Sandi Hester, you are the cure. I have been binge watching since i first stumbled upon one of your videos, i think it was less than a week ago. My eyes are getting blurry, it is getting late…just one more? Lol. Where have you been all these years? Not just binge watching…i took your advice and started painting in my “too precious” sketch book, doing swatches, something i pretty much never did. You convinced me on so many things, i see now the errors in my thinking. No wonder i was floundering. I feel as though i have seen the light. Today i disappeared for hours, i stole away and (well, almost) finished a little acrylic that had been sitting sketched out, for literally YEARS. In my mind i couldn’t start because i thought i would just wreck it. Sure enough, it is not perfect, but i learned enough to graduate to a bigger canvas tomorrow, with a way more confidence because every mistake i made was a stepping stone. Plus who cares? As you demonstrated, i can always paint over, scrape, or revisit. The only perfect paintings are the ones i never start, that just go round and round in my head. Ha ha. So, i want to thank you for being such a wonderful and inspiring artist and teacher, and for generously sharing your bloopers, and your wild successes too. Your unrelenting enthusiasm is contagious. You are very good at getting the point home, it is as though you are bound and determined to make us understand, through countless examples. Some days lately, there isn’t a lot to laugh about, but you are just so funny, i love your antics, you make me giggle. You are so good at all this, i will never miss a video. I haven’t watched everything yet, i am savouring them, working my way through, soaking everything up. I told my friend about you and said i drove into town, and bought a brush like yours…and it wasn’t even on sale! Ha ha. I even knocked over a bottle of paint and also wrecked my housecoat slopping varnish. Now that is progress! I just know my other artist buddies are gonna love you too. Take good care. Char

This might be my favorite video of yours so far. I love how you show us. The little snippets. The gentle music. Something about the editing and the B-Roll.

Love the painted shirt! i started drawing/painting my own t-shirts/sweatshirts this year because I found fashion for almost 50 year old women to be so so depressing - I just don't want to wear bright florals! So I've been putting my own creatures on things. It's so much fun and I love wearing them. Really love the neutral background on this and the lovely marks!

Sandi Hester how to edit video already uploaded: KZbin - creator studio beta, click video on left, select video, on left click editor and video pops up you can trim or add blur to it. Hope that helps!

SO many lovely points and takeaways from this vlog... from practical painting tips (your gentle shake miming made me laugh) to podcasts and books to check out to fun craft ideas. I'm so glad I discovered your channel ♡ I'm not anywhere near ready to try oils yet but I have tucked away these tips in my brain for whenever I do. Question -- was it just regular house paint primer you used on the wooden board to prime at 11:50? And also, I definitely notice and appreciate the time you take to edit--for varied tempo and timing, and adding pop up commentary captions that show off your personality even more! Thanks for those extra details. Happy birthday and I hope you have a nice trip. I'll look forward to the next vlog!

I think you have made top of the list best comments so far :)! First, don't be intimidated by oil painting - it's not nearly as big of a deal as people make it! Wonder if a basic to oil painting would be a good video for beginners or people thinking of doing oils? Let me know your thoughts. Yes, just regular house primer for the board - did that just so it would soak up any moister in the air and warp. AND lastly - THANK YOU for noticing the editing - I spend for forever on editing!!! That's why it's been a little disheartening that I have so few viewers for the amount of work I do. I've been thinking to myself that maybe the videos aren't all that good even though I put a ton of time, thought, and effort into them - so this comment MEANS A LOT!!!!!!!

@@sandihester I would appreciate some tips on getting started in oils. I think done in your style would be fun. As for KZbin--it seems that even with good content you have to do all sorts of things to get through the algorithm. I personally enjoy your channel, your studio vlog has all the elements of what I like in art videos, so I hope you'll keep on.🙂 (And when your channel DOES blow up and you have too many nice comments to reply back to all individually, you will look back at this time with nostalgia 😉)
@sandihester
@sandihester 5 жыл бұрын
@@AWonderfulSheep Yes, the algorithm is not something I follow - I just do my best to make good content (or at least as good as I can with the equipment I have) and IF it does every blow up I would be sad to not be able to reply to everyone.

Have you ever used beeswax as a finish on any of your work? Do you think it would work on oil pastels/acrylics/etc?

No I haven’t. I k ow for certain it wouldn’t work on oil pastels.
