The Subaru ended up going to a shop to get an engine but they can't seem to find one

Could be the belt tensioner that’s bad it’s most likely rod knock

Thats rod knock. I assume youre going to want to replace it. Dont take it to any shop or even the dealership. Join local subie groups and ask around for recommended performance shop(cheaper than a dealership) and reputable tuners. These cars are EXTREMELY finicky and really should be worked on my people who do this for a living. Theres many preventative parts you can put on but that goes for many tuner cars. Make sure youre checking your oil ever 2-3 fill ups of gas too. You just need to be mindful about how you drive the vehicle(nothing under 2k rpm while cruising and downshift to go up hills/speeding up) and youll be good.

Thank you for the advice I will pass on the message to my little brother. The vehicle is in a shop they replaced the engine and the engine blew not even 5 miles out the shop and are having a hard time finding an engine. I really appreciate the advice. Thank you.
