00:00 Intro
00:42 Blockout
03:31 Modelling the leaves
11:37 Sculpting the tree in Zbrush
24:37 Fixing and unwrapping the tree
27:55 Arranging the leaves on the card
32:10 Baking and texturing the leaf card
41:12 Cutting out the cards
44:30 Texturing the tree
55:50 Building the tree
1:05:20 Setting the vertex normal direction
1:07:52 Setting the tree and materials up in UE4

Though we use Maya, the tools are very basic and these steps can be done in any 3D modeling program.

This is the kind of tutorials I'm looking for the most, straight to the workflow. I kinda knew every trick you used in Maya but still so refreshing to see how other people uses the same tools for something pretty profesional and gameready. Really inspiring for someone like me that started using 3D just as a tool for concept art but slowly realising I can just jump as a 3D modeler aswell!

Thanks, i'm glad you found it interesting, there is never one way to do anything and always something new. I also watch videos on topics i'm familiar with for the same reason. Cheers!

I’d love to see your approach on how take a small scene or asset and re-texture and re-light it in UE5, so it fits multiple different moods (spooky, friendly, horror etc…). This tutorial was incredibly helpful, thank you 😄

UE5 is still on my list of things to get around to. But i'm sure I will make something for it soon. Relighting student work is something i enjoy, so maybe! Thanks for the kind words.

Thank you so much for the tutorial! Btw, did you sculpt the rock that you put the tree on as well? Would love to see your process of creating stylized rocks as well :3

Hi, thanks for the comment, and yes It is part of a much larger island scene, I will probably post a video of the scene soon, though it isn't a tutorial. If people want specific information from it then i might do some, rocks are a good one!

@@RobotArmy3D Yeah I think that would be great cause rocks are exceptionally tricky to sculpt (for me specifically but I guess that others might experience same issues)

Dude youre tutorials are great i want to ask how can i improve myself about realistic texturing? I usually modelling fine but i cant texturing well i know substance painter but i cant give realistic look for my models.
@RobotArmy3D
@RobotArmy3D 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Realistic texturing is mainly about trying to study the material you are trying to recreate, breaking it down into layers and building its history, how its aged, etc. I think my next tutorial might be a realistic game prop, so look out for that 👍

Did you make the tree painting at the beggining of the video yourself? I oftentimes wonder how much 2d skills do 3d artists have..Just cause I have some of both, but I'm more confident in my 3d skills.
@RobotArmy3D

2d skills is always a bonus, it will more quickly help you plan somthing out and generally shrink the barrier between mind and hand. Though I have met many great 3d artist that can't draw!. I have always enjoyed 2d art but I'm no professional concept artist. I did sketch out this concept though to help me visualise what I wanted.

Hmmm...I'm stuck at the sculpting stage. I can't seem to get a trunk that I'd be happy with. Not sure how to make sense of the wrapping bark. Scrapped a bunch of sculpts already, looking for references and all. Maybe it's because of the nature of the tool I'm using (Blender). Maybe not.

Don't get disheartened by false starts. You will have them even with 20 years experience as a professional. Perseverance is key, try to come at it from a different angle, do some more research and planning, lay it out in stages and don't move forward until you have somthing that works. Persevere and the payoff will be all the more satisfying. And remember even when your finished - the things you have learned means the second, third, fourth..etc.. time you make this type of asset will continue to improve. Its like grinding in a game for exp 😂
