I'm writing this in case you are wondering if these videos actually help people. I imagine you upload them in the hope that they do. I can testify that for me, your videos have been transformational. It's been years since I've had the motivation to get through proper hard sessions of any kind. I also need you to know that your training commitment, which is kind of subtext in these videos, is what gets me out of bed at 0430 for those runs I need to do. If i can make one (hopefilly) helpful comment in return, it's that a funny thing about these events is that your race time is already decided before you get to the start line. You'll know what your body can do and how to make it do it, and now it's just the formality of basically pressing go. Can't wait for your race report!

I love this comment so much. I should print it out and frame it. For some many reasons. I’m glad the videos are useful to you. 4:30am is hardcore. You should be super proud of that. That’s motivational in itself. And you’re right about the race. It will take care of itself. I just need to turn up with the right mindset. Such a good reminder. Thank you!

I've loved watching your videos since stumbling across The Global Runner a few months ago. You provide me with some serious inspiration (as a 53-year-old who's still clinging onto sub-3 for dear life). Solid training block - it's there for the taking. I hope to watch you go and get it. Good luck.

That’s a nice thing to say! Thank you. But I bet you work just as hard as I do. My best friend ran 2:09 back in 1999 and for years I did the exact same training as him. But for whatever reason, he was just (way!) better than me. I don’t think I tried less than he did though.

Hey i wish you all the best on your marathon race! You are definitely getting ready for it! I like your approach not to compare ourselves to previous workouts especially that ones they are not important. What matters is how you get ready for the race and you are ready to go! ( i need to get ready for mine in one month 😁)

Fantastic sessions! (MP) You really knocked those out perfectly. And good work fitting in the recovery, that’s something I struggle with and pay the price for almost immediately! 😂 At first I was curious why you’d do a race this close to race day but if you’re tapering volume, it’s actually great to keep the intensity and legs alive. Good work, dude!
@global-runner3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment! I always appreciate yours - they’re so supportive! It’ll be a local 10k two weeks out so you make a good point about racing too close to the main event but I think it’ll be enough time to recover (if I do it properly!) and like you say it’ll be a decent effort - my plan was to run 12 miles with 6 fast anyway so 10k is not too far removed from that! The only risk is if I race poorly and that messes with my head! :)

Thanks for your comment! On the shoes I’ll do a comparison but it’s interesting. I prefer the ride of the Sky but I prefer the lock down of the edge. Both are great shoes though. The edge is slightly heavier than the Sky funnily enough.

Found this for your Reference. The Montreal Marathon course has a few notable steep sections: Kilometers 6-8: An incline begins around kilometer 6, reaching a peak at kilometer 8. Kilometers 16-18: Another climb starts around kilometer 16, with a steeper section near kilometer 18. Kilometers 30-32: A significant climb occurs between kilometers 30 and 32. Now we enjoy the Taper. Like you I also don't like it, but it is needed. We'll see you at the start line.
@shawnbedard59823 ай бұрын
I forgot to add this: The notable downhill sections on the Montreal Marathon course are: Kilometers 8-10: A descent begins after the incline, continuing until around kilometer 10. Kilometers 18-20: A moderate downhill follows the climb near kilometer 18. Kilometers 32-34: Another descent occurs after the climb at kilometer 32, continuing to around kilometer 34.

Thanks for this! This is really helpful! When I signed up it looked like a pretty flat course but I knew there were some inclines. I quite like an easy incline or two. Mixes things up a bit! Good luck with your race! If you see me on the start line, come and say hi!

Great to see you did well on the big workout. You're a big inspiration, showing such paces can still be run at 50! I'm curious for your thoughts about your race pace strategy. E.g. will you try a negative split and practice the strategy in the 10K race? Or will you go more by feel and circumstances?
@global-runner3 ай бұрын
Thank you! Great question. I’ll probably do a video on this but I’ll probably have an idea of what I want but go by feel on the day. A negative split is always the goal but there’s not a ton of rope to play with. So if you fall off the pace, it can be a problem.
@mikes57643 ай бұрын
Thanks for the answer! Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm often changing my plan for the training on the day of the training myself, because of how I feel that day. Usually I have to downgrade 😭. I probably should rest more and make my trainings a bit less intense.

Great channel. Just started watching. One thing am curious about is your fueling strategy- both race day and during these workouts. Don’t see any mention to gels, liquids, anything. Do you fuel beforehand? Any fasted running? The different approaches around fueling seem to be evolving - e.g. in ultra running the recent Leadville 100 mountain race winner took 500 calories / 120g carbs per hour for 15 hours - all gels! He said this allowed him to maintain z2/z3 the whole time with no bonk. Thanks for sharing and good luck!
@global-runner3 ай бұрын
Thank you! And thanks for the watching! I’ll do a video on my race strategy but I have to admit I’m not good at this. Definite room for improvement. On the marathon pace run I had one maurten gel and just a few sips of water. Definitely not enough. I do like fasted runs - I did a video on that a few weeks ago. Feel free to check it out!
