Professional Strongman Robert Oberst takes you through his on the road Strongman workout, full of key exercises that help him GROW!
Exercise description below.
Warm up before each exercise.
EXERCISE 1:
Incline Bench Press
4-10 sets pyramid reps going up to max effort then drop weight and perform as many reps as possible
EXERCISE 2:
Standing Shoulder Raise
4-10 sets pyramid reps going up to max effort then drop weight and perform as many reps as possible
EXERCISE 3:
Trap Bar Deadlifts
2-3 sets at 80% max weight

Its interesting what works for different people. Eddie says on the main lifts work up to a heavy set then walk away and not go back down for a lot of reps. His thought process is the muscle memory. He wants his muscles to remember the heavy weight instead of the light weight

I just started pyramid scheme then lots of reps..before i was doin 5x5 but just felt like i could do more by adding 5x10 BB phase , huge difference .....your the first person besides me i here do that...i think its the best of both worlds so far since i started my strength journey

Yes, I came from 5x5. I do 3 sets of 5 and 2 sets of 10(ish) now and find that better. I'm going to give the AMRAP with 50% a go tonight.

Man that beard, total envy. The man's a damn beast, looks like he could bend steel by looking at it. The kind of stuff he does is on a whole other level of strength and exertion with a much higher risk of injury. Lifting abnormal objects like atlas stones and logs requires specialized techniques that must be mastered in order to avoid injury.

In this vid he does look more like Eddie H than he normally does. His hair black and short (similar to EH's) when normally it's it a bit more "scraggy" . Beard and big round head round things off nicely.

Except when you're training strength it becomes a very long workout because you need to rest. I spend 30-40 minutes on one compound lift.

the strongman events need some kind of Pull Up exercise.

I see no Pull Up event at the WSM website. The closest thing they do to a Pull Up is the Truck pull or airplane pull or whatever it is they are using that year. This is not real Pull Up. a Real Pull Up would basically be a reverse Deadlift. They might have one event that emphasizes arm/back strength, and another that uses the legs in a reverse deadlift motion. Strongman events need more than just deadlift motions

Pull ups aren't really a good test of strength. The reason deadlifts, atlas stone, keg tosses, farmers walks, yoking, and truck pulls are such a big facet of the WSM is because they incorporate overall full body strength to complete these exercises. A pull up isn't necessarily a great measure of strength in my opinion. (Last year they had to pull a 61,000 pound tanker. That alone utilizes every bit of muscle and strength you can muster from every part of your body.)

Andrew Rubiano I disagree. Pull Up is basically testing the reverse motion of the Military Press. It is about upper back and arm strength and is a classic range of motion that any man who thinks he is a strong man should be pretty good at.

***** yeah they weigh around 400 lbs. so that is a lot of weight to pull up its true. But I am really talking about the range of motion. They could use a glorified lat pull machine with foot locks so they could Pull Up more than their weight, or build a big iron tree, or climb a man made mountain like you see in those outdoor shops. Its just that its such an obvious and critical range of motion for a strong man. to be able to scale walls easily, climb trees and steep faces. It just obviously needs to be in Strongman. O yes, the classic rope climb with hundreds of pounds of weight on their backs would be a good one.
