This video is definitely very informative. Thank you so much, Dr. Brown, for your insight about vitamin K2. Natto is flavorless, no odor, and it comes in whole beans form. But, it's a bit slimy and sticky with slight and barely noticeable bitterness. It can be commonly found in the freezer section of any Japanese supermarket or most Asian supermarkets (imported from Japan). We enjoy the kind that comes with "ume"(plum) sauce. We also add a little finely minced scllion and fresh grated ginger or dikon(Japanese reddish). It's delicious and goes well with brown rice! The only question we have is "how much natto is equivalent to "100 mg of K2MK7 in supplement form" ?
@DrSusanBrown3 жыл бұрын
I'm really glad to hear you like the taste of natto. Some sources suggest that one tablespoon Contains150 µg of MK-7. It is a MK-7 powerhouse--happy eating.

Thank you, doctor. I've been on 50,000 IU D3 and 200 mcg K2 MK7 daily for over a year and a half now and have been feeling truly superb and in my best health ever since. I recognize that this is generally regarded as an extreme amount of D3 but I was convinced by the efficacy and safety of it after researching doctors who have successfully treated their patients long-term with comparable therapeutic dosages. My D3 blood levels are indeed well beyond the range that is considered excessive or even "toxic" (200-250) but thus far I can anecdotally report no apparent issues and no calcification of my vessels, kidneys, soft tissues etc. thank you

I just started with an endo NP at Hospital for Special Surgery. She said to be sure to get my calcium and vitamin D. I asked her why she left K out and her reply was "There are no large studies about K2 and calcium levels. Because of that there are no recommendations to take it. I don't think it will hurt you, but I cannot recommend it. We are an academic institution we do not make recommendations unless they are evidence based." What do you think of this? I'm getting K2 I don't care what she says.

It's great that you're taking an active role in your health and doing your own research! K2 is an interesting nutrient with emerging research on its role in calcium metabolism and bone health. While large-scale studies are still developing, many people choose to include it as part of their supplement routine and we always advocate for it!

Make sure the natto is added after the coffee has cooled down a bit or else the heat will kill the bacteria. Misso is also high in k2. I always wondered why misso soup was never served very hot, until I learnt that heat kills the bacteria in misso (and natto).

@@annalane5430 vitamin K isn't destroyed by cooking heat. The natto bacteria likes heat, the bacteria is added to cooked beans when it's still 80 celcius / 175 F whereas the temperature of coffee is 60/140F. @21:05 I suppose she means vitamin D as IUs. 1000 IUs equal 25 micrograms (ug), so 1000 _milligrams_ (mg) would be an insane amount of vitamin D, even 1000 ugs would be too much daily for practically anyone, that’s 40 000 IUs. (An understandable slip in quite a long talk.)
@DrSusanBrown2 жыл бұрын
HI Pete, we use the measurement ng for Vitamin D, sorry for any confusion! The normal range of vitamin D is measured as nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL).
@pete_k2 жыл бұрын
@@DrSusanBrown thank's for the response! _Intake_ vs blood levels are of course 2 different things. With blood level the measurement is obviously per some volume (like ng/mL), but I suppose @21:05 in the video the question is about intake, not blood level value, isn't it. The typical US unit is IU, but in (at least northern) europe micrograms are used. 1000 IU is 25 ug. (Such a pity that all these multiple units are used, and not just with vit. D. There's always a possibility for confusion.)

There's no such thing as K7. You're thinking of vitamin K1 vs vitamin K2 as the MK7 form.

I take K2/m7 with 5-6000 d3 daily. As you say great for bone and I went off Prolia so did it for the bones. I fell and hit my head and had cat scan. Now I find out there are regions of decreased density in both hemispheres comparable with chronic micro vascular disease. Now if I have chronic small arteries in brain with I imagine I should be on thinning blood to get through,as I not hurting myself with these dosages. I’ve talked to my doctor and he believed FDA-medical medicine only. Knows nothing about vitamins. Can you help me with some suggestions.

