The lattisimus dorsi attaches to the arm, hip, ribs, and spine, so tightness here can cause a lot of problems!
Learn how to release and stretch the lats correctly by addressing all parts of the muscle.

When I stretch it my neck tightness almost disappears, it’s amazing. I have allot of stiffness around lower back. I’m starting to think it is pulling my shoulders inwards causing all sorts of problems.

Yup...that little extra rotation was what I was missing. I've been hanging from my chin up bar to keep the shoulder pain in check. I wonder what your thoughts are on small lumps in random spots in my muscles?

The lumps could certainly be several different things. It might be worthwhile talking to your doctor about that.

@@drkristieennis I did...she said...meh..nothing to worry about. Like ganglion cysts...etc...I'm thinking scar tissue or muscle knots..etc. have then on my hip (where I had gear etc in travels...think military)... but also frint side of my quads.. and left abs... small like a marble.

Thank you , That is a great stretch. How many sets should you do. Is 2 sets of 10!holding 30 seconds each? What do you recommend?
@drkristieennis
@drkristieennis 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! If you are not warmed up, holding for a few seconds and repeating 10-15 times would be what I would typically advise, 2-3 times a day. If you do have blood flow going, aim for hold 30-60 seconds.

Could you explain what could be causing it to want to stay tight? I find myself kind of holding tightness in that area during the day. Anything that should stand out as weak? Or just a habit from prolonged tightness?
@drkristieennis
@drkristieennis 3 жыл бұрын
It’s possible the thoracic spine is tight or some of the other stabilizing muscles are weak. See if these videos help at all: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGO0g36agt-cfck kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2msoWp-qt5jq6c

Does it cause the shoulder to drop if you have it tight on one side only? I can see my shoulder bone on the right is much more forward and the arm is falling down not supported at all by the shoulder. Thank you

When you do the stretch on a chair, do you rotate the pelvis as well? ie. tuck the pelvis.
