@@Jeremy-ff3jm Make sure it’s been well maintained otherwise significant problems do start to rise. My dad has a 2.5 with 160k miles on it and it runs perfect after doing about 120 miles everyday up and down a steep mountain dual carriageway everyday for about 12 years. All the problems he’s had was a noisy wheel bearing at 120k, broken o2 sensors cause the cruise control light to flash and makes you unable to use it although if u fill the car up it fixes itself for a few days, and a failed power steering pump after the car was sat for 3 months. He’s owned it since new btw. Of course there’s been other maintenance stuff such as bushings, timing belts, and a service every 6k miles though the service pattern changes for other countries, some being every 10k miles. I have a 2006 3.0 R . It has had the recommended maintenance since new including the 5 year Cam pulley tensioners, serpentine belt, fluid changes (engine, 2 diffs, gearbox, coolant, brakes) and auto transmission filter and in tank fuel filters. Just passed 162 000km. It is definitely an expensive car to maintain as per schedule and at a Subaru Specialist Shop. Not to mention the need to have similar tyres (make, model, thread, etc) on all 4 corners for the AWD system not to break or heat up the diff when it corrects for the variance. The repairs required so far: Worst was a broken pulley that is part of the serpentine belt set-up. Power steering pump rebuild as preventative maintenance and then it broke 2 years later and was rebuilt again by the garage at no charge. Was warned to monitor the plastic radiator top for leaks after 10 years. Sure enough at 12 years the Radiator plastic neck that connects to the rubber hose cracked. The front CV's were replaced once but the boots were replaced 3-4 times. I have replaced the Brake disks and shocks as preventative maintenance around the 10 year mark. Recently had all the suspension bushings and rubbers replaced. Just had the original Bilstein struts checked and serviced by the agents and will be putting them back onto the car. I have only used 2 sets of brake pads in this time. I may have replaced the battery 4 times. Windscreen wiper misaligned and started wiping off the screen and has to be reinstalled. Some oil leaks came up and were dealt with at 16 years. The O2 Sensor acted up around 16 years and 2 bypass units were fitted. The cats will be removed in the coming months. What is broke currently: Aircon diverter motor, plastic roller cover over front cupholders, rear lock does not react to central locking only manual. For several years the alarm did not work and no one could figure out the problem. It started working again on its own. Carpet next to the dead pedal has worn a hole through. BUT I LOVE THIS CAR! Its different, not easily recognised, shape seems to be universal, if that makes sense. The interior has really stood the test of time. 17 years and no tears or fading of the leather. What I was disappointed about: Fuel Consumption can be a nightmare when daily driven in traffic. The Automatic cannot be easily modified /tuned for power. The Subaru Rally Team could only recommend a WRX STi exhaust as a reasonable mod for power on the 3.0. Not many mechanics or subaru specialists, and even then they are into the 4 cyclinder cars which are quite different from the Flat 6. Currently in the process of purchasing a 3.0R-B manual version for modification. Looking at Decat and Turbo. this will need extensive fabrication work and special attention to the oil sump and pump to ensure proper lubrication and tuning. Also see Mighty Car Mods channel on youtube for ideas since Australia has quite a car culture which has embraced the Subaru Flat 6's. Alternatives I considered with similar power and lower maintenance costs are the Honda Accord and Lexus IS vehicles. From Johannesburg, South Africa.

Check your PCV valve system and clean it, the dealer didnt inspect mine at service and inspection and it killed the 2.0L liberty piston 1 no compression

I have a 2006 Legacy 2.0R BP5 bought it at 155k km and now i have 190k and the big problems started arround 180k km Secondary air valves fail often and they cost arround 700 euros now my throttle body sensor is broken and you can only buy the hole throttle body assembly and that costs 1200 euro in Germany. I think it is time to get rid of the car since the parts are insanely expensive and problems continue to appear.

Because if you have subaru you need to do proper service always. Spark plugs. Oil.dyf oil.filters.engine oil every 3 months or 3k miles.

yeah everything leak on this cars and the chek engine good luck to make it desapear. excelent driving in winter but tats it. this was my dream car when i was 17 and played videogames. Now it's nightmaire to maintain. unless you have your on garage and time to work on it by yourself.

My Engine blew up at 40,000 miles and the(2006 Subaru legacy) car was maintained by Subaru. I'll never by another. I have a remanufactured engine installed. I gave the cat to my son.

@@ianmoone9036 Dont worry he was either unlucky or had incredibly badly maintained car. From little he said i imagine he got very early 2.0 Diesel which had manufacturing defects before 2007-8, and failed early. If you got a petrol version you have nothing to worry about, if you have a diesel and want to keep one...replace it with a motor from newer Diesel subaru from after 2011(XV or Forester), or if you cant afford it very late models that have lowest compression and are most refined, they are very reliable when kept well, petrols are just reliable even when abused.

@@ianmoone9036 Nice~ 2.5i sometimes might have head gasket issues but if it was kept well it shouldnt be much of a problem. If it every rears its head you can fix it pretty mug forever by using better head gaskets from turbo/wrx 2.5L EJ :)

my 3.0r, 2006, 190tkm : the rear is hanging, little oil leak who spit oil on the right katalysator, the radiator cap broke, clogged sewage pipe from the panoramic roof, the paint on the bumper chips, the leather on the Momo steering wheel is ugly, i hear the timing chains in the motor when cold, metal clip spring for bulbs in headlike broke off, reading device says mixture is mixed with too much air so unfortunaly the motor sign light up and ESP and the cruise singnal is blinking the whole time. AND ALL this in one year :( Ich würde raten einen riesen bogen um das auto zu machen!
