Being a beginner in any software can be a frustrating experience. I was completely on my own when I started learning Substance Painter, and I made a ton of mistakes that could have been easily avoided with a bit of guidance.
I know there are a ton of people out there like me with no one to guide them, so in this video, I’m going to give you 4 No Bullsh*t tips to help you rapidly improve your skills.

Im currently working on a personal library of materials and trim sheets. I gotta admit, its so much fun. It wasnt terribly difficult to learn. I essentially dissected a default smart material to grasp what was going on and tried creating my own. I made concrete since it wasnt in the default materials!

5:08 Something I've found about Unreal is that, if you're packing maps into RGB channels (like the usual Occlusion+Roughness+Metallic), by default the final texture will import in sRGB color space which can significantly alter the way a material will understand each grayscale map, and it will look off compared to the Substance viewport. You can check this option off in the texture details after you import it, and that will usually produce more accurate results

I see so many people worrying about not remembering at 100% how they build each one of their smart materials.. it's OKAY not to remember every single detail! I feel like it's a bit like recipes, you only need to remember how to read your recipe(aka nodes) and what are the mains ingredients...once you practice it a few times it will come naturally to you(as when making a soup or something haha) and you'll surprise yourself trying to improve it without following a tutorial

My first time trying Substance Painter, I ran into issues that masking definitely could've helped with. This all seems like it could be very helpful. A concern of mine was price, because things like this are usually hundreds, if not nearing $1K, but I'm pretty surprised that it's as cheap as it is. While I don't have the time at the moment, I have full intention to take the courses and try this out

I know Adobe acquired Substance and I've heard mixed things :c Which version is the best? Are older ones even still available legally? If not I'll just use the newest one, of course, just wondering! No idea about the older versions availability - but all versions are quite stable, i'd recommend making sure to be on the latest version

I think so - Mixer is gaining popularity (as well as some cool new features) so hopefully the software will gain more traction over the next few months/year. I typically tend to make videos about what's currently popular so I can definitely see myself doing some mixer stuff in the future.

Do you have any plan to put out Substance Designer centric tutorials? Or is the focus on this channel on Painter? You talk a lot in this video about 'making your own materials', and that often best done in designer, especially if your focus is to become a texture/material artist. I know your course is focused on Painter, but is there any thoughts of expanding?

I'd love to have some more focus on designer! But its really time consuming. I'm working on hiring a few writers to help out with the video creation process & a new editor so that should give me more time to focus on designer & other fun stuff :)
