This knot is absolutely fantastic! I use it every time I fish but no offense, this is the most difficult way of tying it that I've ever heard of! Look up the f2f knot tutorial on the "salt strong" channel, it'll save you time, effort, and headache! Trust me!

The problem I see is cinching the knot after tying all the hitches. I do one hitch to hold it and then cinch it before tying the rest of the hitches. Doing it this way, it won't matter what brand of line you're using. It'll lock down every time. I tie the FG knot differently but I think the end result is the same. I've tested this knot many times using a digital scale and the mono/fluoro has always broken midway or at the terminal knot. It never breaks at the FG knot. It has never failed me.

If you had added several half hitches from the braid tag end to the knot atfer cutting the flouro it would have made a better finished (smoother) rig, found this to be true using many different rods that had smaller line lines, the flouro would sometimes catch the lines as it was reeled up, try it out to see what I mean! Best braid to flouro know I ever seen and used, great video...

ONE time I would like to see this knot tied with 15 lb. braid and a 10 lb. fluoro leader. Really difficult to do. But he does make a good point. This is a SALT WATER knot tied with heavy test mono and 4 carrier braid which is no where near as smooth as 8 carrier. I'm also waiting to see a bass the size of a tarpon.

Very good video. I am still learning this knot. I had a lot of trouble with my first few. They were super tight, and the fleuro never slipped. But my hitch knots slipped once i started fishing and when they came undone the knot fell apart. Any alternative to the half hitch as an insurance knot?

That's the FG Knot but you are doing it the hard way. This knot is the strongest I have used.
@SaltwaterExperience9 жыл бұрын
+rdmanone Lots of knots have different names in different areas. I learned this knot from Robbie Delph so I have always called it the Delph Knot. Somehow it is also called the Sebile Knot and also goes by both GT and FG knot. If there is an easier way, I would like to know. When I am rigging and not instructing, I believe I could tie this knot in one minute the way I am doing it. I dont use a lighter, but do sometimes use my teeth to give the fluoro some texture
@rdmanone9 жыл бұрын
I gotcha. Using your teeth to give the fluoro texture is a great idea never thought of that. Thanks.

What do you think of the " crazy leader" ? You connect it to the braid line using a Bimini twist?
@SaltwaterExperience9 жыл бұрын
+keale s I dont know it by that name. Can you link me?
Sorry to bother you but would this work with a coated wire trace instead of fluorocarbon?
@shayden52898 жыл бұрын
I have a question for you: What line diameters were you using for your knot? I tried tying my FG knot for my reels using your method, and I NEVER got a solid knot, in about 20 attempts using 6# test fluorocarbon leaders to a .18mm 3# diameter Spider-Wire braid. I decided to go ballistic and make the knot 5 inches long and add an improved clinch with 13+ wraps before it actually decided to hold itself on the line I was using. I realize this knot is very good for joining braid to a leader like fluorocarbon, but I feel like this might be a knot that is better suited for larger diameter line than would be considered acceptable for casting light or weightless lures for fish such as trout. I was able to tie this line just fine with a much thicker braid(around 30# test) to 25# fluoro with no problem, so I think you guys left something out of your video.
@triela4208 жыл бұрын
works best with fluoro that is larger diameter than the braid, ~30% is usually fine, if the line sizes are closer though, instead of 20 wraps do 30-40
@dwightfletcher86037 жыл бұрын
i noticed you are using a fairly heavy braid and fluorocarbon. how does this knot hold up using lighter test in both. such as 15-20# aslo what brand of braid and fluorocarbon are you using?have you tried this knot with monofilament?....thx

Dwight, I use Sunline Aseggai 18# braid to 7# Shooter leader and both hold up to 7# fish on short line/shallow fishing. I've recently switched to 14# Shooter when the 7# cost me a huge fish in 3' of water (rocks!). I have to admit, the larger leader is easier to tie than the 7# leader but I've learned to tie both leader sizes to the 18# braid, it just takes practice. I use tight braid and leader when tying.
@keales95649 жыл бұрын
Yeah , I agree it's the FG knot. I usually can't snip my lines that close, I hold a lighter to melt and create a ball. There's a guy on KZbin that has a way to tie the fg in knot in less than a minute.
@SaltwaterExperience9 жыл бұрын
+keale s If you are going to use a lighter, you want to do that before you start the knot. Dont try to melt with the braid around the end of the fluoro.
@dcgo44r9 жыл бұрын
***** I agree...a lighter at this close is a call for disaster! More in a dedicated knot like this one! I have done some research about this knot and saw differents ways...but the way you did it...very interesting! Some people will say that the round tag is to avoid the sharp edge for scratching on the braid... I don't think it matters, possible but...I rather work on the edges with a fine fingernail file than messing up the knot.
@SaltwaterExperience9 жыл бұрын
+Fishing Rod I dont regularly use a lighter. The knot already takes more time than others I use. I have not seen the need to melt the end, honestly. It is a nice touch, but unnecessary in my opinion.

when you say certain type of braids won't work, what are you talking about exactly.. is it the brand or the style.. like for example I use wax covered braid and slick braid.
@FlyingBanana788 жыл бұрын
+Jeff Knowles Some braided lines 'Super Slick' and such types tend to want to keep sliding down the leader no matter how tight you get to pulling it even with hitches in place. I know that some people have said run the section of braid across a flat surface like a smooth board (like trying to take creases out of paper) that "supposedly" cuts down the slickness of the braid and allows the knot to dig into the the leader.

It is refreshing to hear someone point out that this is not the universal best and strongest knot for joining FC to braid in all circumstances. If you have a smooth (and maybe waxy) braid, with a very hard FC leader, the risk of failure is greater as the braid does not sufficiently grip the leader. Conversely, when using some braids with a low number of strands onto a supple FC leader, I have had the knot fail under pressure by the braid constricting the leader to the point that it cuts through it. A 'must have' knot in anyone's repertoire nevertheless.
@SaltwaterExperience9 жыл бұрын
+Andris Svilans Yep...I have had the same problem. Check out my TR Knot for those situations. Its pretty good
@TheShoreman19 жыл бұрын
+Andris Svilans I have more slippage issues with certain techniques of trying this knot than others. When dealing with a "slippery" fluorocarbon, the technique I use to tie this would make you laugh, It involves both hands, my teeth, and one foot but the tighter I get each loop of the weave the better hold I get. I keep each loop tight all the way through the tying process. I have not run into the cutting problem that you mention. Is it with certain brands or certain pound test? I guess at some point with very light leader this knot would either fail to grip or cut...
@luisfarris7 жыл бұрын
No need for so many hitch knots. You can tie one hitch over, pull taught then one opposing hitch under the opposite direction and it will hold. Also if your knot is slipping you simply don't have enough twists. I can do 20 from 50# braid to 20# flouro and it slips. I go 22 and it's slide proof. The different combinations of line diameters will dictate how many twists needed in my experience of tying this knot over the years. Great variation of tying it though, I like it

If your knot is slipping then the wraps are overlapping and the knot is not tied correctly or you are not using enough wraps or you just suck at it and should quit fishing 👍
