Remember that nobody knew how the game worked when it was brand new. You didnt often see teams picking Heroes based on win chance, but instead on who they liked most

i'd like to add to this a huge part of why role queue sucked in ow1 and had large disparity between DPS/healers/tanks, lack of options. u pick tank and u had to go shield defense or dive, or roadhog nothing else, yet blizzard is too fuckin braindead that they just see numbers and be like "heh we solved role queue problem by making it 5v5" not realizing fact that people play who they like so putting cool characters in any role incentives more players to play that role

@@solsensei6939 I'd like to see them rather than a only one of each hero and a forced 2-2-2 if they only limited the total number of tanks to no more than 3 and maybe no more than 2 or 3 of the same hero, that would solve a lot of the issue while still retaining that chaotic energy of release overwatch. Obviously, just as a game mode, at least to start, but I think that could legitimately balance Classic enough for a non oppressive casual play. Maybe not to a competitive level, but it could be something if they wish to make this a more long-term game mode.

Classic has made me come back to overwatch after 2 years of not touching the game, and i cant wait until they put in the hero limits tomorrow because im gonna be honest, its a little rough rn with no limits. But i do really hope that classic stays as a permanent gamemode

My absolute favorite part about this is just seeing how much faster the time to kill was in OW1. Obviously there are no burst healers in this version, HOWEVER, you can actually punish people in OW1 because mobility and sustain was much more scarce. This is unlike OW2 where it takes 2k dmg to kill one target. Also tanks being able to die is wayyy more fun and interactive rather than shooting a brick wall of a tank in OW2 (with 700 health, dmg mitigation, shield, etc). They can take things from both games and create something truly fun and unique. Overall I really enjoyed this test and am looking forward to the last week where we get a more recent version of OW1.

@@DreadedLad88 not always, or at least not for very long, I'm sure it will die down a bit eventually, but it seems people are enjoying it. If people weren't having fun (or there weren't suitably good rewards to incentivize it anyway) it would quickly die off like a lot of the new game modes the team has put out over the years that haven't hit Also, I don't get why some of you think my original statement implied balance or that it was good or better than live. I just implied the numbers seem higher than in the normal quick play I have been seeing.

As someone who hasn’t played OW2 or even OW in a while, I am impressed that blizzard really brought back that day 1 feel. They even found players that stand at the enemy spawn door.

Same. Mainly because I was a symmetra main and we FINALLY got her back. Even though I love sym 2.0, 1.0 was what made me love her in the first place and it felt good playing her in the play style I loved in her.

No limits is rough, but this is the absolute most fun ive had in overwatch since overwatch 2, the very best part of it is: stuff finally dies. in overwatch 2 stuff just doesn't die, theres so many get out of jail freecards, so much healing, and nothing is killable, being able to actually kill someone based off of skill is so refreshing and it makes me enjoy the game a 100x more no more suzu, lamp, lifegrip, all these dumb abilities take away from the core game

How about friking suzu and lamp that are literally on a short cooldown? hahah Maan, I love this mode, you cant just GO and expect not to die or be saved by the op AF support. Launch version is not what gave this game the GOTY. The game has grown for the better, it's fast, it's fun, with tons of fluidity. People don't have fun in the game not because of gameplay, it still is one the best gameplays out there; but because they are a bunch of toxic tryhards that want everyone else to be as miserable as them. You are either the toxic one, or let the toxic players bring you down, and you take the game extremely seriously

I'd argue the start of the downfall was with Ana and specifically her nade. To this day, Anti-nade is one of the worst abilities in the game. It caused power creep, forced counterswapping and led to ridiculous abilities like Kiriko's Suzu. It wasn't AS bad in 6v6 since a tank could just take it for the team, but in 5v5, it hurts a lot.

Game feels great with so little healing. Maybe the heal passive to kick in so you don't have to wait for healthpacks. But it's so cool that things actually die. Seeing 30-40 elims is cool as opposed to the 10-20 elims in live.

Im a massive fan of the limited heals. having to rely on tanks for survival instead of the heals is much better. In my experience heals are for a small amount of sustain if any in fights and only really show themselves after a fight so you dont have to find a healthpack.

