I just finished answering the survey. What surprised me the most is how the littlest change in the colour of the clothing or the background made some models look happier than their counterparts with colour being the only difference. Some models even looked gloomy and sick. Did anyone else notice this? Or just me?

@aff77141 Жыл бұрын
For sure! If you've never gone DEEP in artist color theory, it goes over this exact principle. This is how palettes function in artwork, if you have a pink hued themed piece and need something to look green, using a peach or yellow color will make your brain go "That's closer to green. Must be grass. Color correcting in 3,2,1", or for something that's monochrome green, cooler greens will look blue and warmer ones will look yellow

There’s a whole other set of undertones that’s missing: Olive!! Olive undertones tend more green/less pinky and don’t really fall into strictly warm, neutral, or cool, because there’s just too much red in all of them. There are warmer/cooler/neutral olives, but just going by warm/neutral/cool when doing something like looking for foundation for example will make finding an accurate match basically impossible for someone with olive undertones (speaking from experience lol). It also affects what colors look best on you similarly to the other three main undertones!! (For example, olivey-greens and purples are colors that make me feel extra nice because they compliment the green in my skin!)

My mom still has Color Me Beautiful. Glad you guys got the whole 'this has been around a whiiile' out first. The biggest problem with these 'seasons' or whatever types of color matching ideas is it oversimplifies, like most 'tools' and 'hacks'. The second is it doesn't take into account that people's coloring can change over the years. Like, my mom wore tons of orange (and made it work) in the 70s and 80s, but now the same shades look terrible on her.
@kitty_s23456 Жыл бұрын
Hi. According to some color analysts, our colors may change as we get older - usually it becomes cooler/ softer/ more muted. Orange is a warm color (no cool counterpart) and only ppl with warm undertones can wear it. Only "springs" can wear bright orange. If your mom can't wear bright orange anymore, maybe she can wear softer versions of orange - like peach or coral, or muted & darker versions, like rust or copper orange (for autumns).

But probably involving a weave of artificial spider silk done ala Kevlar, and graphene (or another carbon ring based material) incorporated in some way. Likely even more. But you'd also need to get around distress failure from high velocity impacts on woven armors, and I don't see that happening without a material with plasticity (it can move/creep back into it's original, tightly-woven, shape with some amount of energy expenditure). Set 4 of the survey was crazy long!! And it seemed like many of the sets were getting repeated.... but there was probably some small shift in one of the colors. I also think my preferences on colors played a big part in which I chose, as opposed to which colors looked best with their coloring.

Shocked how in the survey the background colour effected my judgement as much as the shirt colours plus some I just didn’t like ether so I just flipped a coin for those ones

Important components to not forget about are subjective taste, lighting and cultural/ceremonial clothing. If you like to match colours, fabrics or whatever a certain way, don't let any internet skin tone colour matching test stop you from dressing the way you want to. If the test gives you a result that only goes for a certain kind of lighting, in another lighting both you and the clothes will look very different so perhaps we shouldn't obsess about colour matching too much and just go for clothes that could work in a large range of situations. If you are in a situation where the colours are limited or already predetermined for a cultural occasion or because the garment is cultural and only comes in a few colours then the test results can be thrown in the bin since you don't have much of a choice. Examples where the options of colours are restricted (not saying you can't break the norm just that most won't so if the test doesn't matter here why should it matter when we can choose more freely): Funeral - black everything, wedding - white brides gown and bridesmaids have matching colour to each other but not white, many religious, tribal and folk dresses and clothing have a very specific colour or exact combination of colours and patterns.

I personally don't care about fashionable stuff on me! I just wear what I'm comfortable in, because the only part that truly matters is that I'm comfortable in it

2:25 "what if my signature red jacket is the wrong shade of red for me". The color analysist who analysed my colors said that we tend to like wear clothes which are in right color for us. So if you love your jacket and feel confident when you are wearing it, it's your color!

I always thought I must be a cool toned black person because my phone cameras always made me look dehydrated and gray. But after doing the 3 tests, I find that I am actually warm toned. My phone cameras lied to me.

I just took the survey, and first *was the background color changes intentional because it definitely skewed my results*. Second, I was taking it next to my mom and it was actually very enlightening. She and I have often disagreed on what clothes do and don’t flatter me (and she’s not great at explaining herself) but one of the prompts revealed that she dislikes the presence of yellow in the skin tone, so she avoids colors that accentuate it. I’ve always thought gold colors in the skin are beautiful, so I wouldn’t mind clothes that bring out the yellow in my skin, but my mother revealed that her history in Medicine makes her find any yellow in the skin as ill looking

My mom is the same way!! I have the exact same skin tone as her but all the colours I love to accentuate in our skin tone like olive green and yellow she says makes us look like we have jaundice

I hope after they do the Basics series that they do a “breaking basics” series where they talk about how these rules are meant to be broken and how to go about breaking the rules to find your own true personal style that you feel the most comfortable in not what society is saying you should wear

I'm neutral but more on the warm side of neutral, but I do have a olive skin tone so it was expected 😅 And since I have a olive skin tone I can pull off both light and dark I also have golden brown hair so literally everything about my appearance is neutral 🤣 I'm more of a Spring/Winter

So I’ve luckily been leaning into my true colors by accident, and I am similarly toned to Safiya. I actually am goth similarly to she is and we are both winters. I am proven that even more by the tests in this video. I think it really depends on the person though. While Safiya and I are both winters and we believe we like winter cooler on us, there are winters out there I’m sure that would hate winter colors in themselves and prefer different season colors.

I think you made this series in the perfect part of my life. I recently came out as trans femme and I have no idea how to style myself. I've always just worn comfy-but-without-holes-and-stains but I wanna look cute and pretty and maybe if I feel up to it hot. This Style Theory Basics series is gonna help so much. ❤❤❤

Idk if you have discovered slip shorts yet, but they're a great way to dress cute but feel comfy. They're silky shorts that go under your dress/skirt and help smooth lines and prevent thigh chafing. They make wearing dresses more comfortable. You do have to be careful purchasing them though because a lot claim to not have compression when they really do. Unless you want the compression, of course. And if they don't work for you, a lot of women wear bike shorts or yoga shorts instead.

I guess i get what all the fuss is about now
