I love vintage looks, from the early 1900s to the '70s. When I was starting to get interested in the genre I was lucky enough to meet and talk for some time with the most famous of Hollywood portrait photographers, George Hurrell. I learned quite a bit about lighting talking with him as he used these huge sepia prints as examples. To answer the question, I would use any Godox light in a way Hurrell himself might, whether that be dark and dramatic look for say a male portrait, or light and airy for a female portrait. I don't like to repeat my looks so having something versatile like the AD100 with its magnetic snap on modifiers and light weight is a godsend. (have you ever had to work with a heavy battery powered speedlight? I did for 20 years. They were exhausting and dumb. Wrestling around one of those for 4-8 hours can wear you out like a day at the gym.) THAT is one of the main things I like about the AD100 and AD200, that they are light, powerful, as well as quick and easy to use, and having a good size system of accessories is a big plus too!

Last years mandatory stop in business caused by the pandemic made me realise I must photograph more of what I love the most and that is portraits. Revamped my website and started orienting marketing for portraits. My studio is turning into a Godox studio, step by step, and I love it! Efficient portability as I have never seen before! Godox AD100Pro would be perfect for use with small apertures and moody soft light the way I love a good portrait. By the way, an excellent first episode full of good info and inspiration! Congrats!

I would use the soft light setup from 2:53 because it looks natural and is very flattering. Skin blemishes can be exaggerated with hard light setups but this soft light setup very much reduces the need for retouching. This was a great episode, featuring a lot of very useful information and good ideas in a very short video. More of this, please!

Hi Sarah, Thanks for the presentation, interesting to learn how to use multiple lights to give completely different results. However I don’t have an external artificial light source. My use for one Godox AD 100 Pro would be to balance natural light while capturing close up and macro images of flowers and plants. Need to get a remote trigger like yours. Thanks again.

I love both styles, and for portraits it´s great to be free to adapt the mood for the model and look of the day. So, I would love to create both dark dramatic and soft looks with the AD100, because it´s so flexible and power that we can go both ways so easily and fast! And, with the help of the AK-R1 kit and some modifiers, I can easily navigate throught diferent looks, expanding my creativity and pushing my limits as creator. By the way, great video and beautiful looks! Looking forward to try these setups with the AD100!

It's hard to decide between a dark dramatic look or a soft look, it depends so much on the subject but if the subject suited the look I would go dark and dramatic, reminiscent of the classic portraits of George Hurrell. Those portraits always captured my imagination and drove me to push the boundaries of what I do with lighting.

I like shooting on location, preferably in moody or rough places where I can add smoke for texture and ambience. I would use the AD100pro to backlite the smoke to replace my other brand speedlight that lacks TTL and the ability to be remotely adjusted. These are much appreciated feature when lighting fast dissipating and unpredictable smoke.
