Not having any direct cattle experience, I can only speak from an equine pov. Foot ailments are directly proportional to the amount of moisture that the beasts stand in. I don't envy the challenge of trying keep feet dry in the UK nor in the sloppy muck of a dairy operation! 😖

I was taught the formaldehyde foot bath is a preventative not a cure. Digi loves the damp. Scrape the shed daily, run the beefies through the foot bath once then empty it, do that 2 or 3 times a week. I know this bit is a pain in the ass but get the culprits in the crush and spray the digi, really get it up between the claws, toes, hold or what ever you call them up your way. Best of luck. We have a run of digi dermatitis going on now as well

Hi Tom, if we’re having trouble with dermi we use Linco spectin poweder, put a full tub in the foot bath for the day along side regular foot bathing, hope this info helps !!

Hi Tom As already stated....Antibiotic treatment is the only way for digi Lincospectin or Almycin.We use a 7 litre pump sprayer in the parlour once a week and good thing is you can give the hooves a quick wash 1 st !

we have a pile of machinery like that on our farm except it spreads across two fields! It includes an old bale trailer which axle fell off whilst coming into the yard. We looked for a topper for about half an hour there once before realising that it had been sold 2 years before

You should pull that bath back further from the gate and add another barrier along its side. That way it will ensure your stock are travelling the full length of the bath rather than just a third of it.

Hi Tom, those disposable gloves are easy to work in but I might have been working in labs all my career. They don't provide much protection other than splash protection. Hopefully the storm is kind to you, it's calmed down up in Lancaster but looks like it will get a rough again soon

sorry this comment comes so late in the year, but I only found your videos (watching them all..so great!) with sheep, to run them through a foot bath, which they hate getting their feet into standing water, its good to add some waste wool (not sure what you could use with cows). the sheep are more willing to walk through the bath if it doesn't look like standing water, and maybe the cows would not be inclined to drink the water if it doesn't look edible. thanks for the videos!

I already told you, keep the animals on a dried floor or soil and then you will stop the problem. You will have to put some money in it, to improve the floor gradient and keep it dry.

I used to be able to get copper sulphate foc when I was a contract foot trimmer, as mentioned before lincospectin powder works wonders but feel 2 foot baths is the answer one with formalin and the 2nd with lime and sawdust .

I think the more opportunities to rinse poop off feet the better during milking AM/ PM or am only or PM only or spray hooves with a barrier to protect against bacteria in poop !

We just put in a temporary footbath today in the yard. Those hefty vet bills are getting too much so we decided to get one. Neither of us on the farm have any hoof trimming experience. Do you have any tips for hoof trimming?? We only have 20 beefers so we are a small farm. From the wet weather in the last few weeks in Ireland, we have got a scourge of foot problems. And them vets charge well...😂

Hi Tom Just a brief note on formaldehyde. I am sure you have read the safety data sheet (SDS) and are aware of this compounds potential for adverse effects. If not the internet is replete with them along with excellent handling guidance. Like any chemical it can easily be used safely. Knowing this I suggest using a respirator when working with the more concentrated solutions. Working outside in the fresh air I doubt a full face type is needed. A partial should be more than sufficient.. warm regards vic

Wouldn't it be better sinking it in the floor and put a grate over it so when it is needed you just lift the grate up? It could also be used as a buffer to direct the cows through? Just a thought.

You got to scrape the floor’s 2 times a day let the cow’s walk in a bath water solution change it 2 to 3 times daily . You need to have robots to keep floors clean when you don’t have time to clean floors while our in the fields working it helps.But have to keep machines sprayed off every 2 day’s. If that subjection help with the cow’s hoof’s. Need to have another gate on both sides to keep their feet in water. But you could spray their feet off in the parlor room will you milk them have a water bath at the exit door.
