It's an inside trip - the wrestling equivalent of an o uchi gari. Without the gi, this is generally the variation used, as a tighter bind to the leg is often needed. I've only seen it performed by former wrestlers, so its nice to see in high level competition.

I always thought inside trip and ouchi gari were synonymous. Does "inside trip" usually imply going down to one knee (as opposed to ouchi gari which can be either way but is usually done standing)?

​@@MaxLohMusic It's an o uchi gake - gake as in hook (vs gari which is a sweep). However, it's the wrestling equivalent of the gari as that is the dominant version in judo, while the gake version is the dominant version in wrestling.

@@josephgreenslade7525 I believe it is the mechanism rather than shape of leg that matters, so these should probably still be called "gari" because they're reaping/sweeping rather than attaching. That being said they're almost used interchangeably; I think most osoto gari's are gake's but no one says osoto gake

It's basically a really low inside trip. I think it's common for judo, wrestling, sambo.

Probably works best when used by a player that also goes for dropping forward throws to create that misdirection.
