This is my favorite type of chow mein. No one makes "Cantonese" chicken chow mein where I live anymore. Everyone makes lo mein now. It is so disappointing. To grow up with something and then after you're older you can remember the taste and smell but can never have it again is sad. I am going to try and make this. I really appreciate you sharing and I am excited to try it. God bless!

My Cantonese Grandma made them just like this. I love how you have a big spoon and a little spoon for the tablespoon and teaspoon, she did the same thing and it was always wonderful!

First had this in San Francisco in the 70's in some of the places that tourists never would go into. Absolutely my favourite dish of any culture!

Hey Sue, my family used to eat at your restaurant all the the time and we always ordered chicken and broccoli, chicken fried rice, and a side of pan fried noodles. I was sad to hear that you guys retired, but I look forward to trying to recreate my favorite dishes. Thanks for posting and hope you're doing well.
I am going to try this today as I love Cantonese and would love to be able to make it myself x

Very similar to what you get in Aussie Chinese restaurants -- you often get a choice of soft fried or crispy fried noodle base. Soft is my preference.

Your vids are super helpful and well made. Do you know what kind of chow mein noodles were commonly used in America in the 80s-90s? As I recall, they were thicker, more chewy and less yellow in color than the noodles you use in the video.
