The RVD talk around 1:35:00. Van Dam was incredible around this time. That segment with Steve, always delivering in matches with Jericho, Christian, whoever. One of my top 10 favorite TV matches of all time was Rob Van Dam vs Eddie Guerrero for the Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match.

This is one of the best episodes yet I think. Love the in-depth discussion of them trying to decide which of the four to put the belt on. Conrad's love at the suggestion that Bruce and Steph had a thing was priceless too! The 'Power of the Punch' was of the most enjoyable heel traits at the time. Regal was one of the best heels of this era IMO.

Pritchard talking about angle being green and slowing down, that is 100% something that the fans or people that don't know anything about wrestling a lot of times would never think about. I helped teach at the wwn school down south and it's the only company that works directly with WWE. don't get me wrong I'm nobody I've just worked the Indies for about 13 years on and off but that is definitely a huge huge huge thing that no one thinks about. You could have to green guys or girls and two veterans do the same exact sequence but it looks completely different because of footwork and facial expressions and timing and pacing. that's one of the hardest things when you are coming in. Is the little shit like that. I can teach a 10 year old child how to do a head scissor takedown or a DDT. That's the easy part. But the timing and psychology of wrestling is the most difficult hands down.that's why I tell the students to watch guys like Randy Orton. A lot of fans don't realize how amazing Randy Orton is. Every single thing he does makes sense. His footwork and everything is phenomenal. but guys like Arn Anderson and Ric flair and Shawn Michaels and Ricky steamboat etc are brilliant. And it's stuff that people would never ever in a million years think of.

The creative after WM 17 sucked balls. I think 2001 they got over just by having a lot of great talent (Austin, Angle, Jericho) on the roster. Rock starting to become an actor and Triple H's injury coupled with a horrible Invasion angle led to business dropping. Bringing in the NWO was a polarizing move. That year from 2001 to 2002 saw some weird stuff.

I thought Jericho's debut was handled well - it didn't feed him to the Rock. He came out swinging, interrupting the Rock and largely holding his own, then in subsequent nights he bested the Undertaker on the mic, showing how good he really was - you have to look at his debut in context of what he did in the subsequent weeks. The only misstep I think was his first match being against Road Dogg, who just wasn't on Jericho's level in terms of promo acumen but was booked to "best" him. In the first weeks they had him right up there with the big dogs, being a chickenshit heel amongst the bigguns is still being amongst the bigguns.
@josephscott6388
@josephscott6388 6 жыл бұрын
reason they jump started invasion angle is, right after Austin's ill-fated heel turn, the rock went off to start his Hollywood career, HHH went off to start his quad-tearing career, undertaker was rocking the denim on denim crime, and suddenly the main event scene was not that impressive.

The U2 "Beautiful Day" WWF desire video for Triple H is probably a top 2 promo package in my personal favorites as I have rewatched many, many times over the years since it first aired over the last few weeks of 2001 leading in to January 7th, 2002 where he made his return live on Raw in MSG which is one my personal top 2 moment/segment of all time as well. I want to know why Austin doesn't get the credit he deserves for putting HHH over in the 3 Stages of Hell match. It solidified Trips legacy, in my opinion. Out of all the matches, all the names he beat, HHH is the only man that can say he beat Stone Cold Steve Austin in 3 Stages of Hell, that makes him a bad motherfucker...anything HHH did afterwards was meaningless gimmicky shit. He just did it for a long time lol. Still doing it lol.

Angle should have won the Undisputed title. 1. No disrespect to Jericho, his run would have been well deserved in the future, but Angle was way more of a proven top guy at the time having won the WWE title from both Rock and Austin previously along with winning the survivor series match a month earlier. 2. With HHH returning, the whole thing would have worked brilliantly as Angle and Stephanie had the affair storyline in 2000, making it seem like a 2 year pay off. Also a HHH/ Angle main event would have been a lot more memorable.
@josephdelledonne2098
@josephdelledonne2098 6 жыл бұрын
That was great, I certainly didn't see Jericho winning it, I for sure thought it would have been one of the 3 that have done it before. I think it was long overdue, Jericho was a semi main event guy for a long time, and Angle who came later had like 3 reigns. Nothing against Angle because he's great, but I would have liked to see Jericho on that level.

I never liked Taker in the title scene... I liked it how they used Taker in the 1990's he was always involved in these DEEP bitter feuds. People taking his Urn. Other creatures trying to one up him. When wrestling was still REAL (F- YOU CLIQ) Taker wouldn't NEED a belt to get respect. Taker faced Yokozuna in 1994 at the royal rumble in a casket match for the WWF title. If you go back and watch Takers promos were so good he didn't even have to mention winning the title as being the goal. The goal was to destroy yokozuna and you really believed that he wanted to and was allowed to do so within a certain line of rules being the WWF wrestling rules that I thought existed when I was 10. I miss those days. I miss kayfabe.
@fuzzydunlop7928

@@forrestking8140 The internet did more to kill kayfabe than the four chucklefucks did - btw Kayfabe is still alive and well, it's just cloaked in internet misinformation rather than audience ignorance now. There are a few guys still living the gimmick, and every promotion from New Japan and the WWE to the little indie operating out of a bingo hall in North Jersey use the internet to misdirect in their storylines, it's so fucking easy if there's so much information out there, nobody can keep track of the truth.

