Great video, Jon. I've lived in polos for the last 30 years, and with the new fabric blends that are available today, a man can be comfy and stylish everyday. let's raise the bar on men' style of older men. I'm 70, and I haven't given up yet.

I understand if you live in a less humid area though, try some of these in Central Florida between March and October...even comfortable, well fitting linen lord have mercy you sweat to death outside for even a handful of minutes. Then you are a sweaty mess. I love fall and winter in FL, lets us wear just about any of these things comfortably. Our hot months make you really think about what you are going to wear. Even casual outfits need to be thought through carefully so the sweat doesn't go on full display.

Funny anecdote. Had a meeting and dressed well and wore a sports coat. On the way home, stopped at my favourite pub for a beer. When I walked in, there was already a beverage at my favourite table. I appologized to the server for violating the "dress code" of the pub. She smiled and told me I was very handsome. In the immortal words of the late Stan Lee: "Nuff said". LOL.

Dressing up or dressing Nice does so much. I'm a social worker so mostly work with people who have not been doing great on many areas so i don't dress too nice. However my coworkers know that i do like to dress up and once there was a case with a wealthy family and so they wanted me to go there dressed like i do besides work. It helped to make some connection with the parents based on clothing alone.

Great video john. I've never understood the argument that you can't be stylish and comfortable. I wear a shirt, tie, sports coat, chinos & dress shoes at least 5 days of the week and I never feel uncomfortable, quite the reverse. It seems to be a weak excuse made by immature guys who don't want to dress like a grown-up.

I base what I wear largely on what I’m doing at the time. I wear a T-shirt and jeans (or shorts) if I’m doing chores around the house, yard work, or working on one of my cars. If I’m out with my wife, I wear a shirt with a collar and either nice jeans or khakis. I dress up a little more if we’re going to a nice restaurant. It’s all situational. I have to say I frequently see couples out on dates, and women are usually dressed nicer than men. Many men tend to dress like boys or just plain lazy.

For most of my life I always dressed as casually as I could get away with. I made a conscious decision a couple years ago to boost my style, which is what led me to your channel (and others). I have followed the path you’re talking about here. Yes, I have started dressing better for going out or for special occasions, but my day-to-day wardrobe has changed by simply raising the bar a little bit: I haven’t worn jeans for ages, replacing them with chinos; t-shirts replaced by polos or henleys, sneakers replaced by chukka boots. I feel great about my new wardrobe and there has been absolutely no change in comfort level.

Greats points John. As a former Temeculan-ite ?, now living in humid Florida, I have to learn to be comfortable and cool. As one of your viewers mentioned, linen, and other fabrics work well down here, but you really can't be outside long in the 5 or 6 months of swampiness. I've learned through your channel, that you don't have to trade comfort while sacrificing style any longer...Thanks again for the great video.

Nowadays there are so many different fabrics and technologies that evolves menswear. Today I tried a MTM dress shirt for the first time and it felt so lightweigh, fitted very well and was very comfortable. I'm into the journey of dressing better for 5 years now and regularly make mistakes with some items but I learn from them and adapt accordingly. It takes time and effort, but I love every part of it.

John, a while back you said that T-shirts are the lowest style value top you can wear, and that still holds true!!! Men need to wear a damn collar!!! Polo or regular shirt, but wear a damn collar! Children wear T-shirts (Disney Land/World excused!) or men wear them to bed. Collars!!!! Fine video John, as always!

Think you're confusing formality with style. A collared shirt does not make you more stylish it merely ups the formality of your outfit. Someone wearing a good quality, well fit t shirt put together with nice pants, shoes and accessories can be a hundred times more stylish than the guy wearing a dress shirt and slacks if they have no sense of style. Throw a nice crew neck sweater overtop or sport coat, still no collared shirt and you'll be stylish as hell. Go back and rewatch most of the fashion advice videos on the channel and actually pay attention this time. Stylish men keep a much more open mind than you clearly do about what they can and can't wear.

John, been thinking about this .. classic menswear has had a bad rap for being "uncomfortable" But as you say, it's not like that anymore. i have a sport coat that feels like a pajamas... the new materials are easy to wear. And maybe some guys have bought cheap clothes that actually were uncomfortable. or maybe they weren't fitted right. I think guys use it as an alibi to dress sloppily.