I quit this game a long time ago and was astounded to see how terrible the game has gotten, everything hits like a wet noodle and nobody dies. Seeing how much more consequence everything had at launch reminds me of the amount of TF2 inspiration this game had as someone who still plays that game.

I was on favor of healing passive but after playing this, Just no. I don't want it anymore. Without the passive the game is better. You have to be more careful or you are done. I like that.

I get where you are coming from, but you get Rez fairly quickly - so you wait for an opportunity to Rez a bunch of people at once, but the downside is that you could be sitting on Rez for so long that in the long run it often makes more sense to use Res more frequently then to miss a lot of opportunities waiting for that 4+ big Res on a point where everyone is together that will be game-changing.

First off, loading the game and hearing that old school music instantly took me back to a time of wonder. In 2016 I had never seen anything like Overwatch. The nostalgia was so real I seriously almost got teary eyed. So much has happened in the world and in my personal life since OW launched. I love that they did this. To see how far the game has come since then is amazing and, yes, a lot of the QoL changes were absolutely necessary.

I feel like 6v6 allowed for teams to still be in the fight even if it’s a 5v6. I’ve noticed 5v5, the second it becomes 4v5 you can almost back on losing that battle

Yeah going back to launch overwatch has really solidified my opinion that supports and too much healing killed the game as time went on. Yes heroes were a bit broken in ways and I miss lots of QOL things, but things actually die, there is attrition through damage and characters have windows of vulnerability. Then I have a game of 5v5, have sojourn in my face with no fear because any damage I do to her is instantly healed by an impossible to kill mercy (despite her stupid ult she was rightly more vulnerable in classic) then next game our whole team gets stomped by a mauga smurf. Horrendous. Also delete widow.

Back in the day I thought the tech and aim was a lot easier than my main games (TF2 and Loadout) and had a time to kill that was on the long side (which is saying something since they aready had a longer ttk than their contemporaries.) It's insane to see how much worse it's gotten over the years since I quit. Insanely long ttk, the game devolved into two clumps where no one strays from the hive, role lock means I lost my place as a player who would flex between dps and tank heroes as the team needed, it's been rough to see.

1. Healing was actually a strategic/scarce resource; 2. Burst heals actually wasn't a thing, aka all supports = viable; 3. Positioning actually mattered; 4. Map control was actually a thing; 5. Tanks actually had their defined roles, not as jack of all trades; 6. DPS were actually a huge threat; 7. Solo-carry was much more possible.. ; 8 .. while individual mistakes were actually less punishing. Idk. -- Change the whacko no limits to 1 hero limit -- Restore the best UI parts like post-game cards while keeping the good ones like the new scoreboard -- Remove the atrocious monetization (yeah not gonna happen) -- Keep what makes heroes fluid, like Genji's 1.0 movement while adding modern solutions to clunky stuff, like Hog's heals movement, new Lucio's ride and D.Va's charge DM -- Fix clearly broken stuff like hook 1.0 and FTH -- Fix the insane ult charge rate -- Restore new tech like hook turn and NOT add Ana and stuff that resulted in power/healing/CC creep (yeah, I like Sombra, but she kick-started the CC creep) -- Do not, do NOT, DO NOT try to balance it around GM. Sorry, GM - there isn't even an OWL now and GM is 0.something% of players. It was fun and popular when it was balanced around casual fun. You got a winner.

All they have done is cater to new players at the expense of the old. Im loving this experience and the nostalgia so much I actively want to get on and play, I hope the other OGs feel the same.

my classic experience is: the game feels clunky(in movement and abilities) relative to the current game but more fun/chaotic and more team oriented. Plus i really like how tanks feel to play against in the classic mode.

Im having more fun with classic than ive had in years. Yeah its rough, like no role lock, but matches are much more enjoyable when its not as fast paced and every character had a solid and unique kit that fit them perfectly.

My best mate and I are having a blast. 2 tanks is soooo nice. I'm so happy the old voice lines are back too and the music! I miss the voting cards aswell. I hope they keep the old voice lines on top of the new ones as the old ones were so good! I really hope 6v6 stays permanently after all these tests. Pure nostalgia! I miss the old days. Just hope they add some lore in the game and bring back cinematics aswell!

