Visited my aunt and cousins on Christmas couple years ago and snow froze overnight. I had absolutely zero trouble starting my '00 Outback and didn't look back as I drove away. And no, I didn't drift my car in snow... had my granny in car. Turns out my cousins' Grand Caravan was completely stuck and they couldn't get moving... All hail the mighty Subaru!

I have a 2005 Legacy 2.5 GT wagon in limited trim and live in Michigan. I do this all the time. The wiper blade de-icer is a cool feature too. Believe it or not, my car hit 100,000 miles just this year. Well cared for.

Even my Kia Ceed would manage that, and has done so several times last 7 years. Especially so 2017-2018 when we had A LOT of snow (175cm). It's why my front spoiler is a bit flappy now. It's over all not a very good car in winter though. Builds snow in the "Wheel house" which churns into the rim and you'll notice it when you get into the higher speed roads. I used to have tooth fillers until that.

I've done the same with mine in deeper snow than that. Subarus go better in snow than Jeeps and 4WD pick-up trucks - but KNOW THIS: AWD and 4WD make ZERO difference above 35 mph, it's just pure physics.

@jamesg82462 жыл бұрын
@@costaet I can tell you all of the Subaru specialists I know say these engines definitely benefit from a reasonable warm up. Not like let it run 10 minutes to come to full operating temp... but 2-3 minutes to get heat into the heads and get oil up to a reasonable temp is good.

The textbook says the most amount of damage is caused in the first 5-10 seconds after startup and with how Subarus eat oil and these temperatures I'm sure he's adding at least a couple quarts every few thousand miles
@carnage50x2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesg8246 I let my car warm up for 15-20mins before I leave. Not because I care about my car. It's because I want the cabin to be nice and toasty when I get in. I go out and start my car early then head back inside and continue my morning things.

@@carnage50x I just hit the remote start 5 minutes before it's time to go. The Legacy automatically turns on all the defrosters on windshield, rear and side mirrors and leave the seat warmers on... good to go.
