What is the purpose of the separate IR system in these keys, in addition to the 315Mhz RF communication? Is this just for programming, or the car uses the IR part in the ignition for start authentication?

Good job! Just a note - usually, when reflowing SMD, the parts self align when solder melts - no need to hold them until solid (for really stubborn parts, a little nudge does the trick).

I was gong to say the sme thing about the part will self align due to the surface tension of the solder.

Amazing work. I tried replacing the battery in my MINI Cooper key. It turned out to be a waste of time. The key had to be cut open to get to the battery. The new battery worked for about four months and then died.

Hello Mario. I also sent you an email about fixing my key. I wasn’t sure if I should just send it in or wait for a response. At this point it’s a spare , was in a bind and had to have my car towed to Mercedes for a new key. I mentioned what you do and they responded they don’t have the time. Lol. If your interested id love to have you try it for a spare key

That's what known good means. Verified to work