I've been having fun with it, some things were definitely remembered like scatter arrow, and some thing forgotten like the agonizingly slow speed of Symmetra's alt fire and the fact that it pierced shields. Kinda hoping they either keep it in the arcade or at least cycle it back in every so often.

I have had a blast playing it and abusing all the broken heroes again and doing all the old meme strats. The nostalgia is real, but a part of me still wants to try a competitive version of this (with 1 hero limit) despite how unbalanced it is, I want to play some games where everyone is playing to win and we don't have 5 dps. And that fact I still feel that way about an 8 year old game is a testament to how good this game was and why it became successful in the first place.

As someone who was there on launch day, I have been having a blast, I've enjoyed every game I've played, and I wager I am already a good 100+ games deep, it's so much fun. I actually like how squishy you are, how the healing isn't near infinite. One of the things that really turned me off from later OW and OW2 was how the healing was immense, fights took ages, and killing one person would take half a year, it was boring. OW as it was on launch feels both faster and slower, heros are slower, but the rounds feel faster, it feels like more is happening because the kill feed is having a fit, it's amazing. And every stupid OP thing you can do has an answer, even in no limits, which I missed a lot.

Classic Overwatch is amazing, the game is not a 200 mph sweat-fest where your class means literally zero. It actually requires teamwork and thought to get through a bastion/rein or to keep your abilities ready for when the Mercy full rez comes through… now its half a step away from being COD with a Monkey.

I honestly prefer not having self healing and having things acutally die, so people have actually have to be careful with how they play and face the consequences of their actions. Overwatch was meant to be a 6v6 game. Still miss Ana, though...

When Stylosa said "you don't want ow without role queue" and I'm like... I played role queue for years and have been playing open queue now again for months. Open queue is far better. So yes, I do want ow without role queue.

I don't know why there's so much hate for Open Queue. It's actively the better game mode in current OW2 5v5. Even in QP, role queue just feels bad overall unless you're T500.

The classic overwatch experience for me was waiting for the character models to load in because my laptop was rubbish. Ended up playing a ton of Zen because i could at least see the orbs if nothing else, still my favourite character.

Still better than 5v5 and we got the old maps back and don’t have to play any of the new trash clash, flash and push modes. I think it’s a massive improvement Oh and I don’t get a ban for an unintentional dc that’s probably my favorite part.

I have been having a blast with it! It definitely feels clunky compared to what we have now but man is it refreshing to actually be able to duel a tank or be able to use an ultimate without it being cancelled by 7 different immortality abilities. And running different team comps with my friends that’s just not possible in OW2 is so much fun.

Even with all it's flaws and "clunkiness" OW1 is much more fun than OW2. You can really feel how much impact you as a player can do and it also makes you more thoughtful about your enemy as they can also impact game by A LOT! I love how certain clunky moments in game, like healing on Roadhog while standing still motivates you to ALWAYS LOOK for a best position instead of just casually going in without any fear or thought. Many modern competitive games (and it's not only OW2) love hero/character designs that do EVERYTHING AT ONCE without any huge disadvantages on the other hand of their design. And for me it's exactly what makes modern competitive gaming boring.

Yeah i feel like most people don't know about this because they interpreted the blog differently than what they meant and that info got spread around. Seems like the 3 weeks is just patch 1.0 and later on maybe next season or season after they might do moth meta and so on.

I like hero limits, but I don' tlike Role Queue. Role queue definitely gave a more consistent experience, but for me it just was also consistently less fun. Overwatch is messy and a little chaotic, and I think tha'ts a good thing. The objective based game play (control points, fixed spawn points and such) adds order. But for team comps? I say let players go a little crazy. I play open queue these days whenever possible, but it's kinda janky because the tanks just aren't tuned for it, even with the HP reduction.

I'm kind of scared that they are trying to sabotage the 6v6 test. They decided to show us what was some of the worst metas of OW1 (Launch, Moth meta, Goats meta). .... And with the lack of communication to the average player, it feels like they are trying to make people dislike 6v6 before the test even start.

