 lbs but now using 5 lbs and I just ordered 7 lb weights. Challenging my muscles to quote you!

I discovered your channel two weeks ago as my Dr strongly suggested I begin a strength training program. I’ve been diagnosed with osteoporosis and poor muscle mass even though I’ve always been physically active. I bought resistance bands and my daughter gave me 5 pound dumbbells. You aree great and mom is so precious. I had Guillain Berra Syndrome worse Nov 2022. I will be 73 in August and still struggling for balance and walking. This GBS is such a struggle. your mom gives me inspiration she shows us any movement is great. By the grace of God I will become more normal. Still struggling between wheelchair, rollator walkjer and 2 4 legged canes. you keep up the good work. Love y'all.

As usual I enjoyed this workout. I felt it was "right on", like as seniors who are aging, we need so many different exercises, so we can remain strong on our feet for balance and preventing falls. This just reinforces what Aiko stated about her issue with getting the opposite-arm/opposite-leg exercises right as you are performing them. April, you have great patience with Aiko, and this is so important. Aiko and April...oh what a pair... they get it done together ...even when Mochi isn't in the video or there. Take care and thanks for the reminder of drinking plenty of fluids as this is important. I was ready for something new, and this video was challenging. Thank you both!

Just want to say thank you! Some days I get very discouraged that I cannot keep doing what I used to do . At 77 years old, with osteoarthritis and overuse injuries (having done high impact aerobic for too many year,s, and yard work) , I do try to keep going . I am encouraged ny Aiko, who keeps on going and you, April, for you expertise, encouragement and kindness. Please keep doing what you do.

How old is your adorable Mum? She's doing splendidly and you're such a help to her. Indeed to all out here. Thank you so very much for these exercises, I'm 70 and although young at heart my muscle strength just isn't there anymore. I'm sick and tired of all these people offering to help but charging the earth for the "help" given. We are all of a certain age struggling along on a pension some of which are pretty paltry so you are a godsend.

I love all your videos. The routines are real and achievable. I’m 67, with Parkinson’s disease, and do the exercises regularly on the days when I’m not walking outside. Sometimes I do a short one in the morning and another one in the afternoon, sometimes just one of the longer ones. Thank you for sharing them. Much appreciated.

Thanks for this, new subscriber here - I'm going through frozen shoulder issues, and your workouts are perfect for me! Regarding drinking enough water - My mom would never drink enough - I couldn't get her to understand that she needed to. She thought because she had swollen ankles (fluid) she shouldn't drink water, it was very frustrating for both of us. it would take her two hours to drink a small glass of water - she would drink a glass of wine in 15 minutes though! 😁

This looks a very good routine, but at the moment I’m not able to do it as I’m having to do little or very low impact arms. Been like this for the last 2 weeks and likely to be the same for the next 2 week. I’m choosing your routines where I can take out the arms altogether, or minimal very low impact arms. I’ll get there and hope to be back doing full arms very soon. Thank you both for all the good routines that you put together for us all. We love them and we love you both and Mochi. XX💜

I have had MS for over 30 years and I love your workouts! I have followed along with several of them but this 30 minute strength workout is my favourite. My mom and I sometimes do three of your 10-minute dumbbell videos back-to-back so that we get half an hour of strength training. This is strength training that I can do without hurting myself! Adding weights to the moves makes me feel like I'm doubling the benefits. The timer in the corner of the screen encourages me to keep going when one of the moves is really challenging seeing that there's only two or three moves left. Thank you for the videos!!

The wonderful relationship between you both and the pacing of your videos keep us coming back for more! We are loving this one also! any tips for keeping shoulders relaxed? I find myself consciously having to relax them so much when i strength train. maybe that's all i need to do. Your reminders to have good posture and hold your head up high are very helpful.

This was just what I was looking for to increase my strength training! I managed to do a few of the exercises with 5 lb weights, which I haven't used for a long time. Always love working out with you 2!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was so lucky to have found your channel. You have helped me lose some weight and get a little stronger. The best thing is I can do these at home and stay consistent on my physical activity. I been doing #57, #122, #160,#190,#171,#92. Mixing them up. Doing 2 or 3 of those 4 times per week. Started doing this on a consistent basis since late September’23.

Aiko is an encourager. I'm 61 but sciatic pain is real. I'm returing after not exercising for quite a while. When I started back 3 weeks ago I could hear my shoulders crunching whenever I had to move my arms. The crunching is gone. I feel so much better after each work out. I've been doing 3-4 days each week. This is the first time I've done this workout. I'm sitting on the first round, even so, I think it's a great workout. Hoping to get up to 5 days per week. Thank you so much.

Thank you! Good you are exercising again! You don't have to be a speedo either! Go at a pace that is you and build from there! No need to rush. The important thing is you are working your heart and muscles! Keep challenging yourself! It's great that you are able to pick up cases of 24 bottles of water but please do so carefully so as not to injure yourself! Your safety and well-being are important!