The invasion would have worked if they would have waited for flair,hogan,Goldberg, etc. The stars such as DDP and booker t not being over in the wwe in the past definitely hurt the angle and not having any real heat because of the WWE talents not wanting to put over the invasion characters strongly really hurt the momentum right from the start. It could have worked and been very successful if they would have just waited for the wcw contracts to expire.

Terry Brown DDP’s pop was amazing and he was well over. Some reason wwf decided to bury him. Taker put Van Damme over but nailed DDP. Disgraceful. They should of always done Page v Austin at Summerslam. God knows why they didn’t even though Angle v Austin was absolute gold.

Yeah they did it all wrong. Honestly they should have kept the buy private. Kept business the same for a while but Vince gets profits. Doubt there were any but he could have built the wcw stars he needed and then had a jump ship angle. Talk with the main guys about invasion angle. Eventually reveal who bought wcw. Anything would have been better than what they did. I legit stopped watching the day of. Jim cornette booked an entire fantasy invasion. Its on a DVD but the wrestlemania alone(on KZbin) would have been amazing.

2001 was a crazy year in the WWF and this pay per view showed it. Also, Triple H's injury took too long to heal and Vince panicked. Lets be real of course Jericho had people not thinking he would be champion and have a great run with it. I thought Jericho handed it well. What people thought was going to be a one month reign with Rock getting revenge at Royal Rumble turned into a 4 month run. JR and King did a damn good job on the commentary team. Nobody saw Jericho vs Austin for both the WWF and WCW Championships.

After listening to 2 hours of this, I started watching Vengence 2001; I have to disagree with Bruce (and Vince). The Hardy split would have been awesome. They could have done the Royal Rumble where the winner (Jeff Hardy) gets a World title shot At Wrestlemania, and the second to the last one (last man eliminated, Matt Hardy) gets an IC title shot at WM. Then do a blow off match between Matt and Jeff.

I think everyone would've picked Rock, Austin, and Angle, to be the new Undisputed WWF Championship. So, by doing that, and knowing that they would pick them 3, that's probably why they went with Jericho, and Jericho was due for a World Title Shot. ECW and WCW weren't going to give him a title shot, so the WWF gave him the title shot. I always liked Jericho, so it shocked me when he won it.

i just saw the ppv and the venue and crowd was really bad for this. crowd very silent and unintrested for many times during the ppv. the whole placement of seats look weired cus it made the place look pretty empty aswell. And i cant belive its the least bought ppv of 2001. but i guess they are explaining it here in the show with ppl unable to get the ppv with their tv provider. Really sad when this is supposed to be the crecendo of 2001 with the undisputed title and the top 4 guys batteling for it. It was really strange to see Y2J get jobbed more or less to this moment. Yes he won the heavyweight champioship at No Mercy vs the rock to finally ramp up his value which had stagnated as the IC champion. But then he lost it a couple of weeks later....and he lost very cleanly to stone cold before this ppv. I wish they could have made him look stronger than forcing him to win with all these shenanigans involved. And the fact that Jericho never have won the main title in wwe as a face is beyond me. him leaving in 2017 makes everything so understandable after watching his "crowning moment". Sure, he has said himself that he prefered his persona better in 2008-2010, but he won as a heel at that time again and its hard to compare when u have angle, stone cold and the rock in the mix and he being the main guy.

About Stone Cold wouldnt run that is something that has bothered me when a wrestle switches from face to heel they stop being the heroic never back down fight all the odds bad ass and suddenly lose their balls or grapefruits which doesnt really make sense because they are still the same person

We didn't want to see Austin as heel & that whole invasion angle went stale quick for me. It was like a breath of fresh air when HHH returned. Thought he may do a run-in sometime during this event.

We need a 2019 gravy match 😂😂😂 WCW redue was a failure when they wouldn’t bring in the big stars from the start. No one wants to see WCW mid card guys vs WWF stars. Goldberg vs Austin pays for itself in one huge PPV. Same for Hogan vs Austin which is the biggest match that never happened.

Y2J didn't live up to being the first Undisputed Champ. I'm sure it's a learning curve and the booking wasn't great , but Jericho got much better in time , this was more of a swerve to be a swerve , not the correct choice.
@fuzzydunlop7928
@fuzzydunlop7928 5 жыл бұрын
It was best for booking - eventually the belts are ending up on HHH, why would you put it on the two guys with one foot each out the door? And Angle is injured. Jericho was a chickenshit heel, those are the most maneuverable. I'm glad Jericho can put it on his resume, regardless the circumstances.