I got my friend who didn't play overwatch 2 OR overwatch 1, and we kind of just kept going back and forth between the modes. Overwatch 1 feels noticeably clunkier and the balance is terrible, but it has that charm that even a brand new player can enjoy like how unique the characters are and how differently their gameplay feels, but overwatch 2 has the fluidity and balance, as well as the most uniform gameplay of role queue that he also enjoyed (He did not enjoy the 4 hanzo games or the 5 widow games). He also really liked playing Moira and the new tanks, which the classic version didn't have. One thing we both noticed, though, was that ow2 doesn't have the high highs classic has, while at the same time having much more depressive low-energy kind of lows. Like having a bad DPS player on OW2 made the game feel like we were kind of just waiting the game to be playable, constantly waiting for a respawn or someone to get even remotely low enough to take advantage of, whereas in classic you can make plays on your own time whenever you want due to how quickly things die, especially since so many games are 4-5 DPS per team. One thing I noticed in particular is that having a frustrating game on OW2 made me not want to do another and just hop off for something else, but in OW1 even if we got straight rolled and the game was super quick, I still had quite a bit of fun and was down to keep grinding.

I started playing in season 1 of OW1. Even though yeah, many heroes are cracked, trash or untued, classic is super fun. There's a simplicity to it that is refreshing. Its super fun and 6v6 is definitely the way to go... Also, its fun actually being able to get kills again lol

I had more fun playing classic last night with my 5 other friends than I've had since OW2 released. All of us have stopped playing due to what the game has become, we'll probably all uninstall again once the mode is lost.

I remember thinking, i'd never play non role queue again, thought this would be a horrible taste of how 6v6 will run in the real test, but man, it plays great. Apparently OW is pretty good if there aren't supports constantly making targets immortal for free.

As someone who dropped overwatch when overwatch 2 came out, I decided to come back to try this classic mode. It felt so amazing. I was playing supports and it felt like all my reflexes from years ago came back. My buddies and I won almost every match we played yesterday. I really miss the first overwatch and if they just adjust it a bit to a more recent OW1 patch, I think every thing would be perfect.

I love that health packs aren't cosmetic for like 90% of the cast. In the current Overwatch, the only ones using health packs are flankers and ball, and that's pretty much it. In Overwatch Classic, everyone has to use health packs. It doesn't matter if you're a tank, support, or DPS. At some point, you're going to need to grab a health pack, and people can punish you if you're not fighting around them. That's how the game should be. The healing is waaaay to high in current Overwatch. With that said, I agree that I would like to see a classic version like this but with modern-day maps, no 2CP, that shit can fucking stay dead, 6v6 role queue, and some small tweaks to bring in the quality of life things that we've grown used to over the years. Also, don't bring back classic Bastion again. God, is he cancer. 😖

I cannot believe THAT was the game that started it all and won game of the year. It's actually terrible. I go back and play classic versions of games I like a lot less than OW (old Halo's on MCC, old CODs) and they're better than the new ones, but OW has improved so much and the classic version is by far inferior. Every hero is horribly unbalanced and no-limits translates to 4 torbs, a zen, and a hog on my team every time.

I loved No-Limits Comp back then, I conviced my whole team to play Soldier 76 on Volskia, and we won the match in 2mins, we could all run, heal ourselves and could all have aimbot. we all were laughing and having fun in Comp and saying we're all Soldiers now. that was my most fun Comp match ever

Overwhelmingly wrong. I love launch overwatch, I am having the time of my life here, I love having the options to try weirder team comps, the option to do 6 soldiers or whatever alone is more fun than anything added in Overwatch 2, and when someone goes a hero I'm bad against, I can just actually swap to counter them instead of being stuck on a role with no options or hoping my teammate swaps off my character. I am the "there's nobody" you mention in this video, and this gamemode is doing numbers because I'm not alone. I would be playing more Overwatch and enjoying it more if they had never updated it once since 2016, and my biggest complaints are features from 2016 that aren't here like the end cards.

I'd like to point out that we will NOT be going to other metas in this 3 weeks. The devs confirmed that in an interview with spilo. They said that they would like to bring this event back in the future exploring the other metas, but this one is only classic.