John is right: the concept that comfort and style are adversarial is a fallacy. Clothes that fit well and are of high quality fabrics/material should be comfortable. With regards to shoes, I prefer going either with sneakers or choosing comfortable dress shoes; and not a hybrid. Dress shoes need not be any less comfortable if they are made well, fit correctly and use high quality materials.

You think it comes down to fit and comfort, I agree, but I think for most overweight men, they prefer comfort and how they think they look thinner in t shirts. For most bigger men, they don't like tucking in their shirts, which are not comfortable for most men, and they feel that it does not hide the weight. But if most bigger men watch your channel, they would learn that there is another way to dress in style,fit, and comfort. Untuchkit Shirt

Finding a dress shirt that fits some bodies properly is difficult/expensive compared to a short sleeve tee. If you have a tummy and find a long sleeve shirt that accommodates your weight it will also have sleeves so long they go past your fingers.
@karlr7502 ай бұрын
A tailor can shorten the sleeves so they fit. While prices vary, that costs $20 at my tailor. I'm hard to fit because I'm thin. (If the neck and shoulders fit correctly, the sleeves are too short ... and those are issues that a tailor *can't* fix.) So I shopped around until I found a few brands that fit. Now I buy those brands. In order to keep the expense down, buy fewer but better shirts. I can get by with 4-5 button up shirts, provided that I buy ones that are white, solid blue, or solid gray.
@40OverFashion2 ай бұрын
That’s where a tailor comes in. :)
@benpuffer78912 ай бұрын
Understood, but thats why some men just wear t shirts. Less hassle. Id have to assume the majority of men only go to a tailor maybe twice in their lives.
@karlr7502 ай бұрын
@@benpuffer7891 , If those men are choosing t-shirts over well-fitting clothes, because the t-shirts are "less hassle," then it's easy to see why they're less stylish than the men who will put in the minimal effort and pay the modest cost to ensure they have dressier options that fit well. We all know that it's easy to look more stylish than most men with minimal effort. That's largely because most men don't bother with a tailor ... or take any of the other little steps that would set them apart (in a good way).

TRUTH
@RobertSneek2 ай бұрын
Is it just me or are too many of these comments mistaking the formality of an outfit with style? Several of the comments here are going with the premise that you can't be stylish wearing a t-shirt, or that stylish means collared shirt, slacks and a sport coat. Some have made the comment that "grown" men don't wear t-shirts. Did you actually watch this or any other of the videos on this channel?
@karlr7502 ай бұрын
Formality and style aren't completely separate. One of the easy ways to look more stylish is to dress at a *slightly* higher level of formality than the other men at a given location/event. (If someone *overdoes* this, however, it looks like they dressed for the wrong event.) If all the men around me are wearing graphic t-shirts, cargo shorts, and flip-flops, then I can dress "slightly more formally" by wearing a solid colored t-shirt. And that situation happens fairly often where I live. In other parts of the country, however, people dress a bit better than they do here, so a solid t-shirt probably won't be formal enough. So I think the observations are driven by personal (often regional) experience, not a universal guideline.
@RobertSneek2 ай бұрын
@karlr750 It's semantics, but I would argue that going with a nice plain t-shirt, flat front shorts or khakis, and a pair of loafers or sneakers definitely more stylish but not necessarily more formal. And I agree, location does influence. I live in a small town, primarily farming, blue collar, and most often it's not hard to set yourself apart by simply wearing well fitting, good quality basics and passing on the graphic t, worn out jeans and work boots. I'm also an hour away from both Montreal and Ottawa and find the same rules apply in the big cities. A little effort goes a long way. And to be clear, by no means denigrating jeans and workboots. I make my living wearing them (officer on a tug and barge), but away from work, I like to step things up even if just a little.

With all due respect to you and the sponsor, this footwear is simply not stylish. I’m pretty sure in previous content you’ve criticised the brogue/sneaker hybrid for it trying to do two things at once, neither to any success. I really enjoy your content but as some constructive criticism, I’d be cautious with endemic advertising. I think where you’ve previously had meal prep companies and BetterHelp etc. this has been fine, and even some objective fashion accessories, but this starts to cross a line though I feel.
