I think it's a misleading weak statement, so many things fit that bill that guitarists can add or tweak with more feeling affect before compression.

Agreed! It was at that point in the video that I hit the like button. For so many young or new players, watching someone in a video toggle a pedal switch can seem useless and make a tool seem ineffective. That was truly the best way I've ever heard compression described. On or off line.
@homeslice14794 жыл бұрын
@@evankeal Well put. Over-simplification shouldn't be an excuse for knowledge and understanding. Not gonna say Pete is wrong, it's a true statement, but there's also WAY more to it than just "feeling" it, which he explains as the video progesses.

I'm a bit surprised that it's not less money. I think the price would be justified with secondary controls. It would be nice to control the q of the mid and treble boost. A secondary attack and release control would also seem necessary to justify the higher price tag. The Ob.1 was priced great at 200. I would understand 250 for the pedal as is, but would really love more secondary controls.

In the various Compadre demos now online, it seems like folks are switching between single coils and humbuckers pretty easily, something other compressors can have a hard time with without somehow adjusting input gain. Glad to hear you are enjoying Compadre! You can certainly use it first in the chain if you want to use it as a buffer when in Buffered Bypass. No tone or quality lost when using an expression pedal. Hope this helps!

This could replace two well-loved pedals on my board, my full-size TC Spark and Wampler Ego. I love the three-way switch on the boost; it's very similar to the Spark in that regard. Not quite as much control as the Spark, but it can get the job done without it. That's what I love about Compadre; you don't miss the lack of control because what's there is perfect for 90+% of guitarists, thanks to its brilliant design. Certainly would check all the boxes for me! GAS activated. I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHY DID I WATCH THIS

No one is mentioning the “high voltage hum”. I’ve experienced this with a compression/sustain pedal before, of course. Would a noisegate tame it, or is it just the nature of the beast when it comes to boosting a signal?
@Drew_Vernon4 жыл бұрын
It's the nature of the beast when it comes to boosting a signal that is in an environment conducive to hum. IE: A compressor (any compressor) will only deal with the signal it's given. It wont itself add hum or noise (other than specific situations where you get a ground loop hum).
@joelrudnick4 жыл бұрын
compression is lowering dynamic range and bringing noise (quietest signals) up, and loud peaks (loudest signals) down. So while compression itself is not changing the volume of the noise, the gain required to compensate for the compression WILL bring the noise floor up

Compadre has a super high-quality VCA that you can use as a master volume with an expression pedal, which may be a good solution for your problem. That way, if you choose a different preset with a completely different threshold setting, you can adjust the output that way. Hope that helps!

I got a problem with the compadre. Very early in the compression ratio it impossible to have unity gain. I see in the video that you have a pretty high studio compression an can still have unity gain/volume out. But that’s not what I experience. Even with the compression only just above 12 o’clock I can’t have unity gain with even with the level at 0. It’s a big problem and I’m about to take the pedal off. Another thing is that midi pc 127 is not manual/knobsetting, - a preset is saved there. You really should make a software update to fix this, I really need that.

Yes. Mine adds a lot of noise. I know every compressor adds some noise by design, but either I got a faulty device or it has something to do with my guitar / pickups. I already tried two different guitars. With my semi-hollow, Compadre adds tons of hiss and static noise. With a solidbody humbucker guitar there is much less noise but still it's very very present in the signal... 🥺 And honestly, I bought Compadre because I read in several reviews how it is a low-noise compressor. BTW, I'm just running the guitar through Compadre to the Amp. Without Compadre = no noise, no hiss. With compadre (even with slightest compression) - loads of hiss / noise...

I dig almost everything that strymon does, but how can they honestly say this competes with the Jackson Audio Bloom or the Origin Effects Cali pedals? Same price point with WAY less features and doesn’t sound better. The Jackson Audio Bloom has Midi control of different compressors, a switchable 3 band EQ and a boost.... and it’s roughly the same price. I just think you need more features to compete in the current compressor market my dudes. Otherwise! Keep putting out killer stuff!!
