Yea, this is cool . The fact you did CG and weight calculations makes this better than any SF2 youtuber, not even counting how you give back story and historical significance of the plane/ squadron you are flying with.

I remember learning about toss bombing from the old Tornado sim, was very satisfying to do in-game, amazingly accurate too, certainly more fun than having to do a BL755 run low and slow over an airstrip lol. great vid as usual Devin, looking forward to more!

I did read some stuff that indicated that F-84s did it with conventional bombs as early as Korea, but again they were using the LABS computer and I'm still not convinced it was accurate enough at the time to hit exactly what they were aiming at.

I absolutely love how you went through the charts - seeing how they were read is really something. I'm holding out hope for a Thud in DCS one day... with all the iconic birds of Vietnam fame that are in the works or planned, we'd be sorely missing it. The tapes are certainly difficult for me to adjust to, though - I have a hard time with anything that isn't a normal steam gauge. Too much information without clear enough delineation, I guess. ADHD things. I do love the look of them, though!

I know what you mean. I'm an aviation Luddite for sure, (in case you hadn't noticed) and I hated the modern Primary Flight Displays in everything for the same reason as you: I found them too overwhelming and dense with information and didn't know where to look to get what I was trying to find. I've gotten more used to them now, but I still prefer the ol' Six Pack to them.

Hell, no! Absolutely not. I don't agree at all with the people who look down on someone who plays a game "wrong." Whatever way makes a game fun to you is the right way to play! Because I concentrate on history, I wanted to dive into the real book a little and explain what we might have seen in real life from a mission, and to show the boring but essential part of aviation that some people aren't aware of.

Glad you are back making videos miss them, Those F-105 boys had it rough lost 397. 23 to MIGS, 31 to SAMS and the rest to AAA, unknown or accident causes. 274 over NV, 2 over SV, 59 over LAOS, and 62 over other regions. 150 were KIA/MIA and 103 POW'S.

I'm a Thud pilot, and I love my plane. It is my body, I am it's brain. My Thunder Chief loves me, and I love her too, But I get the creeps, with only one seat and one engine too. She's faster than lightening it says on her dials. To get a Thud airborne takes only two miles. She's packed with transistors, black boxes, diodes, But stay alert, 'Cause you might get hurt when she explodes. She totes more bombs than a B-17. My F-105 has a gun and she's mean. But there is one thing that curdles my blood, It's lonesome up there, Alone in the air in my single seat Thud. I love my Thud and she loves me too. She soaks up Flak like a magnet can do. If I get my hundred and I'm still alive, I'll have no grief, Good-bye Thunderchief, My F-105! Dick jonas

Got to ask, you planning to do a merc campaign in Dhimar at some point? It’s probably my favorite campaign in this game since it gets interesting very quickly since both sides are fairly evenly matched for air power. Also really been looking forwards to the F-105. Great aircraft and hugely under appreciated.

At this point I really don't know. It would be cool, but I still want to finish out all of Vietnam, get into Korea, then Formosa Strait, the 7 Days war, and keep going on NATO. So there's a lot on my plate haha.

@@devinhorner2358 Sweet well if you do the story for it could be great since British and American ww2 pilots ww2 into the 50s and 60s where finding quite a bit of work as merc pilots. Read an article about it awhile back that kinda ended up with me picking up SF2.

I do really like the Merc Dhimar campaigns. For two reasons. 1 - as time progresses you can buy new aircraft, who doesn't love buying new aircraft?? 2 - as time progresses the front line shifts forward and backward. It's nice to see your actions having an effect on the overall war

@@devinhorner2358 So I can’t seem to find the article online but to give a quick summary from memory it wasn’t exactly uncommon to have a merc pilot. Most of the time the aircraft was provided and helicopters and other transport aircraft where more common. However aircraft flown by mercs usually ended up being older aircraft and involved in smaller conflicts with a lot of it being in a training role. It also tended to be small nations who had a limited airforce, a lack of pilots, and just needed people with experience. Western wise these pilots where sometimes unofficially backed by the US or UK to help deal with communist threats. SF2 wise this more or less fits your role in the Dhimar campaign. You’re hired by the king of Dhimar who’s backed by the US against Pharan who’s backed by the eastern bloc. With tensions flaring you’re put on the front line and the US sends support to prevent a communist take over. Paran ends up attacking and your force of mercenaries backs up the Dhimar Air Force. Game wise it means you also have to manage your unit since you have to buy replacement aircraft and any munitions you want other then guns and fuel. Usually ends up being a fantastic campaign since losses can quickly add up if you’re not careful and you end up having mixed squadron of aircraft using whatever you can afford. In addition the front line shifts depending on the actions of the tank units so air support missions can be critical. One time I ended up mid campaign with my Mirage squadron escorting a Hawker Hunter and an F-100 which I’d bought to put ordnance on rapidly advancing Parani ground forces. You can also end up selecting any aircraft you want to start with and aircraft you can buy update as time goes on. By default you start with the F-100 and then transition to the F-4.

Wow. just Wow! You put so much love and effort into this episode Dev, you obvs love the F105! And yeah - she is a sexy beast isn't she? The way they were used in Vietnam is almost criminal. Same times, same targets, same routes every single day? You couldn't ask for a better target for the NVA gunners FFS. And the USAF policy of saying every pilot should fly every single plane? So you get some pilot who had spent his career flying a C-123, give him 10 hours in a Thud and then say go Bomb Hanoi? Oh he got shot down? Like WTF did you think was gonna happen! I think I am gonna have to dig out my copy of Thud Ridge. I Assume you have read this book ;-) Also you have inspired me to load up Strike Fighters again. My last campaign ended badly, my Scooter pilot did one too many attacks on AAA during a SEAD mission. Maybe this time will be different. At 1:38 the wingmen dumped bombs and racks close to landing. Why did they not drop their ordnance on the target? I'm confused.

Its the AI just being weird. If the target gets destroyed before the wingmen get into position to fire, they won't drop. I didn't assign them other targets because I didn't want them to get shot down. So, they sometimes just bring ordinance back to base.

Hi, Hani. That's an unusual problem, I'm afraid I have no advice. My only thought would be that the actual sound file might be corrupted? If its with a specific aircraft try looking in the .data file and and see what file its using. you could swap it out for one that does work

Hello! What would you do if the wingman said bingo fuel? I heard the Game doesn’t have refuelling model? So should i be worried and RTB? When RTB, whats next?

I don't think the AI ever actually run out of fuel. They will head for home, or will report Bingo to you, but I've never had one fall out of the sky. So really, the key is to worry about your own fuel usage because wingmen will stick with you no matter what. Its sort of weird but I think the developers assumed most people would use the fast travel option, making fuel management less of a factor. If you want to simulate some reality, you can always order the AI to return to base on their own.

@@Happy-tp4jd yeah I use the win 7 version with almost no problems. The only issue is to make sure to not run the "effects" option on unlimited, things dont display properly. There is some sort of MP function built into the game but it's not used, so consider it a single player game

The game models both noise and deception jamming, depending on the aircraft or service. Noise tries to scramble radar by overpowering it and deception reflects multiple targets back to radar to hide the real return.