I am no doctor. However, how high is your calcium score? If over 400---they say you're at major risk for a heart attack/stroke within a few years. I don't know how long it takes for k2/Mk7 & the other dietary food I eat for to reduce atherosclerosis. But get a stress test. A tomography. Atherosclerosis comes with age. Although it doesn't exactly mean your arteries are clogged just because you have a high calcium score. It's just a prodicter. Google it. One guy had a calcium score of 1,300. The doctor actually said, 'oh don't worry about it. Sometimes these test aren't accurate....'. When I went for my blood work, I stunned 2 doctors. They wanted to know how I lowered my cholesterol. Which wasn't so high. But I got it down further. Garlic cloves every evening with dinner. Apple cider vinegar. Zinc. Magnesium. Lots of oatmeal. Some people have a low calcium score but yet die of heart attacks. Some say it's generics. Hey, you gotta work out too. Not heavely. Walk. I walk about 2 miles 3 times a week. The culprit is since most people don't get enough vitamin k2 Mk7----the calcium goes to the arteries, instead to your bones. Lots of junk food does not have hardly any of vitamin k2 Mk7. Thus, calcification goes to arteries. See your cardiologist and get a stress test. If you pass it, it's good. But still. Not perfect. There are so many foods that help reducing plaque and calcium buildup. The less calories you consume----the less atherosclerosis. I try & stay at about 800 calories a day. I think this was why I stunned my doctors.... But there are people who eat salads 3 times a day, yet their sugar is still high. Some people just don't respond to diet. Predisposed. Good luck.

What do you think about MK7 as MenaQ7® ?
@DrSusanBrown4 жыл бұрын
Our Vitamin K formula supplies a significant amount of biologically active vitamin K in the form of menaquinone-7 (MK-7). We think it is an important nutrient for your bones.

I've been eating only plant based diet for about 35-36 years especially lots of green leafs , lately I realized not only my blood thicker but also my arteries are calcified , my personal observation is that this is due to effects Vitamin K from eating lots of greens , I'm still on plant base diet however eat very very little green leafs but eat everything else ! I started taking Omega fish oils my blood is thinner , soon I'm going to start taking Vitamin K2 to see if this lessens the calcification of my arteries .

I’m a vegan past 3 years to cure lymphoma. However, I have calcium deposits (uric acid crystals) in every bone and joint in my body. Plant based diets are deficient in K2. You must take Vit K2 as a supplement or sauerkraut, natto, etc. I wish someone had told me which would have avoided so much pain in my hands. Been on K2 for a month but it will probably take 3-6 months to heal my body. Look at Dr Berg’s videos on uric acid although he is a meat eater, there is some useful info there. Check out Dr Mercola on Vit K2, he is a good man with lots of natural health knowledge. Good luck, you are on the best diet in the world currently, contrary to what most failed vegans say. You HAVE to have the right vitamins and educate yourself to get well, doctors know very, if nothing, about nutrition. My diet is healing my body of cancer but unfortunately I have suffered through lack of Vit K2.
@pietrocantuccini55844 жыл бұрын
K2 alone won't help. According to your diet (no fish), you won't get enough vD to work in tandem with K. Unless you eat a pound of Portabella mushrooms every day / or 25 hard boiled eggs.

A one dimensional comparison of MK-7 and MK-4. Not to say that MK-7 does not have value for bone health. But MK-4 has many dimensions. What does she mean by "food factor"? Is she is saying that MK-4 is not naturally found in our foods? False. MK-4 is a naturally occurring vitamin found in eggs, grass fed butter, ghee, some cheeses, goose liver pate, and more. It sounds like her "education" about the K2's is from the pharmaceutical industry, rather than doing her own due diligence. Do yours and you will find the outstanding value of MK-4. Oftentimes, these Internet "testimonials" are one dimensional, filled with half truths or blatantly promoting the "experts" agenda. Does the fact that MK-4 is a natural component of mother's milk suggest anything?
