In french, "santé" means health, but it's also the word for "cheers" when raising our glasses. It's phrased like we wish health to others.

Lots of puns in the french lyrics. This is a tribute to hard workers that we forgot most of the time but proved to be so helpful to keep the society going on. This is especially true in the beginning of the covid19 for instance.

Like somebody wrote on the web i’m more happy for the comeback of Stromae then the one of Adele (I respect both artists). Being able to get back to what you love after a depression is quite an achievement. Creation is a shy thing, sometimes it is present and other times it’s gone for days, months, years when you don’t feel right. So I’m very happy that the creation is back and smiling again to Stromae!

It's the equivalent to the English "Cheers" in that context, I believe. Also, as Dereck understands Spanish, I guess I should add that "Santé" is like the Spanish "Salud", meaning "health", which is also used by Spanish speakers to mean "Cheers".

I might be reaching. But i feel like the video and also the dystopian feel of the dancing instruction videos has a deeper meaning than people may think. Dancing is very powerful and in some cultures gateways. Where certain movements can take you places mentally and spiritually. The oa on netflix really showed this well. Stromae is celebrating hard workers as well as hinting at the fact that anyone can get out of the matrix of life and find happiness in whatever they do. And possibly instructing people to break out their own matrices. Idk lol its late ⏰

We can say "Santé" for a toast is like saying "Cheers". there is also in the sense the protocol to ensure health, as the rules and measures of hygiene and safety. Here the word health therefore has several meanings.I have the impression that he does not utter the word on purpose. Indeed, in some kind of work, it's hard to be in good shape and there is no time to celebrate.

I tried to translate, and explain the plays on words 😅 Santé - cheers (/Health) À ceux qui n'en ont pas >>>To those who don't have one Rosa, rosa (Maybe a reference to "Rosa" by J. Brel (famous Belgium singer of the 60s-70s), song that starts with the latin declension « rosa, rosa… » ?) Quand on fout le bordel, tu nettoies >>>When we mess up, you clean up Et toi, Albert >>>And you, Albert Quand on trinque, tu ramasses les verres >>>When we drink, you take up the glasses Céline, "bataire" >>> Céline -bataire (sounds like célibataire, meaning single) Toi, tu t'prends des vestes au vestiaire >>> You … - litt : …you take jackets… (but a bit aggressively, more of "you get jackets thrown at you") - Fig : …you get rejected… … in the cloakroom Arlette, arrête >>> Arlette, stop it Toi la fête tu la passes aux toilettes >>> You spend the party in the restrooms Et si on célébrait ceux qui ne célèbrent pas >>> What if we celebrated those who don't celebrate Pour une fois, j'aimerais lever mon verre à ceux qui n'en ont pas >>> For once I'd like to raise my glass to those who don't have one À ceux qui n'en ont pas >>>To those who don't have one Quoi les bonnes manières? >>>What good manners? Pourquoi j'f'rais semblant? >>>Why would I pretend? Toute façon elle est payée pour le faire >>> anyway That’s what she’s paid for Tu t'prends pour ma mère? >>>You think you're my mother? Heureusement qu'c'est que deux verres ! >>> Thank God it's only two glasses! Appelle-moi ton responsable >>>Call your manager for me Et fais vite, elle pourrait se finir comme ça ta carrière >>>And hurry, your career could end up just like this Yes, let's celebrate those who don't celebrate Once again I would like to raise my glass to those who don't have one To those who don't have one To those who don't have one Frotter, frotter >>> rub, rub Mieux vaut ne pas s'y frotter, frotter >>> (you´d) better not… - Litt : rub, rub yourself on it - Fig : approach Si tu n'me connais pas >>>If you don't know me Brosser, brosser >>>Brush, brush Tu pourras toujours te brosser, brosser >>>You can always - litt : brush, brush yourself - Fig : go to hell Si tu ne me respectes pas >>>If you don't respect me Chorus…. He doesn't say "sante" at all. But "sante" (which means "health" literally) is what you say in French to say "cheers". So he's raising his glass ("sante" is not spoken but understood, like the people he's celebrating are there, but not seen). As always, full of play on words like "Celine ... bataire" Celine being a person's name and celibataire meaning "single". He melts the two sounds (imperfectly, but who cares), like a surprise pun. Another fantastic song, with some lines reminding me of the likes of Jacques Brel and Georges Brassens. Stromae is in a league of his own. A true pleasure.

This guy is playing with words and music like a master, a maestro (his name comes from that word), so well that many people compare him to Jacques Brel, another Belgian artist of words and music would could create amazing atmosphere and sing about everything - especially subjects of society, etc... For instance, Jacques Brel - "Ces gens-là" (live 1966) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWeweHqebbyImdE

He is amazing. I’ve heard this song a few times now, but had no idea what the lyrics meant. Watching this with subs - I’m in tears. Some of his music touches me, starting with Papaoutai, the song that turned me on to him. Amazing musician, artist, and performer.
