As a post menopausal woman with a lot of muscle loss and bone loss, and considering that 80% of women who suffer fractures post menopause will be dead within a year, I'm taking minimum dose of strontium citrate along with vitamin d and vitamin k2-mk7. I want to make sure my bones get the best chance they possibly can. Great video. Thanks.

Sarah, thanks for your insights. My wife is hedging her bet, with a minimal amount of strontium. We are intrigued, but cautious. Thanks for your help with osteoporosis we are new, avid listeners with your clairvoyant delivery. Cheers, Richard 🎉

Richard, I think a minimal dose is a good way to go. I am so glad you and your wife are benefiting from the information I share on this channel ☺

This brings us back to the same issue. How does bone density and bone architecture differ? How can a bone look strong on the surface but have the strength of toast on the inside? We're relying on DXA for the whole picture and that's the only choice that's made available to us.

There's also the REMS

This is a topic I should do a whole video about... in the meantime, dexa scans only measure the hard outer layer also known as the cortical layer. Dexa does not measure the soft spongy part of the bone also known as trabecular bone. Bone architecture is an interesting thing to try and evaluate. When a person takes medication to slow bone breakdown for numerous years then it actually stops the body from breaking down old worn out bone cells that should be broken down. These old worn out bone cells are not high quality bone, but they show up on a dexa as thicker bones. Sometimes out bodies break down good bone that they should not be breaking down and medication can help in those instances for a period of time. Dexa while not perfect is a fairly good gauge. When bone is breaking down the soft spongy bone tends to break down faster than the hard outer layer which means that what shows up on a dexa is a fairly good first gauge. Without any testing (and keep in mind that this is not perfect either) when we lose muscle we lose bone. The reverse is also generally true. When a person builds muscle they also tend to build bone. There are some rare instances where this does not hold up, but in general if you can see muscle definition on your body it is a good gauge for the quality of your bones on the inside. I hope this helps a bit. ❤ I do think I should do a follow video about the topic of what makes good bone quality and what the difference is between thickness and quality.

Hi Sarah. Dr Lucas has a newer video about Algarcal, and he has no issues with strontium now. Just passing on a little info.

I think it would be an interesting video to check out! I don't have a problem with strontium either. I do think it is important to be aware of what is out there on the research front regarding strontium. My hope is that this video helps people determine how they feel about taking it with the limited research available❤

I've seen that as well. I like Dr Luca but I do struggle, though, with someone who stands to make money from promoting a product.

@@beverlytaylor6073 I don't have a problem with people supporting products they really believe in, but I struggle when their perspective changes significantly when they are suddenly standing to benefit... Just my two cents unasked for 😘

Doctor lucas says that he makes no money off of this at all. His company has researched the claims and he said that they are all true. He then goes over everything so that you will know what he's talking about. Everyone needs to listen to this for themselves. It's one of his latest videos
@beverlytaylor60733 ай бұрын
@@patriciadrank6543 I can believe that he doesn't make money off of the products but I'd be surprised that he would do advertising of their products with no compensation. I've seen those both on FB and IG. There were some other things that Sarah brought up that would make me question it as well. Who knows? It's like the drugs themselves. There's absolutely no guarantees on any of them. Many claim they've had so side effects and I believe them, however, with very short term testing on many, who knows what might develop down the road.

Hi Sarah, do you know which kind of strontium is derived from Lithothamnion (Red Marine Algea)?
@janahnfoster9363 ай бұрын
The website chat where I buy the tablets didn't know but said it "comes from a plant source and is elemental strontium, not to be confused with a strontium salt." @sarahmapes_bonebuildersystem
@sarahmapes_bonebuildersystem3 ай бұрын
@@janahnfoster936 That is really interesting. This study that I am listing shows that it does become a salt... Maybe the supplement you are taking has something unique? Elemental strontium can certainly be a salt... At any rate elemental strontium is not in the form of ranelate and is not likely to be problematic. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2877502/
