the fact that the infotainment is so basic is one of the appealing things about this car, on top of all of the obvious selling points. its like, anything more advanced would be a huge distraction, wouldn't it? and prone to being a huge pain in the ass when it gets really cold

Called me an OCD but the only thing that made me choose the premium over the limited was alcantara seats and door inserts. Like mentioned, hard to maintain, will look like crap over the years and its not even a real alcantara material but a look alike. Personally the cloth seat design looks much better in BRZ and GR86. Wish there’s an individual option for heated seats, dynamic headlights, etc

You explained what brz meant, you said the word primacy correctly, and you made a princess and the pea reference. Lots of other good info and opinions too, but that stuff put it into the top tier of brz reviews imo

I have the old brz and I still love it. And it’s all stock, when I say it’s all stock, nothing has been changed since I bought it from the dealer other than the battery

Amazing little cars. I love that my daily driver is a small, affordable, fairly quick and fun to drive car, but can still get around 30 mpg on the highway. I prefer a manual any day but for some people I do think the automatic makes a lot more sense on the second generation with all the safety features and more low end torque so you don't have to wind it out to have any power. Overall there's nothing but improvements here in my eyes

Nice! That's the exact trim level and color as what I have on order from my local dealership. Gave them a check a couple months ago, and it should arrive in March :) During the wait I've learned just about everything you can about this vehicle. The BRZ suspension is less tail-happy than the GR86, and the BRZ enjoys slightly better ultimate grip at the limits while at the same time being slightly more compliant in the GT mode. Also there is an odd paper-fabric membrane that can be removed from the air intake, just past the main filter; doing so adds up to 10HP depending on where you are in the rev range. Finally, the EPA estimates are a joke - the manual transmission routinely gets in the low 30s in the MPG department, basically the same as the auto. Looking forward to having this as a 2nd vehicle!

The odd paper fabric you are talking about is carbon filter, it's due to emission regulations. Engineering explained made a video about it few years ago for Crosstrek. I own one, it's fun car, you would enjoy it.

Nice review. I bought a silver 2016 BRZ Limited Auto with 13,800 miles on it in October 2022. It's my daily driver and will never see any track time. I might add some basic mods to it in the future but for now it remains bone stock (other than deleting the engine sound tube that piped sound into the passenger compartment). The Minnesota winter has been interesting and fun in this RWD vehicle. I can safely say that I'll never regret the purchase and I'm looking forward to many fun years with this car.

You don't get blindspot monitoring, steering headlights, heated seats or puddle lights on the base model (premium on subaru). Keep that in mind, even if you prefer cloth seats unfortunately. The autos has a lot of the safety stuff, but I do wish mines had Blindspot and moving headlights, the beams are so short because of the height of the car. P.S. She meant Miata is only convertible in the price range. The Club model is a good more $.

Everything they said about you was because you drove a 4-5 passengers car, but in your driving you are found mostly driving alone. Being scared about higher fuel economy, might skyrocket twice. Thing to notice is speed gauge - like they have it in games. Slight difference, but with a BRZ they seem to be northerners.

I drove big rear wheel drive (one wheel peel) big cars with no positraction and Flintstones type ancient snow tires from 1975 to 1985 between Rochester and Syracuse NY. I could probably drive it in snow better than most, and at 63 I have a lot of time off from work to avoid the most dangerous driving. Not sure if I am ready for another real wheel drive, but it does make more sense where I live now in KY, on average not very snowy, and since the temperatures are often closer to 31 degrees more ice on the roads here. Look into the Eyesight safety system causing the windshield to be thinner and cracking easier from a tiny rock.

it’s honestly wild that tedward’s stock 2022 Honda Civic Si can get an avg of 48+ mpg highway with a 200hp turbo I4; whilst the 2022 Subaru BRZ/Toyota GR86 struggles to get 25 mpg highway from their 225hp NA H4. it justs puts into perspective the the huge difference in engine technology mastery between Honda vs Subaru. if Honda ever wanted to build a $30,000 RWD 2 door sports coupe like a Subaru BRZ/Toyota GR86 fighter, then Honda probably would use the Civic’s interior parts, and easily develop a turbo I4 that hits 225hp and at minimum 33+mpg for their rwd coupe sports car.
@horsepowerandtalk1033 Жыл бұрын
What does Honda thinks it gets? What were the conditions of that run, does it do it every day? Their hybrid struggles to get that MPG.

Honestly, if they came out with a BAZ (all-wheel drive version of the BRZ); I'd buy that in a heart-beat and easily be content for the next 10+ years of my Life! Not even joking. Another KZbin content creator made a video about how a done deal on a BRZ fell through because of a rude salesman. At the end of the video, he pointed out the reality of the BRZ. It's a rear-wheel drive toy meant for sunny days and track time. He already owns a more pragmatic car, and his wife owns a very pragmatic SUV.
@hardchemist2 жыл бұрын
Agree, its utility as an only vehicle is lacking. That said, this guy did a pretty good job reviewing how the BRZ behaves in the winter with snow tires. Just came out a few days ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKDJg36LqZl2mLM
@dauntlessasmr79102 жыл бұрын
@@hardchemist Yup, I've seen that video and am familiar with that content creator on KZbin. Thing is, he's an extremely experienced driver. He knows how to correct properly if the vehicle even starts to slip a bit. That level of expertise does not translate to the average driver. It's like a professional baker with 20+ years experience creating wedding cakes, making a video showing how _easy_ it is to create a wedding cake. Then, someone with basic baking skills at best; tries it. We all know the cake they create is going to be a disaster! Might even end up burning down the kitchen! Yeah, average drivers are better off with Front-wheel drive or All-wheel drive cars on a good set of All Season tires. Which is what they're likely to have on their daily drivers all year long. Yes, Winter tires help. But honestly, there are going to be times when the safest driving option is to just stay home and wait out the weather.

Plenty of people put snow tires on the BRZ and drive it year round.

@@patricklinkous Plenty of people also skid, slide, and crash while doing so. Let's get blatantly honest... I wouldn't care. But I have a family that depends on me to take care of them, pay the bills, get things done for them. I'm not going to screw around with snow tires on a small, compact, light-weight rear-wheel drive sports toy. If I was single and only responsible for myself, yeah; I wouldn't care. Made it home? Great! Crashed and never coming home again? Meh, not a big deal.
