I have sang this to my son since that first night in the hospital when he came into my life. He's 23 now and I still sing this to him, quote it, and send him the video when he's having a rough time. He's an amazing man with a heart of gold, and he makes me proud every day.

so true. I am a huge fan of ACDC, but no one ever will reach Ronnie singing THIS song. Free bird is better - as a performance, but that is because of the guitars, but the best song with the best message ever - Simple man. All men should live their life following this message. It is so good, i start to cry to listen to it. And i normally NEVER do that. They were so good. that they could get such a replacement (in the family) is still amazing. Ronnie does it a bit better, but nobody on this planet could reach him with his own written song.

This is the song my Mom and were going to dance to at my wedding. She passed away less than 6 months before my wedding. I took her for granted like a lot of young men do. This song always makes me tear up. But this version pulls on my heart strings especially. I was her only son as well
@jayellevee Жыл бұрын
It’s been 2 years, Cameron. I hope somehow you find my reply. We don’t know each other. I know your pain and I know it’s complicated. This weekend, I get to dance with my son to this song at his wedding. I know I am blessed beyond measure. I will carry your mama in my heart. Also, please hear this, as a mama I know this is true. Your mama doesn’t want you to feel hurt anymore. She’s also has long forgiven you of anything you still carry in your heart as things you’ve taken her for granted for. Trust me on that. No need to even think about it. Like this song says, be a simple man and be satisfied. Find that quiet voice in your heart, spend a moment there and just give yourself peace. You are worth it.

Mama told me when I was young "Come sit beside me, my only son And listen closely to what I say And if you do this it'll help you Some sunny day" Oh, yeah Oh, take your time, don't live too fast Troubles will come and they will pass You'll find a woman, yeah, and you'll find love And don't forget son there is someone up above And be a simple kind of man Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can? Forget your lust for the rich man's gold All that you need is in your soul And you can do this, oh, baby, if you try All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied And be a simple kind of man Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can? Oh, yes, I will Boy, don't you worry, you'll find yourself Follow your heart and nothing else And you can do this, oh, baby, if you try All that I want for you, my son, is to be satisfied And be a simple kind of man Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man Oh, won't you do this for me son, if you can? Baby, be a simple, be a simple man Oh, be something you love and understand Baby, be a simple kind of man

Lynyrd Skynyrd never did a bad song...they all meant something. They STILL mean something. I am a child of the 70's (am almost 60 now) and everything still resonates. No music out there these days that means the same.

I got married for the last time in 2011 and my son and I danced to this song, because my son requested the DJ to play this just for him and me. This is the only song my son and I ever danced to. He was about 40 years old at the time. This song has always had a special space in my heart since the 70s when my son was a toddler. He didn't realize what this song had always meant to me, but somehow he knew this was mother/son song. And he got it! I had tears in my eyes the whole time we danced to this song! Love my son even more. This song has an even more special meaning. Have goose bumps even now! "Let there be Lynyrd!"

My favorite song of Skynard, up there with Tuesday's Gone! Music used to have so many messages that I actually learned vital lessons from. I wish the same was more of a norm today than fleeting but meaningful moments. There are exceptions as exampled, having learned from a fresh, new performer named Stephanie. Her passion for the lost, the downtrodden and the addicted touches my soul to its very core. She actually makes one GaGa, and I jsut learned how she came upon that name- Freddie had something to do with it! Just think , if Skynard had still been in its original line up. the magic that would have been made. Thanks for sharing!

Like Heather, this song reminds me of my Son. He is descent, moral and a great friend. 4 years ago I introduced this song to him and told him that it's written for him. No complexity, just him.... He immediately liked it and now he plays it on his guitar. It is a simple pleasure for a father to see him translate it into his repertoire.

The original lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant, was killed in a plane crash back in 1977 along with guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie Gaines and their road manager. The band has been fronted by his younger brother Johnny (in video) since they reformed in 1987. Most of the footage shows the past members of the band who have passed on. Unfortunately since this DVD was released in 2003, Ean Evans (the bassist) Hughie Thommasson (guy with white guitar) and Billy Powell the pianist have all died as well. It's the Skynyrd curse....

Granted, Ronnie Van Zant wasn't singing this time, but his kid brother Johnny Van Zant did and only those of us, who have listened, for decades, can truly hear the difference between these 2! It was like, God knew what was going to happen and made Johnny, to replace his big brother, when we lost him! BOTH brothers, have vocals, like no one has ever been able to touch, in decades, that are like ghosts of each others vocals! Lynyrd Skynyrd, is 1 of THE top bands, of rock & roll, in my book! Great music, from a great band! RIP Ronnie!
