Unlike most 80's bands, Stryper is arguably better today, than they were back then. 'Fallen' (2015) is very arguably their best album, and 'Yahweh' is a work of art.

In an era where everything was "Devil" and evil and edgy, Stryper stood firm in their beliefs and told the trends to get lost. In a time where televangelists were saying they were evil and wolves in sheep's clothing, they stood firm in their music and told the talking heads to get lost. There is literally nothing more metal than that.

@@jesusmylordsaviorking3726 They did their own cover of Breaking the Law and other songs as homage to those they grew up listening to. Those who influenced them to make STRYPER even exist, with their message that they throw at people who normally don't want to hear their message. Because STRYPER is trying to reach the Lost, rather than sing some songs that put everyone to sleep in church, and only sing to those same people over and over again, rather than trying to do what our Mission here on Earth is, which is reaching the Lost.

Truth! The Lord basically said the sick doesn't need a doctor, so why would people just keep preaching the word to people who already know it? I used to hang out around a couple of Christian hardcore bands and they would play the dirtiest, roughest dive bars and Venues in Detroit that you'd ever see. I witnessed some incredible things that took place. They would announce they were a Christian hardcore band and many times, they'd get booed...things thrown at them, threats of violence, etc. Once they started playing, that all changed. People realized they weren't soft, they weren't just there for looks. They were the real deal. Crowd would go nuts. I even saw people that came up after the show who were the people threatening the band, that never believed in the creator and then asked to know more about Jesus. It was pretty powerful to see firsthand. They would play these places because they were typically a crowd who would never step foot in a church so they'd never have a chance to hear the word. I'd imagine that, it's safe to say, Stryper has a similar position of taking their music and message to many places and people who would never know it otherwise.
The ending high screams DEFINITELY had a "Cemetery Gates" vibe. I'm an atheist myself, but I've always appreciated Stryper. They carved out their own niche in metal, and when it comes to instrumental and vocal skill they're as legit as they come.

The thing I love about Stryper is that, in its essence, they are beyond metal. The majority of metal just sings about evil and the devil to be cool and fit in. It's not rebellious at all. Stryper on the other hand is singing about the creator, messages of positivity, and being absolutely unashamed or apologetic about it. That's TRUE metal and rebellious as can be! The interesting thing about Stryper is that they've had loyal fans of ALL walks of life...Christians, Atheists, Wiccans, Satanists, etc...the band is well respected and loved by so many.

I have always stated that Christian Musicians are my metal pastors with Rock sermons. Michael Sweet is close to 60 and he said he has lost an octave in is vocal range, and still can nail that scream. He said he learned to scream before he learned to sing. Please do some Bloodgood tight band Les Carlsen has a gravel in his vocals but his falsetto is amazing. I have over 900 cassettes from 70s, 80s, and 90s there are so many great bands. I was introduced to Christian Metal from a woman from LA visiting WA state 8n 1987. I was hooked. I hitchhiked from Longview Wa to LA in 1988 for our first date eventually lost contact then in 2006 we met and married the next day and we are serving God togather 16 years later.

Great remark as you said that these guys didn’t fall as many other preachers, televangelists or CCM bands. They were in the middle, never completely part of CCM industry and initially being teased by the metal media of their time. They deserved a little bit of it, they were throwing bibles to the audience in their concerts... To me now, they show a good Christian stand. They did their 80’s crazy stuff, then completely fell in 90’s... bankrupted... and they’re back to life in this last decade. Check their recent songs Yahweh and The Valley. Now they are revered by their metal peers and Michael Sweet has been doing side projects with great metal names. They gave you good material for your theological approach but these guys are a great topic for Contemporary Church History. Great reaction! You just gave great fuel to my Metal and History world. I was more into punk and Cross over bands back in the day Like Suicidal Tendencies, DRI , Kreator, Megadeth, Overkill, Death Angel . Also for Christian was like the Cricified , Living Sacrifice , Extol . Saying all that kinda made fun Of Stryper but when I did see them live . They threw new testament Bibles into the audience, I got one , I like some though off their first 2 album but appreciate them more now . I think they would b like classic rock , if they weren't Christian, but I am glad they r Christians.

Stryper are originally contemporary to Ratt and Motley Crue. They all started as heavy metal bands but evolved into glam (LA’s Glam, not the 70’s English Glam), also very influenced by MTV content and entertainment industry in LA. The 80’s metal also had fast beat and melodic songs (experience Aces High by Iron Maiden). In my view, “power metal” started mainly in Germany with bands like Helloween (listen to Eagle Fly Free). But the genre “power metal” only came in the mid-90’s.
